Official MLB playoffs thread: 23 hour game exhausts all ball supplies (2 Viewers)

Who wins it all?

Last night TBS crew was talking out of both sides of mouth. They gave Joe West credit for call on field but then were negative that it wasnt overturned. Made no sense.

Anyone that says they can definitively see whether or not it was interference is full of it.  You cant tell from the camera angle so whatever the call was on the field has to count. It could have gone either way with the call on the field but it has to hold up regardless.
Seemed like the fans were reaching over the fence to me, but its not crystal clear. Doesn't make sense to get upset about it either way, it was a tough play to call. :

Mr. Ham said:
What would have been hysterical is if it were a Red Sox fan in full regalia and they interfered purposefully to get the homer converted to an out.
That fan would not have made it out of Houston alive is my guess.

So after looking at all the variables from last night here are my thoughts:

-Country Joe should not have called that fan interference. It wasn’t.

-MLB replay, as flawed as it is, could not fix that

-the Astros had a 5-4 lead and they left a rookie in there to face a red hot left handed hitter when they could have used Sipp or Presley, who dominates lefties. Then James throws a first pitch change up to Bradley, awful.

-Tony Kemp then tries to stretch a single into a double with no one out in the 8th. Astros get a run, should have had two.

-Game ends on a fantastic defensive play

stros had every chance to win, they just didn’t get it done. The fan interference was unfortunate but in the end the better team would have won that game if they were actually better. :2cents:

This umpire has an interesting strike zone for the 2 teams.
I remember the Red Sox and the Yankees in '99. Seemed like every call went their way, including two brutal ones at second on the base paths. Sometimes, that's just how it is.

I mean, Verlander is not going to lose an elimination game, right?

TBS gun is off by a couple of MPH, I’ve watched Price all year and he hasn’t come close to touching 96. He certainly isn’t hitting it on 3 days rest after warming up for two innings last night.

Nice comment. Was wondering the same. If he's really hitting 96 all year, he's unhittable. James at 103 was weird. Chapman, I get that. He's been clocked enough for people to know. James at 102/3? Strange.

Bottom of order coming up...we gotta try to squeeze one more out of Price for a shot at the W, right?

Absolutely no pressure on Price tonight. Weather is not a factor.

I'm trying to convince myself that he might actually pitch well.
hmmm...

Maybe Price should warm in the bullpen 2 innings on the day before he starts. He's pretty sharp tonight.

Really hitting the corners nicely and has the batters guessing at times.

If the Sox can put up two more runs this game is over, Houston is pressing at the plate.
One run lead could actually be safe considering Kimbrel is likely not available tonight.

... or is he after 2 innings last night? I don't know these baseball things.

Any mention of who the Red Sox would use as a closer tonight?

He is available tonight according to Cora

Hard to believe the Tigers had Verlander, Sherzer, Price and Porcello all on the same staff and did not win a playoff series that year. In fact got swept by the Orioles.

Whoa. That's more stunning than the 2013 ALCS. The Tigers had no luck those years.

Also, great play by Price/Moreland to end this inning.

... as they start putting up the plastic drops in the visitors club house.

So much for a champagne celebration at home.  <_<

Fair to say Price out pitched Verlander tonight?

... or is it more that Bos bats are just out hitting Hou?
Sure.  No one would be surprised if you knew the totality of their careers, but Price has been sooooooooo bad in the playoffs that some think it's surprising.  Price is a top ten pitcher over the last decade, I'm not surprised if he outpitches anyone.

very somber commentary by Ron Darling.

Obviously the series isn't going the way he had hoped.

Please tell me the Red Sox hater isn't calling the WS.

I doubt Darling is a Red Sox hater, he owned them during his career.

But no, we'll get common sense hating Joe Buck for the WS.

Cora has had an amazing season and if anything he has stepped it up in the playoffs. Pretty much every move he has made has worked out. Additionally, this was a team under Farrell that seemed to play trying not to lose and now they firmly play to win. He shifted the mindset and changed the culture of essentially the same team. This game isn’t over and I expect the Champs to fight like one over the last couple of innings but Cora is the man.

Just imagine, no one really wanted JD Martinez except Boston.  Took him forever to sign and I think both the D'backs and Phillies made a critical error in not signing him.

Not feeling this whatsoever
"just thought that this game was scripted for Verlander to do what he does with Keikle waiting to pitch game 6 ...

and it took Price to have his best effort in 4 years".

Just comes across as salty to me.

Bossman, Darling is not a Sox hater. Not even close.

Darling is all class as an announcer. Even almost called Devers's home run.
