So, 4* DB Raven Floyd out of Louisiana sent in his LOI to Mississippi this morning. However it turns out, that LOI was forged by his mother. The kid never signed it. That's solid parenting. The kid sent in his official LOI to Texas A&M later in the day.

Big class by Georgia. Crowell, Drew, Rome and QB Christian Lemay all have five star skillsets. A banner recruiting year for Mark Richt coming off a miserable season. Guy is a hell of a recruiter and did a great job keeping most of the top Georgia kids in state.

LOS ANGELES -- Former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain was arrested late Tuesday night on suspicion of selling prescription drugs.

Bail was set at $30,000 for the felony narcotics charge. Mustain has not paid bail and is still in jail, Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Bruce Borihanh said.

The arrest occurred shortly after 8 p.m. PT Tuesday in the San Fernando Valley by the West Valley division of the LAPD, and Mustain was booked at the Van Nuys jail at 10:44 p.m.

Mustain, 22, was preparing for the upcoming NFL draft and had been on campus at USC to work out in the school's athletic facilities late last week. He started only one game in four seasons at USC, a 20-16 home loss to Notre Dame in November, after transferring from Arkansas in 2007.

The Arkansas native was one of the most sought-after high school players in history.

"Mark Richt, coaching 5 Stars down to 2.5 for a decade"

Out of high school, Aaron Rodgers and BJ Raji were both 2 star recruits. Clay Matthews III was a walk on. You never know.

While this is still going to be the best class in Oregon history, I'm sorely disappointed that the Ducks missed out on almost all of the big DT's they were targeting. Granted, they did get DE Ebert (JUCO), but missing on Byers, Simmons, and Heyward stings like a mofo.

While, obviously, getting Thomas tonight would be a huge coup and put Oregon squarely in the Top 6-10 range, I can't help but feel disappointed on the D-Line part.
You should be ecstatic. Your school isn't going to get them all, and has pulled in an impressive haul. With the Mamba looking like he's flipping to Oregon, the Ducks will be at the top of the Pac-12 for awhile.Just imagine you are a UCLA fan today...

UCLA had commitments from (public or "silent") Austin Sefarian-Jenkins (stud TE to UW), Stefan McClure (stud DB to Cal), Christian Heyward (stud DT to USC), Devon Blackmon (stud WR to Oregon), Torian White (great OT prospect to USC), and Cyrus Hobbi (stud OL to USC). In addition, there were some guys close to the "Black Mamba's" recruitment that said UCLA led all along and he was waiting to get admitted. He was told a month ago it wasn't going to happen.

This is probably the worst recruiting class for UCLA since I've followed recruiting. Thankfully, it includes star QB, Brett Hundley, or it would be a disaster. Hopefully, this class of "sleepers" has some unknown gems.

Chris Barnett 4 star TE flip flops from Arkansas to Michigan at the last minute.

:scared:
Barnett was super solid and was even recruiting for the Hogs. Then, he was scared off by 4-star Andrew Peterson
He had a good visit at UM as well, who pushed academics and alumni network. And we have a giant need for TE so he has a strong possibility of playing time immediately and for all four years.Barnett visit reaction

Consider it a pittance for Mallet.

I hear what you're saying. Personally, I detest Neuheisel, so I don't feel back for UCLA (they hired the POS), but I understand where you're coming from. No real ill-will for UCLA, just their coach. That said, sure, getting Mamba would be fantastic, but he doesn't play D-Line

Nick Fairley takes shot at Alabama: Nick_Fairley251 Nick Fairley According to ESPN we just passed #bama in recruiting rankings...We moved up to #2. Dang #bama when it rains it POURS! LOL!

You won't need a D-Line with the Mamba lighting up the scoreboard...Seriously, though, has Oregon really done great in recruiting highly rated DLs in the past? Obviously, they've had some great DLs graduate (such as Ngata and the other DT playing alongside him that I can't recall his name) and Kenny Rowe at DE was relatively highly rated. Still, Oregon has fielded some solid defenses and their D-Line has been pretty good year in and year out.

Oregon seems to do a pretty good job of coaching up the DLs they do get, regardless of how many stars were next to their name coming out of HS.

Did Oregon get any lower-rated DLs to replace the highly-rated ones they missed on?

I thought Peterson was a 3 star? I haven't looked so I don't/didn't know.
Even if he is, Arkansas most likely came out ahead on that deal. Barnett's gonna need his own plane to get to Ann Arbor with all of his baggage.

I started hearing this right about the time he started questioning his initial commitment to Arkansas.

I know they did get Lake Koa-Kaai (who chose them over Nebraska last week), who rivals only has listed as a 3* unranked DE for some ridiculous reason. He has better tape than any other DE prospect I watched (admittedly not that many, but the ones I did look at were all 4* or higher). Dude is going to be a stud and is a great kid to boot. As of the last couple weeks, he and Peat were the 2 guys I wanted Nebraska to get the most, as they closed down the stretch. At least they got one of them (although rivals is saying LK-K hasn't faxed in his LOI yet so maybe he'll have a miraculous last second change of heart).

So supposedly Kiffy signs 30 today, because he feels USC will get some schollys back in the coming years from their NCAA appeal.

Wonder how that is looking?

Travis on UT and Kiffin issues

The NCAA will cite the University of Tennessee's football program with a failure to monitor violation stemming from the short tenure of head coach Lane Kiffin, multiple sources close to the investigation both inside and outside the university told FanHouse.

What's more, in a stunning development that reaches across the country and implicates another of the nation's most-storied programs, the NCAA will also cite current USC head coach Lane Kiffin with a failure to monitor charge

Not the best class but overall I like it. Adding Clowney could make this a great class IMO. We addressed needs all over the field, especially @ linebacker and in the secondary.

The players to watch in this class to me are:

DT KELCY QUARLES

DB SHELDON ROYSTER

LB CEDRICK COOPER

RB SHON CARSON

WR SHAMIER JEFFERY (Alshon's little brother)

QB TANNER MCEVOY

TE JERELL ADAMS

OL BRANDON SHELL

DT PHILLIP DUKES

Still waiting on 2 more. WR Damiere Byrd out of NJ is in Japan for a track meet and Mr. Clowney.

Valentines Day can't get here soon enough.

Rivals is reporting that Kouandjio's HS coach spoke to Cyrus....he's confused but hopes to have a decision tomorrow morning.

There's also an interview up of him and his dad, mother, and sister talking after the airing of his commit...

And, Torian White has flipped back to UCLA and has sent his NLI to UCLA. For those that don't know, he previously committed to UCLA over the summer. Then, he announced today on a national signing day show that he was going to USC (he did the stupid hat routine). And, he's back.

UCLA also landed 4-star WR Devin Lucien, which is nice.

A decent way to close the day.

I thought it was the other way around. They appealed the scholarship limitations, so those are stayed pending the ruling on the appeal. So, they decided to stockpile this class to make up for the huge loss of scholarships in the next three years.

And, while they signed 30, I believe 6 or more have already enrolled and are in school, so they count against last year's class.

I meant in addition to the pending appeal postponing the limits...word from someone (maybe recruits) is that he's telling everyone that a lot of the 30 scholly losses will be given back.

It actually started when he left his original HS in Texas for one of the top programs in the nation and after a couple of months, left that one for yet another. He committed to OU and backed out on that and then committed to Arkansas. That he ended up signing with a third school isn't all that surprising. The dude's been a soap opera well before now.

A guy who works for the SC site on ESPN (wesuc.com) spoke with Hadan and Nikias (sp?), and they've pretty much conceded that SC is going to lose the appeal. Kiffen might be telling recruits something else (and I've heard that he indeed is telling recruits they're going to win), but the SC Athletic Department doesn't think so.ETA: SC requested half of the scholarships back. They've requested in their appeal the sanctions be reduced to 15 total over 3 years.

Interesting...I can't imagine this latest story helping...and the NCAA doesn't have a very forgiving history in these cases.

Oregon got Mamba!!! Still bummed about the DL, but that's a huge, huge get esp. since it weakens USC to boot! :whoosh:

Yes on Quarles. He didn't qualify last year and went to Fork Union Military Academy. He might be the best defensive lineman we sign sans Clowney and he enrolled in January.

Really had no delusions of them being in the top 25.....Hoke salvaged the class nicely. About all I can ask.
That was well done...especially with only 20 sigs.
After losing two 4/5 star guys, I agree. There are rumblings of possibly another sign or two. I think they have the room. However, it's been even MORE interesting to see them jump in to the 2012 stuff already. They have some major depth issues to deal with for 2012

I've said it before...but I don't know how these coaches do it. Saban also called 25 2012 recruits yesterday. If you take a deep breath to enjoy your 2011 success...you immediately fall behind.

Don't these nerds have some system where they take all the websites and declare an overall #1? Who won that?

I think Clayton calculated it...not sure. Need to wait for the last two top 5 players though to really finalize.Either way Jimbo hit a home run.

Actually, the rankings also do not reflect Oregon getting Mamba. It shows them only having 1 5* when he would make it 2 - 5*'s, which is a pretty big jump in points.

But, let's face it, this is just bragging rights for any given school. It doesn't mean #### and no one knows how these kids will pan out.

wait....people brag about this stuff?

When recruits reference how classes are ranked...it does mean something. And I listed the correlation between Rivals #1 classes and BCS Championships earlier.I know it's tough to evaluate kids...but the more resources that get poured into this 'business'...the more accurate it gets.

You're right. 17 year old kids should always stick with their first decision, no matter what.
