My high school hosted a big basketball tournament over the weekend. As a football coach, I worked the parking lot, taking money at the entrance. Big black Jeep pulls up, window goes down and it's Brady Hoke. <_< He graduated from Fairmont, so it wasn't completely weird. My head coach got wind of his presence and asked if I would take in one of our lineman and introduce him to Brady. Alright, never met the guy other than taking his $2 to park, but cool. We walk in, find brady and as soon as we walked up, he turned and said hi. Now the Buckeye fan inside was screaming to rip his head off, but all in all he really was pretty cool. Talked to us for a good 10 minutes. Asked our kid to come to a camp around Father's Day. Real nice guy. Meeting him in person, he's really a lot smaller than he appears on TV. Both in heighth and girth.

Ohio State Football Recruiting: 2014 Prospect Damon Webb Gives Commitment

Damon Webb has committed to Ohio State, according to ElevenWarriors.

Webb is a class of 2014 cornerback prospect who is rated a 4-star by Scout.com, but could also be used to play wide receiver as well.

The six-footer from Detroit also held a Michigan offer, and this has to come as stunning news to Brady Hoke and his staff. This recruitment definitely goes against the norm, with Cass Tech High School usually being a pipeline for the Wolverines.

The Buckeyes had a huge recruiting weekend, also gaining a commitment from Christopher Worley of Glenville High School. Damon Webb joins Marcelys Jones to become the first two class of 2014 prospects to give their commitments to Urban Meyer, who is working toward bringing in a monster class next year.

Still, there is an insane amount of time left for Webb to be recruited by other schools. Over a year remains until he would be able to sign with Ohio State, so nothing is a lock, especially when dealing with high school kids. However, from what it looks like right now, Webb is a Buckeye and a great haul-in by Ohio State.

With Ohio State basketball defeating Michigan and Ohio State football "stealing" Damon Webb from the Wolverines, this weekend has definitely been a win for everyone in Buckeye Nation.

I would think the possibility of one of your players getting a scholarship to a big 10 school would trump your own allegiances.

The Bulldogs have had some momentum of late, but this one will go down to the wire. Seeing him in Tuscaloosa would not come as a shock at all. This is another prediction that could change down the stretch.

Interesting....he was in TTown 2 weeks ago, but with FSU coming up maybe the assumption is that will vault them back up.

Alabama?Not too demean the composite rankings, but ESPN'S joke ratings have UCLA down in the 20's and dropping with each recruit committing. I don't put much stock into their rankings. I know little to nothing about 247, as they are free New kids on the block, but they also have UCLA strangely low. We won't know for a few years good it all pans out, but since 1998, this should be one of UCLA's best classes. If you ignore the glaring miss of QB, that is.Alabama will have a damn good class, though. You should be happy that LSU fans actually thought Willis and Goodman were locks to them, which has been pretty much wrong for the last 5 months.

Not really. There is a large element of luck to it, which is basically how the kid is developed and his intangibles, but the higher rated players still hit at a better rate than the lower rates kids. Or do you think Armstead and Thomas were overrated? I'd take them in a heartbeat.

USC is 8... UCLA closed that program gap pretty quickly. 247 has UCLA at 19....USC at 10. Im now at 247 because I followed the Rivals founder, who seems to be the face of recruiting services and the most innovative. Agree ESPN probably skews the composite....they love the guys who play in their games.

I get that more talent = better odds, but in the end, it's a huge guess. Obviously the two you mentioned are/will be studs. But for every D'Anthony Thomas, there's a whole helluva lot more Cameron Colvin's. That's all I'm saying. As much chest-thumping that goes on (not nec. saying in this thread...although it's most def. not immune to it, but in general), I can't help but laugh.And I use Colvin as an example, since he was a Duck and obviously, I'm more familiar w/ them vs other teams...but every team has a HUGE list of "can't miss" busts.

That's why class rankings are proving to be pretty meaningful.

Miami hired James Coley from FSU as their OC today. That hire should benefit them greatly in the FSU/UM battles leading up to NSD. Coley was the main South Florida recruiter for FSU and was responsible for more than 1/3 of their starters this season.

I really don't think they'll flip Chris Jones, but the way they recruit these days it wouldn't shock me in the least bit. We have Tony Conner coming for an OV this weekend, I think there is still a chance we land him. Mostly true. There are always 2 star guys that suddenly get a couple extra stars upon committing to bama or texas. That said, you have to have the horses to compete. It's imperfect but I'd rather my team have 5 and 4 star rated guys than 3 and 2.

USC is on probation....has a woefully thin roster...and had to hire a guy who had accomplished nothing when Carroll left. Good recruiting is keeping them from missing bowls at this point IMO.Developing the kids definitely means a lot....but you can't win a championship these days without recruiting like Alabama, Florida, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, USC (off probation)....Look at the BCS era results. Even Auburn recruited well...but they show you what happens when you can't develop.

Vanderdoes has played things close to the vest. A couple of the guys I put the most stock in with regard to west coast prospects have said they think it will come down to UCLA and Notre Dame, but that Alabama is the dark horse that cannot be counted out. He's supposedly indicated that he'd rather not leave the west coast, which hopefully bodes well for UCLA. The dude's a stud, so whoever gets him should be ecstatic.The other big names left on UCLA's board are:4 star QB, Assianti Woulard out of Florida - "MVP" of the Elite 11 QB camp. Clemson and UCLA are considered the frontrunners and Trent Dilfer, during Woulard's OV to UCLA last weekend, jumped the gun and claimed he committed to UCLA.4 star DE Kylie Fitts - Former Southern Cal commit. The scout.com guys believe he's going to UCLA.4 star LB Isaac Savaiinaea - Former Stanford commit, comes from the same HS as Manti Te'o (Punahou School). Most think he's going to UCLA. Texas A&M is the other finalist.

Not that it means much, but the Scout.com guys are predicting Eddie Vanderdoes to UCLA. And, Rivals.com's National Recruiting Analyst, Mike Farrell, is also predicting Vanderdoes to sign with UCLA. He thinks Southern Cal and Washington could be out at this point.

Right. Any player or even a class can be a hit or miss. But look at teams' averages over time and it correlates to success.
