Drainage is pretty good as long as it's not consistently raining....however still pretty muddy for a few days. If it's storming, there's definitely some standing water. But I think the "expect the worst/hope for the best" mentatlity will do you right

We went to New Orleans two weeks ago. Unfortunately, we did not make it to Dante's. I tried but couldn't convince the group. Next time.
A few places we really liked:
K Paul's - my second time there. Its just awesome. Great food. The blackened Louisiana drum fish is amazing.
Mother's - great breakfast. The ham was terrific. Well worth the wait.
Mr. B's - really good lunch there one day. Nice place to stop in and the bartender made a nice bourbon milk punch for a hangover.
The Carousel Bar - that was nice to just sit and relax for an hour or so. A good meeting place.
Spotted Cat - First time I've been there. Awesome place with great music. We all really enjoyed that. Funny - as we get older we all much preferred Frenchmen Street to Bourbon Street.
Two places that we were disappointed with:
Redfish Grill - It seems like every restaurant in New Orleans not owned by Tipsy is owned by Brennans. This one was pretty disappointing. I had the BBQ Oysters and redfish. It was ok - nothing special.
Coops - A bunch of people told us about this place. It was fine, but again, nothing special.
Overall it was a great time as always. I look forward to my next trip there - and first to Dante's.

Yeah, I've kind of given up on the dream of renting a car there. One place charged as much as $38 a day for parking, which is pricey even for a FBG.I'm going to check with a few of the bigger hotels to see if they offer a shuttle, but otherwise I'll just pop for cabfare.

Back from Jazzfest Weekend.
FRI night went to Dante's with my GF, my old college roommate (NOLA Native) and another buddy and his GF. Fantastic experience as always. Neil was busy as hell but managed to swing by every so often to hang out. We ate like kings and drank like fishes and our tab was only about 330. Very reasonable dining option considering the caliber of food.
My GF ordered (keep in mind we all ate family style so things were split/shared):
APPS:
Grilled Shrimp (amazing!) & Stone Ground Grits w/ andouille red eye gravy. ($9)
Local hogs head cheese & oxtail ragout w/ radish relish & Mustard Jus ($9 - Former Roommate Ordered)
ENTREES
Mussels with Serrano Ham w/ white wine, roasted potato, and purple hull peas ($14)
Short Ribs & Pork Belly Confit on grilled red pepper polenta cake w/ peper jelly and piri piri sauce AM ($13)
Baked Stuffed Flounder w/ crawfish and andouille stuffing made w/ corn, burdock, mushrooms, roast tomato vinaigrette ($21)
SIDES:
Barqs Root Beer Candied Sweet Potatoes ($5)
Baked Mac & Cheese with Gruyere & Cheddar (SPICY) ($6)
Stellar meal and everyone left very very happy.
AT Jazzfest we were excited about the cuisine as well. Since it was our first meal of the day at 1pm, and we likely wouldn't eat again till much later, we chowed down.
I REALLY wanted to try the Cochon de Lait PoBoy as it is legendary. In addition GF saw a Fried Eggplant with Crawfish Sauce so we opted for that as our first course. Both were Stellar but the PoBoy was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. I’m working on getting the recipe. It’s a Pulled pork (seasoned) with some sot of slaw under it on a great FrenchBread Roll.
We then wanted to try some other options. I grabbed a tray of Boiled Crawfish and a small cup of Crawfish Etouffee, and GF grabbed an assortment that included Fried Green Tomatoes, A Crabmeat Stuffed Fried Shrimp (Amazing), and an Alligator Pie (So so)
Jazzfest was amazing. Monster crowds at the main stage for Galactic / Pearl Jam. LOVE the overall vibe at the festival. Overwhelmingly positive. Some drunk folks but for the most part everyone was able to handle themselves and were very polite. The shops are great and the organization is top shelf.
Got a chance to hang out with Chris Cooley Fan, Sid, Fuller and TigerFan at the fest. We had a great time. Big props to TigerFan for setting the whole thing up, CCF thanks a MILLION for giving us a ride back to the quarter...saved us at least 90 minutes of waiting. Sid.. thanks for letting me try that beer you had (killed the braincell with the name) but it was ####in amazing.

2 and a half hours to go until I am off work and my weekend begins. Driving to New Orleans tomorrow (6 hours or so) and will leave depending on when I can roll out of bed after some Cinco De Mayo shinnanigans tonight. Can't wait to be back.

Not just saying this b/c it's Tipsy's place, but you really need to go to Dante's for dinner. There are 2 places that I tell all my friends who aren't from here that if they need to go to: Dante's Kitchen and Cafe Du Monde.

Going to be in town 6/28-7/2. Staying in the quarter. Looking at dining at Dante's, Arnaud's and maybe Bayona with a lunch at Commanders Palace. Looking for a little insight.

Solid meals there. For a more casual lunch, suggest Johnny's po-boys (in the quarter). The best bloody mary's are in the superdome....but since that not really gonna help, I'll have to turn that over to someone else as I'm not a huge bloody mary guy (other than Saints games). You can find a solid steak anywhere, it's been awhile, but Dickie Brennan's is solid. I've heard good things about John Besh's steakhouse (inside the casino) but haven't been yet.held72 said:

Who knows, maybe her wild side will come out, anything is possible in that town. What else would you suggest.
I believe oysters are the first ones to be effected. Typsy would be able to provide better insight in that area.

and the cost has become quite prohibitive.
Shrimp is getting expensive, but luckily the areas west of the spill are producing still. We are sourcing our fish from closer to texas these days. Whatcha gonna do?

I guess we will be eating more steak. Made reservations for Arnaud's for the day we get in town, gonna hit Commanders for lunch one day, and I will be at Dante's on Wednesday. I will probably book something for Friday as well and leave the rest for spur of the moment dining. I have been down there quite a few times, but it will be her first so we will spend some time touring and doing the typical stuff. Full disclosure...I've only been there once, for lunch, and was underwhelmed given the reputation. Finn's is going to be absolutely slammed. The crowd there for the US/England game spilled outside, and many people had to watch it out in the comfortable SE LA heat. Tons of low-key bars in and around the quarter that would be a better option.

I guess it all depends on where you're staying...but if there's a chance of having to watch it outside...ouch. If the quarter bars are good for one thing, it's Air Condition.

I watched the US/England game at Cooter's. It was packed, standing-room only, and I gave up on buying a beer after waiting 20 minutes at the bar.Think I'm gonna check out the highly underrated 45 Tchoup for Saturday's game.

Oh great Held72 going to Barely Legal (if the name truly implies the girls there) means I'm wasting my time at the wedding Saturday, they won't make it out of NOLA before she cuffs him.
That said I expect a good review before we leave 7/29, Mrs Dawg has been convinced to check a club out.Went to Brigtsen's (right across the st. from Dante's on Friday night) for the first time. Had high expectations, and they met it. Best duck I've ever had. Enough to put them into my top 5 NOLA restaturants.
