I for one, wish this network would just disappear. Keep all the games on regular stations/cable where I can actually watch my favorite team play.

i suggest they hate cable, because they would love the NFL network

4Also - I do agree that Dukes is pretty lame in many respects..... I like him in much smaller doses and without the wierd mirror image/twin bit I've seen him do.I'm betting OP is not a NFL Net subscriber and for that I feel his pain - I was without it (Time Warner Cable last year) and missed a bunch of games because of it. But last year most of the Thursday games were 'eh' at best. But I can see being annoyed that one of the games is out of reach for you.Overall - with Total Access, NFC/AFC playbook and the replays - I'm very thankful for it.Although Baldinger on the Playbook shows needs less eye makeup. Dude looks like he just came off the set of 'The Birdcage' and he has way to much interesting things to say for me to be distracted by a shoddy makeup job.

NFL Network is a gift from God.

I don't mind Dukes, but NFL football programming with hosts that annoy you is still football talk and much better than Oprah, Dr. Phil, the evening news, CrapCenter, or whatever drivel is on.

I just wish they would devote a show on Sunday mornings to fantasy football. Maybe something 9AM-9:30.

No it is just another way for the NFL to suck money out of football fans.

Our local cable company (One Source) gets the NFL Network (in HD). If a startup cable company that services less than one county can negotiate an equitable deal with the NFL, it blows my mind TW and others can't.

Remember when the NBA tried to use pay per view on us? that didn't work out so well for them. I guess one game every now and again won't be bad. But if they try to charge us for all the games on top of the cable costs we are already paying. I think it'll blow up in there face. I also agree that they need more hidef programming, especially if they want me to pay an extra 10 bucks a month for it.

Editted to add:

They also need nfl games on demand in hi def in case I want to watch a game I missed.

They can but want the Network on premium tiers so they can get you yo buy a lot ofd other costly sports channels. The NFL wants it on basic. That's the issue.

right, i was under the impression NFL network doesn't want to charge outside of the regular basic cable package, and TW's gripe is they want to charge subscribers extra for it? So, it's not the NFL network gouging subscribers it's the cable companies like TW .....correct?

Yep...

While the trend of NFL games going from public > cable > direct tv stinks and I think the bum on the street to the broker on wall street should have access to all American Sports....... The NFL Network team (minus Jaime Dukes) rules the ESPN crew or any other crew out there.

Mike Mayock alone is a football genius and the extent of his football knowledge is un-fathomable.

(Most recently, he was by himself during months before the 06 draft when he called Jay Cutler the best of Young/Lienart/Cutler)

In fantasy.....,I stuck with his opinion and got flamed for it during the off-season and its starting to pay dividends.

Adam Schefter gets the scoop on NFL news 1st hands down too.

Brian Baldinger and Solomon Wilcots are just all around wise and fun guys to listen to as well.

Actually, isn't the trend of games going from a couple of public games > a couple of public games + a cable game or two > a couple of public games + a cable game or two + all of them on Direct TV? How am I getting the shaft here, exactly?eta: I can see an argument for missing your local teams' game(s) now that I've typed this.

It's both. From what I understand the NFLN is actually more expensive for cable companies to carry than other basic channels.

Actually the NFL wants more in fees than the ratings would warrant in ad sales.Long term the NFL is injuring themselves. I for one have begun to boycot the crack operation. Surprisingly enough I haven't been missing the games.

I wonder if the deeper issue here might not be the NFLN and it's cost but the fact that Big Cable is pissed that the NFL will only give the Sunday Ticket to DirectTv?

In before the title is changed to "is terrible".

As a Time Warner customer, I can't tell you how bad the NFL Network is because I don't have it. Now that sucks.

I wouldn't go back to life without the NFLN. If I lived in a refrigerator crate I would just have to find a way to hook the dish on the side somehow.

I just want to clarify, I am not by any means saying the programming on the NFL Network is bad.

What I think is bad, is that, the NFL (by no choice other than their own) is alienating over 70% of their fans from being able to see some of the games that are most important to them. At the very least the NFL should expand the local programming beyond 50 miles of the teams' home city(s) for games on the NFL Network to make sure the majority of the team's true fan base can still see the game.

If they would not have started the NFL Network, I would still be able to watch my favorite team play every single one of their games. This is the 2nd year in a row I will miss a Packers game, despite living in Wisconsin. Also, as long as Favre is playing, and possibly beyond that, there will always be atleast one Packer game on the NFL Network each year that I will have to miss. For those of you who not aware, The Green Bay Packers is the state religion of Wisconsin. For just one acre of the state to have to miss the game is despicable.

I think Cowboy fans have similar feelings as a large portion of Texas is going to miss the game as well.

I agree. I have the NFL Network, love it, typically dislike cable companies but I'm completely on their side in this case. I think the NFL is being extremely short-sighted. The games last season were terrible so few people cared if they didn't see them. The first game this season was terrible. The true test is this week's Dallas-Green Bay machup. But if there isn't a lot of backlash with this game then there may be little hope for the NFLN to achieve what it's trying to achieve here in my opinion.

That's why the good lord created sports bars. You will still be able to watch the game, just not from the comfort of your home.Hey, there never used to be Sunday night games. You got three on Sunday, and that was it. If you were rooting for an out of town team, you were out of luck. Local fans, such as yourself, have a legit complaint, but so do fans of teams that don't sell out in time. And maybe the complaint should be directed to your local cable provider.

Don't blame the NFL. The cable companies are the ones keeping everyone without satellite from seeing the games. They are the ones who want to force customers to pay for an extra sports package to get NFL Network.

The NFL wants their channel in standard packages which DISH and DirecTV have done.

The NFL is actually looking out for the consumer here and I, for one, applaud them.

Bryant Gumble will find a way to make the GB vs DAL game seem boring.

NFLN is great. Especially the fact they replay the week's top games in a condensed format.

The NFL is actually looking for ad revenue.I have NFLN and love it but the NFL is not doing this for consumers.

The NFL is in it for the money period. The league used to sell the TV rights to the big 3 (ABC, NBC, CBS) which could be picked up with merely a set of rabbit ears. Big money lured them to ESPN and the NFL Network and they jumped at the green knowing that many NFL fans would have to pay extra to see games on these channels. They didn't really care. We have basic cable and neither NFL Network nor ESPN is included. If I want to spend more money each month I can see more games, but I will not. It's a pretty predictable scenario, start charging and continue increasing charges until the market won't bear it anymore. The NFL thinks there is alot of market dollars to squeeze out of fans and I think they're right. How long until the Super Bowl is pay per view? I don't mind them charging for their great product as they have every right, but please don't use the "the cable companies are hurting our fans" as you sign a billion dollar contract with a channel whose broadcast is not free.

and Time Warner in general just sucks. I've only had them for about 3 months, but I've had lots of issues with my service, especially anything "on demand." They are horrible.

No, the NFL has created their own channel and demanded that everyone air their channel under their own terms. If I was a cable company I wouldn't appreciate the NFL's attempt to bully them around either. They also screw the cable companies by not allowing them to offer sunday ticket (or whatever it is called to be able to watch any game that is exclusive to dish -- I also wish I could buy that -- mainly so the other game I get to watch every week wouldn't have to be the freaking bears).

Can't say that I hate or love the NFL Network since I've never watched it. But, I disagree that I should hate my cable company for not carrying the network. Everything I've read requires the cable company to pay huge fees to carry the network, which in turn would raise my cable bill. I think the NFL sucks for demanding such a high price for their network.

That's not screwing the cable company. It's business. DirectTV paid for the exclusive rights. If the cable companies had been smart, they would have outbid them, because without the Sunday Ticket, Direct TV would have gone the way of the Betamax, and the cable companies would be in a much better position.

This is not exactly true - the NFL will charge the cable customers based on the number of subscribers. The NFL is trying to maximize revenues, not look out for the consumer. The NFL is not free for the cable companies, nor for the consumers."NFL Network has insisted that it be placed on basic service and wish to charge the cable companies a monthly rate of $0.61 per subscriber during the NFL season, while Time Warner and other major cable companies wishes to place it on a sports tier."By pushing to have the NFLN placed on the basic tier - everyone's bill goes up at least $0.61 per month. If you like the NFL - this is a no-brainer - you would pay for that all season long. But, not every cable subscriber wants the NFL Network. They will see an increase in their bill, but not get any benefit. So, the cable companies, who cater to a larger audience, merely want to put the NFL Network on a "sports tier" where the subscribers are already paying a premium, and would gladly pay an additional $0.61 per month. The cable companies want the NFLN, but want to shift the cost to those who will actually watch the channel, rather than force a price increase on everyone. This would lower revenues for the NFL, but would better represent the true demand for the product.
