I'm worried.....
I really think that we are going to see some games where the outcome is going to be affected by some calls.....and actually more from the "non calls" then the calls they do make....and unfortunately I think that is what is going to have to happen in order to get this thing worked out...I see this almost as the NFL dogging bullets for as long as they can....they kind of dodged the first one last night as the officiating didn't really seem to play a part in the game...but there are a lot of bullets to come and some will hit...
when you only have 16 games and 1 game can make the difference between winning the Super Bowl and not making the playoffs, that is a pretty steep price to pay.....
part of me also thinks that Vegas will somehow play a secret role in getting this settled....it is not going to be pretty when the point spread is affected by official's errors....just sayin.....
one thing I have noticed is that I think we are going to see more "non calls" then we have ever seen.....which may be a good thing in some ways....the current oficials have very little little confidence, so in some ways I think they are going to keep the flags in their pocket, unless they are sure their call is 100% legit...I think that is the side they will error on....while in the past, other officials may have taken advantage of the gray area of knowing they could fall back on even the slightest bit of contact, etc....now it's almost a "if I don't throw the flag, we just move on to the next down" mentality...."it's a last second shot so I'm not going to call that foul", etc...
it appears that the NFL will have people on the sidelines that the current officials can defer to to make sure they apply the rules right as far as spotting the ball, enforcement, etc....but those guys won't have flags
I yell at my TV screen enough as it is....I think it's going to be a rough couple weeks when this gets teed up for real....
