What just happened? I was on the Pats/SD game. What was Manny's involvement?
They talked about Manny being buzzed by Meyers and said Manny made some comments about Billingsly's unwillingness to come inside.Moyer hits Martin in the knee....didn't look intentional.Kuroda buzzes someone in the Phils lineup.Martin gets buzzed again high.Kuroda threw at Victirino's head. Victirino immediately signals to Kuroda...not to the head....the body. He grounds out and says something again to Kuroda. Benches clear.Manny runs to the front and needs to be restrained.

Thanks for the rundown. Lots of false bravado from Manny, I am sure.

I feel a little sorry for Moyer but I'd feel more sorry for the Phillies if they plan on throwing him in a game 7. I'm guessing it would be Hamels but still.

I would've loved to have seen Manny's reaction if he was actually allowed to get to the front and was confronted by Howard or Myers.About getting all worked up over it...I guess Manny forgot about the time when Clemens retaliated for Pedro's antics in the 2003 ALCS. Ramirez had a cow over it, setting off the infamous Pedro/Zimmer "THROWDOWN".So Manny wants retaliation message pitches...except when they're being thrown at him. Sounds about right.

Thing is, Phillies pitchers just don't throw at people.

Break Chase Utley's hand if you want. This team right now has a history of not throwing at anybody under any circumstances.

Martin....stop being a baby. Be a man.
The one ball hit him in his knees after he didn't move. That was his own fault. Took one for the team which is admirable, but the monkey antics in the dugout was a little embarassing.Victorino on other hand got head hunted, and took it like a man.

...a man who complained, pointed to his head a lot and then grounded out weakly to first.

Way to cling to past feelings....in the NLCS thread.

He was just asking for the fastball to be below his head, that's man enough for me. Mariano Duncan and Davey Lopes might go at it before series end. Ironic and a little strange to see larry Bowa and Davey Lopes now screaming at each other in opposite unies.

Interesting to hear Martin after the game, twice saying that the team didn't throw AT Victorino's head -- they threw OVER his head. Meanwhile, he's smiling and almost laughing about it the whole time. Then when he was asked whose decision it was to throw at him, he threw Kuroda under the bus and said he did it on his own. Now as a Yankee fan I know Torre certainly didn't call for it because that's unfortunately not his style, but are we to believe Martin had NO idea it was about to happen?

And kind of odd to be so blatant about it, no? Refreshing to see honesty, but still odd.

In any case, I'm hopeful for both series to go the distance. Shaping up to be a couple of good ones. All four teams also clearly showing that they're the ones that deserve to be here.

What else is Martin supposed to say. If the manager or catcher admits they called it, they're culpable. The only person who can get away with it to any degree is the pitcher. They can claim (as Myers did) that the ball slipped out of their hand. But I don't buy the lone gunman theory. A rookie pitcher isn't likely to make the decision on his own in the biggest game of the year. I think the call came from the bench in spite of your opinion of St. Joe. There was griping about the lack of retaliation earlier in the series. With an early lead, it was a favorable situation to unify the clubhouse and provide a spark.

Not saying Martin did anything wrong -- just saying it was odd to see him to blatantly acknowledge that they basically were throwing a pitch near a guy's head on purpose. And I hope you didn't misinterpret my comment about Torre. You referenced my "opinion of St. Joe" in your post. I wasn't saying Torre's such a great guy for the lack of brushback pitches. I was saying it is a character flaw of Torre's that he'd never instruct his guys to throw at someone. It was maddening when he was in NY that Jeter and ARod were constantly knocked down and hit by opponents but nobody on the Yanks ever went back inside or brushed anyone back.

If it did come from the Dodger bench, it was more likely to have come from Bowa than Torre in my opinion.

Dodgers pitching coach rick Honeycutt is another suspect. He did two tours of duty with LaRussa & Duncan, who've been known to request a little chin music now and again.

Fourth time this series the Dodgers have been within about a foot of a home run. The three doubles that hit off the top of the wall have cost the Dodgers at least one run. Then the leaping catch of Blake's shot. The Dodgers lost the previous two games in which this happened. Combine that with DeWitt's scorcher being caught and I'm not feeling good about this game.

And what a surprise, again Manny and Loney are the only two Dodgers who can hit. This thread has died. I guess it was the Cubs fans who carried the other one.

Torre does it again. Lowe is rolling along. You can pinch hit for him in the bottom of the inning. But Torre takes him out anyway and creates this mess.

One thing I learned from this game is that Penny Marshall is now large enough to be a Rose Bowl Parade float.

There you go, Torre. Was it worth giving up the lead and using three relievers in the sixth instead of staying with Lowe?

This is frustrating, not sure what Charlie's doing in this game.

For example, 2 on, no outs and you have Victorino bunt then pull Dobbs for Feliz?

Dodgers breaking in open as I type. :excited:

I'll speak for myself here:Do you want us to come join you in the #####ing and moaning? It seems like your doing enough of it for the rest of us. I'll just continue to enjoy watching my team play in the NLCS.

Woohoo, I think Kemp should attempt to bunt every time because he would have definitely swung and missed at all of those if he wasn't bunting. Two rabbits on the base paths.

Feeling good about the relievers to close it out. Either bring Kuo out again for the eighth or go Wade in the eighth and Broxton in the ninth.

And that's why you let Shane swing away with 2 on and no outs.Go Phils! :towelwave:
