***Official NY METS 2014 Thread*** (1 Viewer)

3 things on that play all went against us, and all were pretty obviously botched badly.

- Neighborhood play should've been on

- Utley never touched the base, wasn't even near it but he gets the base

- Blatant dirty play by Utley. It wasn't even remotely a slide and he wasn't even near the base

We move on....

Grabbed a split. The showed they could touch the 2 studs. Mets SP looked terrific.

Just need Harvey to come through and take the 2-1 lead.

Need to try to forget about this and enjoy football today. I have Francesa on and my head is about to explode.

Francesa wants it both ways. He said Tejada had no chance to turn a double play but he also said, although it was a dirty slide, that Utley was okay to try to break up the double play and no interference should be called in that situation.

MLB saying, essentially, that interference should have been called. Very frustrating, but let's hope the team can bounce back and take 2 of the next 3 games.

Said this to my wife last night who could not care less, thy would suspend Utley as their "apology" to the Mets.

I have no interest in this guy being suspended. Like 25% of my animosity is toward Utley. The umps and MLB officials and replay guys can all #### themselves. Suspend them.

Because of Utley's ability to appeal, his suspension has no real impact. What is lasting is MLB declaring war on those kinds of plays.
Except it was okay when Cubs second basemen Chris Coghlan took out Pirates shortstop Jung Ho Kang last month. Kang, a potential rookie of the year candidate, tore his left lateral meniscus and had a fractured tibia and will likely miss the start of the 2016 season.

Coghlan wasn't fined or suspended although he was clearly going to take Kang out rather than slide into the base. Instead it was called a good hard baseball play and that taking out the fielder is part of baseball.

I don't think the Utley play was any different and the MLB needs to be consistent. Either make take-out slides illegal or don't -- you can't have it both ways.

Kang play was not a good hard play.

Was terrible and should be removed from baseball.

The suspension came because it's the playoffs and millions of people are reacting.

You're right that's not consistent but the reality and probably why I see this being addressed and changed in the off season.

I don't know. The timing of that Coghlan slide looked much closer to me to that of your typical slide than the Utley one did.

It seems like that could/should make a difference.

The timing of the Utley slide seemed to be much later than that of the Coghlan slide. Also, it wasn't definitive to me that Coghlan purposely went high on Kang. Bottom line -- It wasn't clear to me that the Coghlan slide was dirty. It was very clear to me that the Utley slide was dirty.

Well, I assume MLB will be making a rule change this off-season. But I do think the Coghlan slide, while still not a "good" baseball play, was a play someone could defend with a straight face. Utley's slide reminded me of Holliday's takedown of Scutaro, which was just a completely dirty play that doesn't have a place in the game.

Coughlan went high and was clearly going to take out Kang. I don't think he tried to injure Kang but his main focus was to take out the SS in an effort to break up a double play rather than simply slide into second base.

At this point as a base runner you are not trying to reach the base, your only objective is to destroy the infielder.

They are both equally bad along with hundreds throughout the season where no one gets injured so it's not a big deal.

In a way, good that the appeal couldn't be heard. The time to DO something was last ####### game, right after it happened.

Now, let it be a reminder to us of the stakes here, let's go out, let's win this series.

Harvey better pitch a great ####### game is all I can say. You wanted to be the man?

Here. BE THE MAN.

Lot's of anxiety for this game.

Reminds me of when Clemens faced Piazza in the world series and then the whole bat incident and then Estes facing Clemens

Matt Reynolds gets put on the playoff roster

Hell yes. Best retaliation, best slap in their face is for us to go out and dominate.

Had four tickets given to me by a client about 5 pm. Hopping on the 7 in a couple minutes. Any room on this bandwagon?

ETA: FTR I was a Mets fan for one year (1973) when I was a kid. Ya gotta believe.

Hop on.

Being you have no future interest in the team can you streak and drop kick Utley.

Just checking in to say this: I don't think I remember a game this year where Harvey didn't dial up at least an occasional 2-strike pitch to 98 or 99. He hasn't gone above 96 tonight. That's not good and it's clearly impacting his results.

so your saying he should hit someone before he gets pulled?
