Dude, just stop. Stop presuming that people haven't moved away. Stop presuming that moving away defines how avid a fan someone is. And stop implying that your particular brand of fan is superior.

Yes, there are people who are bigger fans than others. It's a spectrum like anything else. What is your point?

And although not relevant, I don't like to miss an opportunity to post this: my team

I haven't posted anything about anyone else other than the other OSU fans I have run into here in SC. It's been my personal experiences, no one elses. Sorry you are reading into what I am saying, but I have no control over that. I don't presume anything. I only speak of the way things have unfolded for me and the folks who have had similar paths as me. Sorry that's so difficult to understand. I am sure there are those who have moved away and miss all the "passion" greatly and want nothing more than to be right in the middle of it. I understand for a lot of people the fighting, hate, bickering etc is what they live for. It's simply not for me.

Just so Commish knows he isn't on an island... As you can tell, I moved from Ohio (that's what the Buckeye part of the nick means, has nothing to do with OSU) to Texas a long time ago. While I do route for OSU to this day, I didn't get even remotely wound up about this game. Yes, I understand the rivalry and all that. But what the Commish says is true for me too, right now, it's just another game. No title implications at all. It has stolen a lot of the luster away from the game. Admittedly, I didn't even see the second half this year. Wife had some errands she wanted to run so we went and ran them. Didn't even Tivo the game. Wanted OSU to win, sure. But it wasn't worth missing out on other thngs for. Not sure if moving away is solely responsible. I think getting older is too. I don't get riled up to anywhere near the extent I did when I was younger. But I would never hang my season on one game. People that say things like "Well we went 1-10, but at least we beat XXX" really baffle me. That's the sound of just accepting losing.

I know I am not on an island. Actually, I think my/your view is more the norm, not the exception. Once you get away from that area you see it. I moved into a neighborhood here in SC where everyone in my cul-de-sac is an OSU fan. NONE of them have that "passion" people in that area claim to have. We enjoy giving each other the business (my neighbor went to UM also), but at the end of the day it's a football game. We don't care if the country thinks the game is or isn't the best rivalry in football/sports. What they think doesn't change what it means to us personally.

On a side note....I have YET to meet an OSU fan that actually graduated from there. I know there is one or two floating around here, but even in Cincy, none of the guys or their wives went to school there. It's very odd to me.

We never had a decent football team at Akron (still don't but there is a kick ### stadium now) and it was essentially a commuter school when I went there. 20,000+ students and probably less than 5,000 on-campus students. There was just never any support for them. OSU was drilled into my head by the old man, just like all my friends so we always just supported them. We went to Akron games but I don't go out of my to find an Akron game on tv.

Unless you work for or played for the franchise you really should not root for any pro team either.

If you didn't "grow up" rooting for the Buckeyes, then you would have just been rooting for some other large school, possibly in the area (Big10, Pitt, WVU, etc), if you are a college football fan. What's the difference? This "hypothesis" makes zero sense. It's not like you were branded Akron U from birth as the college you were going to go to. I went to Ohio U and didn't start "rooting" for them until I went there. Now they are my MAC team of preference.

The people down here are embarrassing. They are OSU fans in football and UC fans in basketball (Well up until Huggins got shafted a few years ago).

When asked why they are OSU fans, they say "They are my hometown team" What about UC?

They say they follow UC for basketball cause they are their "hometown team"

If UC didnt have a football program, ok I get....but they do and always have.....you cant pick and choose which programs to follow...

The real answer is "UC is the good basketball program in the general vicinity and OSU is the good football program in the general vicinity, so that is who I follow"

As far as I've seen people in Cincinnati by and large dont root for OSU. It's a relatively crappy Buckeye town.And UC being better than OSU? Maybe this year, but it's only a matter of time before Kelly moves on to a big time program and returns UC to the afterthought it's always been.

Doesn't bother me, you can think how you want and I could care less. My finding something ridiculous doesn't mean I'm losing sleep over it. Surely, being in SC and all, you are finding many Clemson and USC fans that didn't go to college there. That is, if you are being observant.

Off subject....but neither school seems to be getting much love for hoops this year. I thought OU would be good. I guess it depends on Bassett's impact (IU transfer). Always a great rivaly though!

My cousin's husband. I went to a few games there...it was a pretty good time. They had their wedding reception on campus.

That it's odd to me, given all the OSU fans I have run across in person, none of them have graduated from there. Same applies for Southern Cal fans.....never met one that's actually gone to school there, much less graduated. I figure with all the ones I've met, there'd be at least one graduate. No kidding here. I am in Utah and there is tons of Michigan gear to be had, and very hard to find OSU stuff, even though there are more OSU grads around than UoM.

That's cool. Problem is your original comment didn't come off as simply a personal anecdote about your experience, it came off as a backhanded swipe at OSU fans. Which I find pretty funny considering you are a UM fan. The moral of the story is that both schools are full of non-alum bandwagon fans. MSU, on the other hand, has only true fans. Because honestly, as bad as we've been over the years only a true fan would root for Spartan football.

That wasn't the intent and exactly why I have tried to clarify it 50 times already. Something tells me that had folks not known that I am a UM guy, they probably wouldn't have thought twice about it.
