***Official OHIO STATE-MICHIGAN Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I have to wonder what the spread offense will do to Michigan. On the one hand, you do well in college. On the other, spread offense players are downgraded when getting drafted and going to the pros, so their pro prospects are diminished. Players that are serious about going pro might be more hesitant to go to a school with that type of offense. OSU plays a pro offense and has a strong history of making pros. That could weigh on the decision. I am going to be very interested to see how the offense takes its toll on Michigan recruiting in the coming years. Manningham and Arrington leaving might make him hesitant, also. It sure would be easier walking into an offense with good WR's.
I'm concerned about how the new offense will impact recruiting as well. Are all players on a spread offense downgraded? I would think only the QB would be. Lineman still have to block. Receivers still have to run routes, catch and block. Backs still have to hit the hole, protect the QB, run routes, etc. It's the same basic fundamentals, no? I agree on the QB being downgraded. Just wondering about the other positions.

WRs have to block a lot. Name one wide receiver on West Virginia (without looking it up). It depends on what kind of spread they run. Using Big Ten examples ... if they run a Northwestern or Purdue spread, receivers and quarterbacks are NFL ready. If they run an Illinois or West Virginia spread, not so much. Not sure how the NFL looks at linemen in a spread offense.

I would just chime in with this on the spread offense. Urban Meyer ran it at Utah and I don't think it hurt Alex Smith's NFL prospects. Now, you can certainly debate his performance in the NFL, and I suppose you could discuss the lingering effect that may have on drafting more in the future, but I really do think Rodriquez and Meyer and other coaches are correct in that you can absolutely modify the spread based on your personnel.

Exactly.I mean, y'all realize that NE runs a spread, right?

But can Rodriguez run a passing focused spread? I think spread has turned into a generic term and there are many variations. Look at the big ten - Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue all run a spread and they all are very different to prepare for.

with Rich Rod shunning Mallett he is setting up for disaster if he can't land Pryor........or if Pryor is a bust..!!
I have seen a few games Pryor has played, not really sold on his accuracy, but he will be a winner in college because he is a freak athlete.

He was the worst throwing QB at the Army HS Bowl the other day. But, he was also the best athlete. His running ability is really amazing.

Ya, he lives in the town next to me, and people are all over his jock around here, but he will end up being another Vince Young, Mike Vick or Kordell Stewart down the road.

not sure if this is meant as an insult. All things considered i'd say Kordell had a pretty successful pro/college career...

as a throwing quarterback? The kid has talent just not in throwing the football (from the limited amount I have seen) but has a boatload of talent with the ball in his hands.

He seemed to make a few good plays throwing on the run in the series I watched of the AAG. He may never be a Pro-QB level passer, but I'd be pretty happy if I was Michigan and had him coming in to run Rodriguez's offense.

I've been through the Kordell ringer too many times, fun in college, but you can keep QBs like him, Young and Vick when you are talking NFL.. :X :VY was a disgrace to watch last week...I feel bad for Titans fans. So overrated...

I've heard Steve Young opine recently that the NFL is just waiting for a coordinator to bring a pro-version of the Spread Option to take advantage of the "new wave" of athlete/QBs. I think the idea has some merit but you would need to have about 3 guys in the Young/Vick/Stewart category, because I think it would be nearly impossible to get through a full season with your #1 guy healthy.

Problem is, they QBs are more athletic than most in college, but when they get to the pros, the defenses are just a fast and athletic. Another problem is these QBs rely on their athletic prowess in college to get them out of any jam, and have trouble reading NFL defenses becuase of it.

I don't care if Pryor projects to the pros or not (by all accounts I've seen he'll be playing on Sundays, although so did the other QBs mentioned), I just don't want him to go to Michigan and want him to come to Columbus. Win baby, win. We need some of that in Ohio.

He will fit Michigans offense better....

I'm amazed that anyone projected in the first round, let alone the Top 10 ever comes back - the chance of injury is just too great IMO.But I sure will enjoy watching the little Animal play again next year in the shoe.

Out of the 6 Buckeyes that could have gone, Gholston was the only one who declared... and he was a 4th year player (red shirt freshman).

5 1st day picks coming back. Jenkins, Freeman, Robiskie, Lauranitis and Boone. Jenkins and Lauranitis easy 1st rounders. Makes me nervous for their health, but very happy as a fan.Bring on the Trojans... :goodposting:

Pryor's high school QB coach from today's Plain Dealer:

"His biggest concern when we were talking the other day," Hall said, "is he just doesn't know who to trust. Right now, he's a little flustered. He doesn't know what to do.".

Good timing as Rich Rodriguez allegedly destroyed all documents he had on all his players at WVU. Isn't he also being sued because he won't give some money back to WVU? This guys seems a little off to me.

Also, sounds like he's visiting UM this weekend, and has added LSU to his list of possiblities.

Recruiting: Pryor down to Ohio State, Penn State

The nation's number one recruit, quarterback Terrelle Pryor, has removed Michigan and Oregon from his short list. That leaves only Ohio State and Penn State.

Four days ago he said that he would make his decision known at 12:05 on Tender Day , Wednesday the 6th. He did not.

He has now ruled out Michigan and Oregon. The decision would be bad for anybody, but it is particularly bad for the Wolverines, who don't have a suitable quarterback available for next season.

Worse still, Rodriguez' recruiting antics over the past few weeks have offended the entire conference. There is considerable speculation that what he has done may be working against him.

Recruiting ethics, plus missing documents at West Virginia, have raised red flags across the country.

That article is a joke of a recruiting report. No facts, no sources, clear bias and use of misinformation. The guy that wrote it looks like he is senile. While I fear that Pryor's decision may come down to Ohio State or Penn State, this article provides absolutely no information to support that conclusion. What a hack of a sportswriter.

Anyone have an update?

Seems like if the kid really like the limelight that much he would have done something to get back in it. I think he is just a kid trying to please too many people.
