So is Justin Smith playing?
Yah these attempts to compare Kaep to Joe Webb are terrible and need to stopI'd debate it was a RB or WR attempting to play QB.After the way GB dominated a running QB this past weekend I don't think that is very likely. Any team is at maximum advantage when the run/pass split is 50%. On the year, SF is 497/492 for pass/run. SF can do still do both very well with Kaep I expect their ratio to be near 50% for this game as well.No doubt Moss is going to have to step up. Lots of attention will be on Crab this weekend. I just hope Kaep has learned how to get it to him on the deep routes. So many times, the ball was not put in the right place for Moss to make a play on it.
Am I the only one that thinks Harbaugh emphasized Kaep to stay in the pocket more over these last few games rather than tuck and run with a master plan to unleash his feet this weekend? Just a hunch but I'm thinking Kaep finishes the day with close to 100 on the ground and maybe 1 rushing TD.

I don't think most are comparing the two other than running ability. The only thing it helps is for GB to have just seen a running QB to be more aware of it and the game speed of such a player.Yah these attempts to compare Kaep to Joe Webb are terrible and need to stopI'd debate it was a RB or WR attempting to play QB.After the way GB dominated a running QB this past weekend I don't think that is very likely. And Alex Smith was top 3 in QBR this year...I can't wait for this game as a Niner fan. If we win, it means we're in the NFC Championship game again. If we lose, then it will prove Harbaugh was wrong to put in Kaep this year. Alex Smith got us to the NFC Championship game last year, going toe to toe with Drew Brees to do so. Hell he could have gotten us to the Super Bowl if not for Kyle Williams. Oh and he beat Green Bay in Lambeau this year. If Kaep is soooo much better, then he should be able to beat them at home. In reference to the bolded, this will only be true if he has a game like the Rams game where he pretty much fell apart. I'm more concerned about the defense playing up to its standard. It's still the strength of this team and if it doesnt play well, it doesn't matter who the starting QB is.And Alex Smith was top 3 in QBR this year...I can't wait for this game as a Niner fan. it was all over. If Kaep manages this game the way he has shown he can and Harbaugh keeps GB on it's heels with a mix of run=pass. Glad to see most folks realize it's silly to compare Kaepernick and Webb. I agree with BaBastage and others - the biggest key for SF is how healthy Justin Smith is. If he's mostly ineffective this game could get ugly for SF.Big key too will be for GB...if Newhouse can play like he did against Allen...it will help big time.He has not been all that good so many times...that its hard to expect him have 2 games in a row.'butcher boy said:It doesn't even matter though. Yes, they are better than the SF DBs and have the best QB in the NFL throwing to them. Very concerned.I just can't see SF staying within 2 scores.Anyone else concerned about the GB WRs?
Cobb practiced on Tuesday, sat out Wednesday(said he had the flu)
Nelson didn't practice Tuesday or Wednesday. Looked like he reinjured his leg in the last game.

Not worried about Cobb.Nelson continues to get dinged up so that is a concern..but he has been that way for several weeks now.THey have Jennings back healthy, Cobb, and Jones stepping up.Anyone else concerned about the GB WRs?Cobb practiced on Tuesday, sat out Wednesday(said he had the flu)Nelson didn't practice Tuesday or Wednesday. Please. Williams was what the 5th receiving option? Hunter was the backup RB and James has filled in just fine in that role. Manningham was the 3rd (if not 4th) receiving option on the team for most of the year behind Crabtree, Davis, and possibly Moss. You make a million and one excuses for Kaep. Great. or not. Seriously.Manningham was Kaep's go-to guy before he got injured, and he was having a solid season. If the def plays as well as it did in week1, I'm pretty confident Kaepernick will also get a win. Big if with j smith's health.http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000113205/article/aaron-rodgers-alex-smith-deserves-to-be-appreciatedDoes Aaron Rodgers agree? We'll see on Saturday. How about if the offense scores 30 points and they lose I'll give kaep a pass? 30 points is what they scored in lambeau. If the def plays as well as it did in week1, I'm pretty confident Kaepernick will also get a win. Some just can't let Alex Smith go. Smith will still be argued like he was Joe Montana, even though Smith has never made a Pro-Bowl.ETA: case in point - a lot of 49er fans didn't think that Peyton Manning was a better option than Smith. When fans think that, they are pretty insane anyway.Wow, this is really different than a Seahawks thread. The 49ers fans are arguing with each other. And they don't even have sho nuff on their side.....
I wish Rodgers would temporarly injure himself and have Graham Harrell forced into action. Just want to know, if Webb is truely the worst backup in the league. Not to pile onto the debate but I wish Alex Smith was starting as well (from a Packer fan).

A lot of QB's don't make the Pro-Bowl, but it's a bit unusual for a QB who was picked #1 overall to not make it with the same team after 8 years, not even as an alternate. If he was a journeyman vet who went from team to team over that period of time, there would be a reason for that. Some just can't let Alex Smith go. You remind me a lot of the Packers fans who cheered against the Packers after Favre left, hoping that TT and MM would fail and be fired. I'm not saying that you are cheering against SF...but it seems you are so against the QB change that you can't enjoy the fact that your favorite team just got a first round bye and very well may be on their way to the Super Bowl in a few weeks. As a Packer fan, I'm not sure who I'd rather start for SF. Smith is efficient, although not spectacular. Kaep may be prone to mistakes, but he can also create things that Smith simply cannot. As a 49er fan, do you not agree that Kaep has a higher ceiling than Smith? How about if the offense scores 30 points and they lose I'll give kaep a pass? 30 points is what they scored in lambeau.

My linkJust to let you know who you are asking.Better prospect. Tannehill-Doesn't have perfect mechanics, but CK's godawful windup makes him look wayyy better.-Way better pocket presence-Just as good as CK throwing on the run-Throws a better ball, CK throws a lot of woblers-Comparable arm strength, although CK throws with more velocity -Can actually make a touch throw. Did you see CK's attempt at a fade to Moss? A hs kid could have done better.Kaepernick-More athletic, faster-Throws harder
It might be the same team, but how many coordinators and head coaches has he had in those 8 years? Isn't this year the first time he's had the same HC and OC from the previous season? What's the difference between a journeyman going from team to team vs a guy whose coaching staff dramatically changes every year? I'm not defending him, I haven't seen enough of Kaepernick to make my opinion of if I agree of the change. It's not like he's had ANY stability until this year, and he was leading the league in how many categories when he got hurt....?A lot of QB's don't make the Pro-Bowl, but it's a bit unusual for a QB who was picked #1 overall to not make it with the same team after 8 years, not even as an alternate. First, all those offenses were watered down for Smith, and he has been in the Digital offense since after Mike McCarthy left, prior to Harbaugh. Kaep is the first real competition Smith has had at that position, and Smith had been benched for Shaun Hill and was losing out to JT O'Sullivan (who hardly had that much time of at all) running Mike Martz's offense. He was also benched for Troy Smith running Mike "Hack" Johnson's Jimmy Raye offense. Hill ran Martz's offense as well as Jimmy Raye's, and Hill hardly had any NFL snaps prior to the 49ers. Hill also ran the Hostler/Tollner offense and hit Vernon Davis (who was thought as a bust at the time) for a TD after Trent Dilfer got hurt. Ok, here is a timeline list of 49er QBs who started games:It might be the same team, but how many coordinators and head coaches has he had in those 8 years? Agreed. Kaep has more potential than Smith no doubt about it. I just think Smith gives us the better chance to win in 2012. Didn't the Packers do away with Favre in the offseason? As I said, if Smith failed then you'd have the perfect excuse to let him go, and go with Kaep. If he played well and kept improving, then I don't see a reason to fix what isn't broken.'The Westin said:You remind me a lot of the Packers fans who cheered against the Packers after Favre left, hoping that TT and MM would fail and be fired. The NFL window is never as big as you want.If you see a guy has the potential to be better and there is any opportunity to get him in there...you have to do it.You can't wait and see for another year and another possible failure to move on...your window could close quickly.Agreed. No one here, is arguing Smith of 2005-2010 is a better QB than Kaep. As Mad Sweeney mentioned, I don't think you can put those failures all on him. If there's one thing you can't knock Smith for, it's intelligence. Most NFL people recognize he's one of the top 5 most intelligent QBs, they just claim he doesn't have all the physical tools. Debatable, maybe he can only throw it 50 yards in air instead of 60. Watch his TD throw to crabtree last year against the rams if you don't think he can throw a nice 50 yard deep ball.'drummer said:One more note: Alex Smith was still working on his basic mechanics this past off-season. Really important basic stuff like footwork and hips. Release is still an issue, and all this adds up to is he still having to take sacks due to the mechanics, read and recognition, etc.
