I'm also hearing that Maroney getting a lot of looks in the preseason is exactly that. They want to see how healthy he is and if he can run with authority. I still don't think he will see a ton of carries in the regular season, but as we all know the Pats RB corps is old and frequently injured so Maroney could pick up extra work when the other guys can't go.
I still think when push comes to shove, the guy under 30 is going to be the most valuable on the team. I really don't get Fred Taylor's ADP being higher than Maroney's.
antsports mock data last 21 days has fred at 47 and maroney at 52 (RBs only). this is basically a push, with a slight edge to fred for having been there, done that versus maroney having been there, not done that.if dy is saying that fred is leading the race to get the ball between the 20s, i like fred here, but would take either at a discount.

The only news is that Morris has been in and out of practice with the dreaded "undisclosed injury." (I have no clue what it is.) I think the plan remains similar to what I have outlined before, although there is a chance that Morris' injury could end up getting him cut as very soon the Pats will have more players they want to keep than roster spots.
Thanks. It looks like the situation may be a lot more clear than everyone expected -- Fred Taylor is the starter (based on preseason game 2; he didn't play game 1), Maroney as the top backup, KFaulk being KFaulk, and Law Firm inactive or on special teams.

Except as currently consistuted that's not how it is. There is no starter, only puzzle pieces based on game situations. That ***COULD*** be an outcome if Morris is gone (and at that point I suspect BJGE would not be inactive each week as there would only be 4 RB).Under the Morris = gone scenario, I suspect we would see:- Taylor primary back between the 20s on 1st and 2nd down- Faulk in on 3rd downs and passing downs- BJGE the short yardage back- Maroney back up to probably all of those, with some between the 20s work mixed in.I really don't see one guy getting enough of the workload to be a fantasy regular, but all of them could have some utility as spot starters, emergency fill ins, bye week/injury fillers, or flex options (at least in deeper leagues).
