Love the continued Springsteen love on these solo showsSo many of Bruce's slower, darker numbers really lend themselves to Eddie's vocal styleI bet he did a great job on State TrooperAlso a big fan of the Lukin>>>Porch comboTo all those who are getting a chance to see this tour, enjoy!

Positive review from Albany newspaper

Vedder opens strong in Albany By MICHAEL ECK, Special to the Times UnionLast updated: 12:41 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009ALBANY -- Rocker Eddie Vedder has been camped out in Albany since Saturday, whiling his time by rehearsing some new tunes, paddling along the Hudson River and enjoying, apparently, a few legal beverages. Mobile AlertsGet weather alerts, sports scores and more. Talk about this review in our Reviews blog.An admittedly tipsy Vedder launched his new tour in Albany Monday night at the Palace Theatre and he wowed an already adoring crowd with a selection of Pearl Jam rarities; tunes from his "Into The Wild" soundtrack; and a handful of well-chosen covers (including Daniel Johnston's "Walking The Cow" and Bruce Springsteen's "State Trooper").Vedder is best known as a charismatic frontman, but he was quite comfortable being the only man on stage Monday, whether strumming an acoustic guitar, tearing into an electric, trilling a mandolin or finger-picking a ukulele.Whatever he did, the crowd ate it up.Vedder's voice is huge and it filled the Palace easily, especially on rocking numbers like "Sometimes," "I Am Mine" and the raging "Lukin."But he also cooed, and a mutated version of Bob Dylan's "Girl From The North Country" was one of the evening's clear highlights.Vedder also offered Dylan's "Forever Young" as an encore. In between tunes, Vedder was like an affable uncle in the corner at a party -- spouting quips, slurring a touch and once in a while telling full-out stories. One of the latter was delivered from a chair shaped like feet -- one of a number of Neil Young-like surreal touches to the staging of the event. Many of the tunes from "Wild" are fragmentary, almost glimpses of songs rather than full compositions. In their brevity and melody some called to mind Tim Hardin. But each shone in its own right, with "Rise" shimmering and "No Ceiling" coming and going like a dream."Guaranteed," a lengthier piece, was extended by Vedder forgetting some of the lyrics and looping back to catch them."Thank you for your patience," he said to the crowd. "That's the longest version of "Guaranteed" I've ever played."Later, for the encore of "Arc," Vedder literally looped his voice, using electronics to multiply his wordless singing into a symphony. As the improvisation wound down Vedder took to the pit in front of the stage to shake hands with fans.To fully close the show, he was joined by opening act Liam Finn and Eliza Jane Barnes for a rousing, rocking "Hard Sun."The duo dazzled on their own in their chaotic yet melodic opening set, which, too, was loaded with loops. Often enough Finn would build and build a song until finally crashing it home with a Keith Moon-like rampage on the drums.Vedder's show was sold-out wall-to-wall. He returns to the Palace tonight, Tuesday, for another round, but it, too, is sold-out.If you're lucky enough to have a ticket you will enjoy a show, which is dramatic, goofy and entrancing all at once.

Wow, great show. First off, if you have any tickets to these shows, do not miss Liam Finn. For those who don't know he's Neil's (Crowded House, Split Enz) son, and is extremely talented. He played all of the instruments on his album by himself and used a tape machine (no computers to put it together). So on stage, it's him and a lady (beautiful voice) doing everything. He plays guitar, uses the loop machine, switches over to drums, etc. Really interesting and unique - and the songs are really good. B/w breaks they both went out by the merchandise booth and signed autographs and stuff. Seems like a very genuine guy. I'll definitely be downloading some of his stuff when I get home.On to the show - we had 4th row a little left of center, and this was very good for this intimate setting. The vibe going in is very different from a PJ show b/c you're in a theater (opera house in this case), no drinks allowed inside (this is a good thing) and everyone has a sort of mellow excitement.

Set list (unconfirmed): Walking the Cow, (Brain Damage intro) Sometimes, Don't Be Shy, I Am Mine, I'm Open, Man of the Hour, Gone, Far Behind, No Ceiling, Guaranteed, Rise, Broken Hearted, Soon Forget, Atlantic City, Driftin', You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, Small Town, Porch1st Encore: Society (with Jerry Hannan), Golden State (with Eliza), New Song, Arc (stopped), I am a Patriot2nd Encore: Santa Cruz (with Liam Finn), Hard Sun (with Liam Finn)
Eddie does an incredible job of just sucking you in......we've got balcony tickets tonight, but I've got a feeling that it's not going to matter, b/c of the type of performer he is. There were a few drunk #######s who kept yelling #### out, and Eddie (and most fans) were clearly getting frustrated, but he was trying to get pissed. He would humorously tell them to shut up and stop being drunk aholes, but when you get a few thousand folks together, there's always gonna be some DB who wants to hear his own voice. Towards the end of the night when someone would scream something stupid, the entire theater would yell 'Shhhhhhh" - which got some chuckles.Right before Man of the Hour was when Ed addressed the aholes and people shouting out....so what happens right after the song, someone yells "Play Gone". Instead of getting pissed, Ed obliges as long as he can remember it. He screws around on the guitar for about a minute and asks the crowd to help with the words. The crowd nails the first verse, and as the second verse starts, Ed forgets the words completely, and the crowd starts signing. Ed stops, apologizes and asks, where do I start again?" Everyone starts screaming "In a far off distance", but of course with all of the people, Ed can' make it out - so he says "just one person now" and only a few shout it and he kind of smiles and finishes the song. After Driftin' he comments on that we'd be getting 2 other xmas single songs tonight, so I figure we'd be hearing Golden State an Santa Cruz. The new song, is very slow and dark, and I'd really need to hear it again to make something out of it. In the middle of Arc, he motioned to the sound guy to cut it off, and then apologized b/c "he wasn't feeling it, and he didn't want to do the song improperly". I really hope he tries again tonight, b/c that's the one song that I want to hear in this intimate setting.Golden State and Santa Cruz were very good, I really did these songs - fun and laid back. All the house lights came on for Hard Sun and it seemed like the end went on forever with the entire theater signing the chorus over and over.Highly recommend anyone who gets a chance to go see the show - can't wait for tonight.

Looks like TF got a great set last night:

Gone was by request, Soceity with Jerry Hannan (who wrote it), 2 XMas single songs (Santa Cruz and Golden State) AND I Am a PatriotThat's a great setlistseems like there was something off about the looping on Arc and he stopped, saying he wasn't feeling it and not wanting to fake itTF had 4th row center seats, hope he had a great time

Nice to know the Baltimorons are making it interesting, as I expected
I have nothing to compare it to, but Ed did make a comment (I'm paraphrasing) - "Come on guys, it's not Friday night in Philly - it's Sunday night......in Baltimore"And it wasn't a whole bunch of people doing it, but hell in a quite theater, 3 or 4 guys can make a lot of noise.

Will give a better review tomorrow, but high level - tonight was much better than last night. Only about 8 of the songs were different, but they were played so much better, Ed was in a better mood, etc.Arc in a small opera house was ####### amazing....I coulda listened to that for hours.

Set list: (1st 7 Songs NOT in Correct Order) Walking the Cow, (Brain Damage intro) Sometimes, , Around the Bend, Guaranteed, Rise, Picture in a Frame, You're True, Open All Night , Driftin', You've Gotta Hide Your Love Away, Let My Love Open the Door, Parting Ways, Small Town, PorchEncore: Society (with Jerry Hannan), Throw Your Arms Around Me (with Liam Finn), Golden State (with Eliza), Forever Young, Wishlist, Arc, Hard Sun (with Liam Finn)
Also, reminding myself to tell the story about Liam Finn's great aunt/uncle

Awesome sets. I'm collecting some of the first EV tour now. Tu> did you ever put the better quality show on megaupload? Yes, I'm about a year behind on this.

Excited for next Camden PJ hole

I don't care if he forgot the words, Believe you Me? For those who don't know this was a song Ed recorded with his first band, Bad Radio on a guitar and drum machine. If I can dig up a copy, I'll upload it.

Whats up guys.... damn what a show.

TF has posted the setlist... Ed was on spot and reeeeally diggin on the history of the Ryman... making comments like: "Ive been in the music biz a long time and at this point there arent many firsts left... but Ive always wanted to play here." He made tons of other references to the ghosts flying about and folks like minnie pearl and roy acuff. Not going to go into a ton of detail cuz I am posting from my phone in the pool at the Sheraton downtown nashville. Turns out I ran into a cool 10 clubber named derek who was in from kentucky. I had a spare of the ltd ed Hatch show prints for this 2 show set (they sold out fast) and gave the dude one. He in turn offered me his spare for tonights show. I cleared #### with the boss this AM, ran the GF back to Memphis and came back for round 2 tonight.

Alas no rooms ready at this lovely 4 star (bs) establishment so Im killin a couple hours in the pool. I will try to answer any questions if the phone holds up. If not Ill try to post a fulll review tomm after both shows. Got EV at Orpheum in memphis sat night s that will make 3 shows in 4 days

cant wait till tonight....

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a365/dan...etlistryman.jpg

setlist from last nite... ####in amazing. ed was in a stellar mood.... very very chatty including fun sotriess about his time skeet shooting w kings of leon...his days as a security guard....and best of all, learning how to play guitar from a chord book he stole from a church. given the ryman used to be a church, he repented.

dare I say last night topped the night before, and Im not even sure it was b/c of the 4th row center seats (vs 8th row left last night).... though these seats were just nuts. pearl jam fans are a rare breed.... I meet a guy wed night... talk PJ and the significance of seeing ed at the ryman....the next night he turns down 300-400 from a scalper to GIVE me the ticket. Thats a fan ladies and gentleman. Needless to say he didnt pay for a beer all night. Good guy is an understatement.

Arc last night was....well...just amazing. Girl from North Country was great... Porch flat out TORE the roof off the ryman. I have been to a lot of shows there... NEVER have I seen that kind of energy in one room. Seemed like every last one of the 2600 people were in tune and at the top of thier lungs for every note. Prompted ed to make another reference to the rymans history w/ "now we sound like a congregation" or something to that effect. Again and again he addressed how in awe of the venue he was... Ive seen a lot of shows and he's never been like this...

Oh and today ed is getting his first ever face to face "contact" meeting w damien echols of the west memphis three... previous two were thru glass. As ed put it: "Its not like we're gonna sit there and hold hands....well...we probably will but thats besides the point..." :laughtrack:

Oh...and "The End" is not the Doors track of the same name.... it is the "new song" by ad that is aguably the most gorgeous, haunting song he's ever written.... that taste has me salivating for the new album... if the rest of the songs have HALF the vibe of that song this could be their best album yet..... no hyperbole.

Back to memphis... turns out my good friends's parents run the Orpheum....I have the honor of dropping ONE item backstage to be signed. I am torn. Do I get the original Christmas demo (uber uber rare) signed... or do I get a rYMAN hatch print poster signed.....which will be framed along w my two stubs from the last two nights... I think Ed would probably appreciate the vinyl more.... thoughts?

I am REALLY struggling with the decision of what to have put backstage to potentially get signed:

Very limited Edition Hatch Show Print for Ryman shows that I will be framing w/ ticket stubs

Or

1991 Let Me Sleep - 10 Club Vinyl

Leaning toward poster due to making the framed setup 10x sweeter, but I think the vinyl would prob be more likely to get signed and might strike a chord with ed seeing something from back then... dunno
Tough call. While I agree on the cool factor involving the framed setup, they probably will be in abundance, the demo more apt to stand out. I'd just be ascared to let that outa my sight.

Well that was easier than expected. My GB said no problem to putting them both back there in the dressing room on the "please sign" table.

Now just crossing my fingers...

Dude that is awesome - if you had to choose one, I was going to say the xmas single.Jealousy is a severe understatement here

from various posts on the PJ boards, it's almost a slam dunk that pj will be playing the Spectrum for 3 nights: 10/29-10/31.

Would be awesome

Yeah so pretty sure none of you believe #### I have to say at this point with my luck streak, but everyone who knows me will tell you I'm the luckiest ******* on the 3rd rock.

Wed I sat directly to the right of a guy who GAVEme a 4th row center to Thursday's show (street value = $300 first offer from scalpers...so, much higher)

Yesterday on my "day off" on this lovely 4 day tour, I had materials thrown backstage to HOPEFULLY be signed...

Tonight I sat directly to the right of a guy shooting the show on video... and quite professionally. Black drape cloth...etc. Turns out he was flying solo (first mistake) and I alerted him of hovering security early on with a very republicanesque foot tap. After a second save he started kinda trusting me. Covered him the rest of the show watching the mezzanine doors for security. Exchanged numbers at the end of the show and HOPEFULLY he'll hold to his word and have a 1st Gen Fully Digital DVD in my mailbox within a few days of final editing.

Yeah... that means you #######s are getting copies.

Met up with Fuller before/after... went to go see a longtime buddy of mine (Patrick Dodd) who recently picked up the electric guitar... Kid had the big-money voice before. Now, well I'll just let DF post his personal opinion. :)

Show overall was very very good. My personal take?

Setlist: Ranks Tied for Second with Thursday.

Overall Show: Ranks a VERY CLOSE 3rd behind Wednesday's Ryman show and a lil bit behind Thursday's show.

I won't hear back on the signatures till Monday, sadly.

Video guy..well as soon as I hear about that, the regulars in here will get some packages via USPS or FEDEX within a day or two of me getting mine..

Unofficial setlist for tonight via PJ community:

Set list (unconfirmed): Walking the Cow, Brain Damage/Sometimes (w/ a singalong at the end), Last Kiss, Betterman (similar to nashville version), Millworker, No Ceiling, Far Behind, Guaranteed, Rise, Your True, Drifting, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, Can't Help Falling in Love, Let My Love Open the Door, Wishlist, Porch

1st encore: Golden State w/ E.J., Society w/ Liam, Throw Your Arms Around Me w/ Liam, Small Town, Forever Young, Arc

2nd encore: Santa Cruz w/ Liam on drums, Hard Sun
Very very good set. I'll say Ed was the least chatty of the 3 shows I've seen lately. Still in very good spirits, however... Amazing show. Oh and Fuller likes ribs, and likes to buy you a lot of beers and call you a ##### if you can't down them...despite your girl giving you "you better not ####in drink that" glares across the table. Awesome dude

 We should be able to convert this video to something more innernet friendly, if necessary
I'd rather not let this slip out mainstream if it can be avoided. I'll talk to the guy and get his opinion on how he wants me to handle distribution but I may shy from making it TOO easy to distribute via the interwebs if that's his desire. If he doesn't give a #### then yeah, we'll get it online. If he does then I'll ship a few DVDs to the core fans here and they can pass a few on as well.

That's fine, either way. If you want me to convert it I will, thought it may be just as easy for you to do it yourself. Looking forward to it either way(I'm a regular in this thread who once put together some live sets for everybody)
