• Beer cans are $5 now, and they also have guys walking around with icechests selling 16oz bottles for $7• No problem sneaking in a flask….for you vodka/rum drinkers, you’re allowed to bring in 1 bottle of water, so you will have no problem just sneaking it in like that if you want
I thought I read the water had to be "factory-sealed". I assume they're not actually checking that.

Correct...I've never seen anyone check a water bottle before. They do however check the tailgating chairs...so don't attempt to hide anything in there. Flask in the small of my back is the way to go IMO

For anyone interested, do me a favor and PM me your email address (icon I already have yours), and I'll send y'all a map of the spot I'm trying to set up at with some more detail. CCF - I've got a few buddies helping me out with the set up, so no need to get out there early if you don't want to. Side note - PJ is probably the "heaviest" band that has every played the main stage at Jazz Fest, so I fully expect the crowd to be blown away. I was getting really pumped for the show when I was out there yesterday. Also, they're on the schedule for 2 hours, but last year I think Dave Matthews actually went over by 20 minutes or so....would expect the same out of PJ.
:lmao: thansk GB. The GF is really gonna want to wander around and check everything out. Are you guys going to be staying at the main stage all day? I'm going to work on a flask of some sort as well. Would be funny to take in one of those large quart-sized bottles but I gotta think they'd check those out. Should we bring our own chairs or you guys have everything you need to stake out the area for PJ? I presume we'll be standing for the whole PJ set? Thanks again for going through this effort GB. In our "Group" It will only be The GF and I... POSSIBLY my old college roomie (NOLA Native & Current Resident). but I'm not sure if he'll be with us that day or for PJ.

1. Bring your own chairs.....we'll do our best to secure the "area", but aren't able to provide chairs (other than our own). I will definitely be standing for the whole PJ set - assume most people will be, but again this is a huge local festival to, so there will likely be people sitting. There is a "no chairs" area that we willbe pretty close to, so that is also an option.2. The set up will be at the main stage all day, but I'll definitiely be walking around during the day. Galactic comes on right before PJ and they put on a really solid show. Will fill you in on the details in the email......looking like there's gonna be a lot of people there with me, so we should have a pretty decent size area.

New Orleans, LA Weather Advisories, Watches & Warnings

COASTAL FLOOD STATEMENT

in effect until Friday, Apr 30, 9:00 PM

A PERSISTENT MODERATE TO STRONG ONSHORE FLOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP THURSDAY AND CONTINUE UNTIL THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. ADDITIONALLY...THE ASTRONOMICAL TIDE CYCLE WILL BE AT LARGE SPRING TIDE RANGES THIS WEEKEND. THESE CONDITIONS WILL COMBINE TO PRODUCE UNUSUALLY HIGH WATER LEVELS THAT MAY CAUSE COASTAL FLOODING OUTSIDE THE HURRICANE PROTECTION LEVEE SYSTEMS.

WHILE IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO DETAIL...TIDES MAY REACH 2 TO 3 FEET ABOVE NORMAL LEVELS AT SOME LOCATIONS DUE TO THE PERSISTENCE OF ONSHORE FLOW. INUNDATION WILL BE MOST NOTABLE DURING THE HIGH TIDE PORTIONS OF THE DAILY TIDE CYCLE.

PERSONS ALONG THE COAST SHOULD CLOSELY MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS REGARDING THIS POTENTIAL EPISODE OF COASTAL FLOODING. BE PREPARED TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTIONS TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY IF COASTAL FLOOD WATCHES AND WARNINGS ARE ISSUED LATER THIS WEEK AND OVER THE WEEKEND.

FWIW, it was supposed to be an 80% chance of rain last Saturday, and it ended up pouring on Friday....which left Saturday muddy, but no rain.

Fingerscrossed. I've ordered the GF and I full rain suits and we've got big mud boots so we're good to go no matter what the conditions. She's thinking about bringing her DSLR with telephoto lens. how far back will our spots be for PJ? Ballpark is fine.

As a 30 year veteran of Jazz Fest, let me give some of you guys the best tips I have learned.

1- They don't pat people down at Jazz Fest. If they start this year, I advise using the zip lock bag idea. My wife always brings in a pint of rum and has never had a problem.

2- You are allowed to bring in a collapseble 12 pack ice chest. Fill it with ice but nothing else. Ice is hard to get once you are in. Also, every person is allowed one 16 ounce bottle of water.

3- I sneak in six beers every year. Wear a loose shirt and pair of shorts. Once you are in, put them in your cooler. Beers are going up to $5.00 this year and that is insane. You used to throw a hundred down and get a case. Now it's $120.00 for a case. Not doing it this year.

4- Bring your chairs. It's nice to have them if it rains or if it's sunny all day. I bungy cord them to my cooler. I have an old table cloth I bring in case I want to leave base camp and check out someone else.

5- Get there early. Gates open at 9:00 ot 10:00. I'm there for 10:00. Once you get there, go directly to wear you want to sit. I advise that you sit, if facing the main stage, back right near the track. If you are close to the stage or left of the stage where the booths are, it's hard to get in our out with large crowds. Once Galicta comes on, the crowds are going to be close to 60,000 to 85,000 for a band like Pearl Jam. You don't have to be near the stage. They have big screens and the music sounds much better in the back. The port-o-lets and beer stands are on the track so it's easy to get back and forth. It's a short walk if you're back right and you don't miss anything. Also, the people back there are very cool. People will watch your chairs and ice chest so you don't have to worry about them.

6- Always use the track if you are going to walk to the other side of the grounds. It's quick and easy if you are in a hurry. If it's early in the day, walking through the middle isn't bad. Later in the day it's almost impossible. Use the track when it's time to leave.

7- Bring an umbrella and a pancho. Also bring and extra shirt or buy one there. It looks like it's going to rain Saturday.

8- Make friends. It's the funniest place to people watch and make friends. A friend of mine keeps a journal going back twenty years of the bands she saw, food she ate, and people she has met. Good idea if you want to remeber it. I can barely remember who I saw last year.

9- Try and be discreet if you smoke the hooch. The cops don't care as long as you aren't flaunting it. I've never seen anyone get arrested that was being discreet.

10- Bring a flag. If you're from out of town, bring your state flag or college one. Or just make one. Part of the experience of Jazz Fest is all the flags. Be original. You also use your flag as referrence to know how to get back to your camp. If you don't bring, always remeber where you are at by the flags around you.

11- Try not to buy tickets from scalpers. They had some problems with fake tickets last year. Chances are you won't have a problem, but you never know.

12- Sunscreen. Bring it and use it. There is no shade once you are out there for the main shows. The Grand Stand and Gospel tent are a way to get out of the sun but there isn't much else.

These are my best tips and I hope they help you. I saw Dave Mathews before Katrina and there was close to 100,000 people there watching him. I don't think it will be that big, but who knows. I love when it's rainy and muddy. Beer, rain, and mud make women do funny things. Enjoy the Fest.

They supposedly have free shuttle service. Are you staying there?
Nope staying at another place. No biggie. May head over to meet yo guys and take shuttle too. We'll see.
I'll let you know when I get a definite answer on the shuttle. If they won't/can't run us up there, we can split a cab. Tell gf to bring tamales.
Done! She IS mexican after all ;)
:yucky: I thought she was Korean. I just want her to bring some from where ever the hell we went after the EV show.

So is it Icon Fuller TF and Myself?
That's what it looks like as far as FBG goes. I expect a large crowd of people that will be in my party (around 20-30 or so depending on the weather), and a bunch of people are getting there early with me, so I don't expect a problem as far as securing an area.PM me your email address so i can get you some specifics.
