A couple weeks back I forgot tickets went on sale and I ended up with 'back of stage' direct center. At first, I hesitated, but I am thinking these are actually going to be better than most seats because I will be directly above the band with kick ### sound board sound. Has anyone ever had these seats?

That was pretty sick. Ed rocked a Walter #34 all night. Need to go rest...details when I get back to the main land.
Man it freaking sucks coming back from a vacation.

So like I mentioned earlier, got upgraded to the Exec Suite upon check in at the Milan Hilton. Unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to use the room quite like we could have stateside, usually being closer to the venue and with other people you know (or hell, even randoms). It would have been an amazing pre-party location. Three total balcony's, one on each side...a bedroom, two bathrooms, plenty of seating and open space in the main area, and a "Executive" table that had like 12 chairs around it. We got into the room around 2pm and the 10C ticket pickup started at 1pm, but I was never planning on being at the venue that early. We trained in from Venice that morning and we were right on schedule as the train station was a block from the hotel. Geared up for about a hour and during that time decided I just wanted to take a cab to San Siro Stadio. There were rumblings in the forum about how to get there via Metro (trains), and the Concierge gave me the same spiel (which included the green line to the red line and don't get on the red line the wrong way and then another 15 minute walk after the trains). My overall experience on the trip with trains made me just want to avoid them. Not taking the trains there though did cause issues post-show.

I'll get this out of the way next...Mrs. Bobcat10 is not really a Pearl Jam fan and she accompanied me to the show. She thinks I'm crazy and need to grow up, etc etc...I'm sure some of you may get that, and if not, I still know I'm not alone. Leading up to the trip, as you may know how women get, she'd get mad at me about something totally stupid and say I'm not going to the show you can sell the ticket I can do other things in Milan blah blah blah. So I was fully expecting a meltdown at some point, possibly ruining the night or whatever.

So we cab it to the venue and I'm totally calm knowing I made the right decision...it was like 17 euros and no hassle. Early entry for 10C GA "Inner Circle" was 3:40. We finally find the 10C ticket distribution point right around that time. That was originally the plan, then I let my guard down and said we could go later, but then during the trip we found out they were going to show the Italy/Costa Rica World Cup match on the PJ side screens and the main screen in the stadium, which started at 6:00. So we both agreed that would be an experience in itself and decided to revert back to the original plan. The stadium is enormous looking on the outside and old looking but cool. No line whatsoever to pick up my tickets and wristbands (needed for the Inner Circle, directly in front of the stage, barricaded all around keeping out all the other GA people on the soccer field). Hop in the early entry line that started moving as we were walking up. Got to the checkpoint and I had a bag of 2 waters, 2 shirts, and my glasses case. The guy said something about my water, so I pulled one out and after a couple tries figured out he wanted the cap only. Luckily he only saw one bottle because that would have sucked to have had to open both waters at that point. When you get to places like this, odds of Italians knowing much English get drastically worse.

We walk in essentially underneath the main concourse and funneled onto the raised floor of the soccer field. Again, enormous looking. Immediately notice a merch stand off to the left and decided to hit that first over securing a spot in the circle, which looked scattered still. Mrs. Bobcat is being nice to this point and helped nudge up to the front of the merch line after about 10 minutes of two workers helping people in no orderly fashion. I was getting frustrated. They also did NOT have the awesome looking soccer jersey like in Amsterdam (if you didn't see it, orange shirt, Amsterdam symbol on the front, a "10" on the back like their jerseys, and I think it said Pearl Jam above the number). I was all about that for Italy in blue, but no such luck, not sure why they didn't have it. After about 30 minutes at the ####### stand, I walk away 57 Euros lighter with a poster in a tube and the blue PJ Milan shirt that only has a shield on the front. Everything else was retro or about the tour...I just wanted something about the Milan show, and I'm not all about busy shirts to begin with, so it fit my style.

On to the pit we go, find a nice spot essentially in front of where Jeff would be about mid way back. Mrs. B plops down on one of the shirts we brought specifically for that purpose...good thing too because the floor was terribly dirty and she was wearing white jeans. I grab a beer from one of the Italian vendors that constantly platooned the pit with drinks and food, even during the show, and sit down on one of the bags we had. It's hot, real hot, the sun is beating down, I'm sweating bullets (as I seemed to do all trip and all show, luckily I had a solid sweat towel for the show), and there is a long wait for the soccer match to start, let alone the show. I tell my wife about the time in Pittsburgh 2000 where we saw Ed do some solo preshow tunes (Trouble, Dead Man, and a couple others) and how great that would be here. Did a scout of the GA area for food and bathroom accessibility...and there was no need to ever hit up the concourse.

The TVs turn on right around 6pm and the players are starting to take the field for the World Cup match. The crowd starts to get a little excited, although more tame than I thought. As the players line up for the two countries anthems, BOOM, the TVs turn off, and madness ensues. Vedder is walking onto the stage in a legit blue Italy soccer jersey, #10. Grab our belongings and flood forward with the crowd. Porch, solo style...and it was fantastic. Great early energy from Ed and the crowd that was there...you could tell we were in for a great night. My video of that is also sweet and got some good pics as well. We stay where we are, Mrs. Bobcat sitting down again and holding the spot, NEVER moving the entire night, total trooper. Before halftime I go buy a cold hot dog for each of us and my 2nd and final beer of the night. I decide my chances of a perfect evening drastically increase the more sober I am...and this will turn out to probably be the most sober I've ever been at a PJ show. Italy ends up losing the match, but just as if the game was right there, they are all whistling and clapping when it ended. In the US, we'd be booing and cursing lol.

We're getting closer...the crowd is filling in nicely in the stands...we're standing now, literally 10-15 heads from the stage, or at least the front barricade. Easily the closest I've ever been because row 15 or so would definitely be deeper than that. Was a little pissed because it seemed like we were in the tall dudes section with a 6'4ish monster in front of Mrs. B., a tall dude next to me and a few others. I tell her as soon as the show starts, we'll try to move a bit left. I keep telling her 10 or 20 minutes as certain things are happening (soundcheck Ed's mic, 3 spotlight people climb the ladders on each side of stage, video guy sets up shop right in front of the stage, Ed's wine bottle is placed, and finally the setlists are brought out). There's only one song I want to hear at this point, I'm certain most of you would agree.

To Be Cont....

was DIRECTLY behind the band, row 1 (was row 15 or something, but was the first row of seats behind the stage) for a show at the ACC in Toronto... was phenomenal, actually... would gladly take the seats again

Bobcat- Bobcat-Suspense is killing me and I feel your pain with the Mrs. I am really hoping she maintained for the night.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Yep, they did it. Release opener, my favorite one. Normally I'm not taking a million pics or videos, but being where we were I came home with alot, and Release was obviously one of the best one's. Amazing crowd singalong in Milan...Ed didn't take long to let us take over as he gave us both "Ooooohhhh" parts after the first verse. Here is a decent video I found... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KTY-qFHdAo

I'm numb at this point just one song in, but as I mentioned earlier we did manage to veer away from the monster in front of us as they took the stage. Nothingman, always pleased to hear...and then Sirens (good crowd at the end), one of the best off the new album. Off to a great start, and then they pull a twist and throw Black into the clean up spot. Looks like it's been early in a few shows after Milan, but it wasn't in Amsterdam and I don't recall such placement in the last round of shows. People are really excited around me and I have to video this one, which turns out to be a great one. Crowd was top notch again "I'm SPINNING" and other parts. We even kept the dododododododo's going after the song.

So now I'm ready to get it going, one of my favorite parts of any PJ show, after the great start. They smash into GO and the place erupts. Near perfect for me as I love Go and they really fired through this one. I look at the wife, who started recording on her phone during Black, and somehow she manages to keep it going even as they segue into Do The Evolution. She got all the way to the Hallelujah part and then stopped...pretty nuts. DTE was real loud and there was some unbelievably great crowd chanting. Corduroy, enough said. They really turned up the heat.

Time to cool off as Ed speaks some Italian and they move into Lightning Bolt. This song has grown on me alot and I think it's pretty sweet live. Then after MYM, what might have been the rarest song of show --> Pilate! Killer tune. Before the show I noticed a sign in front of me, and there were not many surprisingly, requesting MFC. I wonder if he noticed it during the preshow Porch or if it was just luck for that person. He threw in a "little car" reference which I don't think is the normal words...but regardless was pretty funny to me because people drive small ### cars in Italy, probably to navigate the narrow streets. It was one of the first things that stood out to me in our first stop, Rome.

I think you guys get the picture here...loud engaged crowd that rocked all night. Panning around the crowd, whether Ed called for the lights or not, was pretty magical. I will say it wasn't one of Ed's best shows vocally, but it was real hot out, I'm sure uncomfortable for him. He was also limping very noticeably during the 2nd encore and he'd favor one leg when he jumped. Didn't notice it all show, but there were rumblings that he injured his knee before this show. Also, I'm really glad I won my 2nd choice of GA over seats in the bowl. It enhanced the experience even more...and I wouldn't hesitate going GA again at a show. Thought I was beyond those days, but it was fun as hell.

Here are a few more highlights:

Even Flow - ummm, am I typing this right? Yes, this is my piss song normally where usually I get back during the solo. But I really did enjoy this one, probably because of the crazy Italians, and the solo was excellent by Michaelangelo McCready.

Elderly - HELLO...well that was pretty cool.

Just Breathe - I believe Ed dedicated it to his wife, who was stage side, and he said they met in Milan (or Italy, I'm hazy here) which I didn't know. Mrs. Bobcat actually likes this song too...and yes, prosopis, she was amazing the entire show. Never wanted to move back or leave early, very pleasing to me.

Daughter (WMA/Let It Go/It's OK) - As WMA winds down, Ed gets a guitar so I know It's OK is a possibly. Then, the It's OK guitar riff started. Goldmine (although in the end I've seen better), I'm fired up....then he starts singing some lines I've never heard before. Cool, I just heard some new cover I didn't know or he went improv on me. Again, this is during the It's OK riff. Not until I saw a bunch of stupid articles posted on Facebook and people complaining like Ed sold out or whatever did I know what that was. I must be out of the loop or something. Anyways, it was literally like 20-30 sec I'd say, they didn't cover the song (at least I don't consider it a cover). Most importantly, there was alot of family/kids on the side of the stage, and definitely Ed's two girls. People need to chillax. It was for them, not for you (no pun intended).

Happy Birthday - Not on the official setlist, but we sang HB to Cam's wife. Matt came down from his perch and slow danced with her over by Stone. Totally Cool.

Better Man - For all the greatness of the crowd that night, there are a few tunes they can't do, and this was one of them. In general, they were great chanters and loud, yet sometimes pretty off, singers. Didn't ruin anything, actually made it better since it was a bit different.

STBC>Lukin - This was the most insane part of GA experience because people actually started moshing just to the left of me. The one dude was still next to me and he did a great job shielding the madness. People not moshing were really into it too...it was a sweet couple of minutes there.

RITFW - Normally not a highlight for me although it's a great tune. But Mike didn't play guitar at all during the song....he took pictures - of the crowd, the band, and Matt's son who WAS playing guitar during the entire song. Not sure how old he is, teenager I'd say. I think he just played rhythm, but it was awesome just because he seemed so awed by the experience. Was probably pretty special for Matt as well.

YL closes out the show and then we head for the exit. We have no idea at this point where to go since we took a taxi to the show. Decide to just follow the massive crowd heading one way and we end up at the station where the train is. We head down the stairs underground and it's chaos. I have no idea what to do so we decide to look for a taxi back on the street. We got in a line but the taxi's were few and far in between so we gave up on that after a while. Started walking using the map on my phone...and walking and walking and walking...hoping to see a taxi along the way. It's over an hour after the show ended and we're getting to some sketchy part of town...you definitely know this when you see a couple prostitutes and people on the street looking at you a little weird. We certainly didn't fit the part. Mrs. B. is starting to get worried, there really are not any PJ people walking near us anymore. Then by the grace of Vedder, a cab drives by us. Since we hadn't seen one in so long, we didn't notice it til it passed us...and Mrs. B. sprints after it like I've never seen before and tracks it down at a stop light. She saves the day...we were still real far away from the hotel. Hilarious ending to a great night.

Hopefully part 2 wasn't a letdown for you guys...I could have went on and on about the show (looks like I kinda did)...but it was fun to share what I did with you. A show in Europe was always something I've dreamed about, I guess a "bucket list" type thing, and it didn't disappoint (not like PJ ever does)...it was an amazing experience.

Sounds awesome Bobcat!!!! Glad you had a good time. It is always cool when the wife takes one for the team. She sounds like a keeper.

Awesome review Bobcat. Seeing them in Italy seems like it would be the ultimate PJ experience since they love playing there so much. The Milan bootleg from 2000 is still one of my favorites.

Yep, the Fila Forum boot is awesome. That was my top go-to leading up to the trip.

Great writeup... and LOVE that they're tinkering with Release as an opener again. My first show (Mar 1994) they opened with it. Was GA and had waited all day so I was front and center on the rail. Indoor show so the purple backdrop slowly fading in revealed the silhouettes of the guys on stage as the opening notes rang in. I damn near started bawling right then and there. Have always wanted to catch another release opener as, IMO, it's the PERFECT way to set the stage and get the crowd all on the same page.

Just sent your video to the GF (who'm I'm taking to the MEmphis show in October) explaining that we're hoping for the same opener. It will be her first "solo" PJ Show. She saw them with me at Jazzfest in New Orleans with GB TigerFan a few years back and ,while it was a great show, it was nothing compared to the non-festival shows IMO.

Anybody get their annual fan club pack this year? I see my account just renewed and it is being shipped. Just wondering if there is anything I should be particularly excited abou this year.

Good buddy of mine (Rodd, a drummer and son of Blues Legend Bobby Blue Bland) got Ice Bucket challenged by Matt Cameron.

He promptly challenged a host of other musicians:
Legendary drummer Tony Coleman

Patrick Dodd (mutual buddy)
Chad Smith (drummer for chili peppers and good buddy of his)*

Ex PJ drummers Jack Irons and Dave Krusen

* Sidenote: Chad invited Rodd out to a RHCP show in Little Rock (3hr drive) on Chad's birthday. Rodd invited me but I had to decline. Turns out he apparently watched the show from sidestage, the partied backstage after. Yeah.... that'll go down on the list of "life's regrets"

He's been talking about getting me backstage for the Memphis PJ show later this year but we'll see...

Anybody going to the Bridge School Benefit with PJ and Soundgarden? Tickets go on sale in 1/2 hour on live nation.

Have two ten club tickets for PJ in Memphis available for sale at face.....

You know the drill...dont know where they are (reserved seats, not pit), but they're likely quite good.

SLBD, you still coming to town? Inbox me your cell. Doing dinner and drinks beforehand that night.

Really enjoyed the mccready interview with jack black. I dont know anything about or from them outside of 7 nation army but maybe ill give some a listen

I don't think Jack Black has anything to do with Seven Nation Army. Thinking of Jack White?

My buddy ran into him in StL at the Arch. They talked for a bit I guess. He did ask Mike to play Release that night, since he's like 0/7 on one of his favorite songs. Didn't happen....but they have not played it yet this leg....I'm thinking in Detroit my buddy will finally get lucky. It was a cross off again for the 2nd time this leg at ACL according to my buddy, so hoping Memphis doesn't ruin it.

I'll be at Joe Louis on Thurs. At first I was thinking it might get a grand send off like the Spectrum did (just not with 4 shows), until I realized the new Wings arena isn't opening until 2017. I thought it was opening next year. Still, The Joe isn't neccesarily being demo'd, they don't know what will become of that property yet. So it's a pretty historical sports arena, and arena in general. PJ hasn't played Detroit in a decade. The band feeds off of places like this and I think it will be a good one. Next time they play Detroit, assuming that happens, it would have to be at the new arena. Hopefully they pay homage to the history of the arena, since it could be turned into a fishbowl or parking lot, and put on a show that stands out compared to the others this leg!

I love release. First time I saw them (Memphis 1994) they opened with it.

My first show was 3 days before yours! CSU Convo. Still one of the few shows with a song that debuted and then never played again.

Awesome! :hifive:

new Wings arena isn't opening until 2017.
they just broke ground on it last weekend or so.
Ya I'm way behind on my Detroit news clippings. Are you confirming approx 2017? Seems about right if they just broke ground.
some good info in here: http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20140924/NEWS/140929929/work-starts-thursday-on-red-wings-arena-details-on-funding

supposed to open late 2017, probably in start for the 2017-2018 NHL season.
