Official Pick Eight Thread (#8---non ppr) (1 Viewer)

100% of drafts I've done of late have had Brees, Rodgers, and Manning all go off the board between 1.9 and 2.4. You cannot plan on taking one of those three guys with pick 2.5. Between 2.6 and 3.7, Schaub, Romo, and Brady have also all been taken in 100% of drafts. So, you cannot plan on going QB in rds 3/4 unless you're comfortable with Favre or Rivers, both of whom will be gone by 5.8.So, what do you guys think is the best strategy here?1 - Take your top QB at 1.8.2 - Reach for Romo, Schaub, or Brady at 2.5.3 - Wait until the 3rd, see if Rivers and Favre are both still available. Since 3 teams behind you already took QBs, wait until round 4 and grab whichever of those two guys is left.4 - Wait until round 5 or 6 and put together a QBBC with Manning, Cutler, Palmer, etc. paired with a guy like Alex Smith, Roethlisberger, etc.
I like #4 more and more unless Romo/Shaub is there in the 3rd.

In this scenario I wait until round 4 and draft Rivers. He's starting to become the value QB in my opinion. I don't think Vincent Jackson's holdout hurts him as much as people are leading on.If he doesn't make it to you then obviously you're going the QBBC approach. Cutler could be nice, but he plays the Jets in week 16 so you might want to pair him up with Henne who plays the Lions. In a big enough league I'd be ok rostering 3 QBs and a committee of Cutler/Henne/Stafford. Considering we've missed on a top QB if we go this route we should be set at the main positions. Just know how long you can wait on a guy like Cutler. If Rivers is there:Randy MossCalvin JohnsonChris WellsPhilip RiversHakeem NicksMarion BarberOwen Danielsor if he's gone:Randy MossCalvin JohnsonChris WellsRonnie BrownHakeem NicksBrent CelekJay CutlerThat second team could be pretty nasty in a FLEX league if Cutler hits. Those top 3 and Nicks are pretty much set for me. I love all of those guys if I can get my hands on them.

So, what do you guys think is the best strategy here?

1 - Take your top QB at 1.8.

2 - Reach for Romo, Schaub, or Brady at 2.5.

3 - Wait until the 3rd, see if Rivers and Favre are both still available. Since 3 teams behind you already took QBs, wait until round 4 and grab whichever of those two guys is left.

If I have the 8th pick, I'm waiting for a QB until rounds 5-7, maybe later.1.8- AJ maybe, Moss/Turner/Sjax/

2.5- Calvin/Roddy/Wayne/Austin (whoever you like)/Greene/Mendenhall

3.8- Colston/Grant/Thomas/Sidney Rice/Cedric Benson

4.5- Hakeem Nicks/Crabtree/Steve Smith/Forte/JStew/Dallas Clark

The first 4 rounds are crazy deep. You could get Kolb in the 6th, Flacco in the 7th, Rivers maybe in the 5th.

I just did a mock and tried something different but am very happy about the results:

Moss

Mendenhall (could've had DeAngelo/Charles/Benson(reach?) or Grant at RB or Jennings/Fitz/Marshall at WR)

P Thomas (could've had McCoy/Wells/Best at RB or Boldin/Rice/Ocho at WR)

Addai (went for a THIRD RB here since I love Addai's value and felt that the drop off after him was steeper than at WR).

Crabtree (could've had MJW or Ward here as well)

Bowe (like him as a WR3 this year for some reason)

SMoss (another guy I've usually avoided but with Shannahan...maybe)

Eli Manning

Roethlisberger

LT

So, it's the first time I've gone WR/RB/RB/RB/WR/WR/WR and I'm feeling so much better about that team since I have a few better options at RB than I would've if I had done my usual and wait til the 5th or 6th round for my 3rd RB.

Right now, I like 4,1,3,2---in that order. What's good about four is that it gives you a chance IF Manning falls to #17 or IF Brady/Schaub fall to #32. That being said---i'm still not 100% sure what i'm going to do come draft day.**(pick numbers based on 12-team league).
Seems like Favre is being drafted in the 5th round in a lot of drafts, would you be comfortable starting him every week if you, say, took Moss/Mendenhall/P. Thomas/Ochocinco in the first 4 rounds?

fwiw, as I mentioned about 4 posts up, I grabbed Eli then Roeth in 8/9 and I feel as comfortable with that QB combo as I currently do with Farve and his ankle in the 5th round. That also gives me a chance to grab another decent RB in the 5th (instead of Farve) since I'm not totally comfortable with a Mendenhall/Thomas combo.

Evil...I'm in a very similar boat....but between Minny's schedule, Rice's hip, and Harvin's head---i would pass on favre at 5.8. Like i said about round 2 and 3---i think you take a QB if he drops to you; otherwise, i would stick to the plan and wait a few more rounds. If we are gonna start reaching a little in round 5, maybe we should just go ahead grab Romo at 17 and be done with it?
I'm considering it. My league is TD-heavy (50 yds/pt passing, 20 yds/pt rush, 15 yds/pt receiving, all TDs 6, no PPR, no TE required) so I'm contemplating Romo at 17. His ADP on CBS now is 23, so it's not an enormous reach, and his VBD is #10 in the DD. I could grab Turner or Moss in the 1st, Romo in the second, Pierre Thomas in the third, Ocho Cinco or Addai in the 4th, etc. Of course, then I think if I'm going to do that, maybe I just take Brees or rodgers at #8 overall and draft the receiver in round 2. What would you rather have - Moss/Romo to start or Brees/Rodgers and Calvin Johnson/Miles Austin?

I picked 8th in a 12 team league last night. I was worried about the slot, but inevitibly people made mistakes and folks I wanted slid a bunch. A couple of guys I wanted got drafted 1 pick in front of me too and left me scrambling. Arian Foster went in the 4th. Live drafts never work out like mocks, which is probably in the favor of those of us stuck @ the 8 hole.

Leauge: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D; no ppr, 4 pts pass td, everything else is standard

1.8: Andre Johnson. I was sweating. Top 6 RBs went in the first 6 picks. Fortunately, the guy picking 7th made my day by taking Aaron Rodgers.

2.5: Deangelo Williams! Holy crap, don't know how he slipped. I had been thinking Mendy or Greene, but they both went to the guy picking 12th. 4 QBs off the board before this pick somehow let DWill slide.

3.8: Brandon Marshall. I really didn't want to take a 2nd WR here when we only have to start 2, but he was the best player on my board at this point, by a decent margin.

4.5: LeSean McCoy. I'm happy with him as my RB2 in the 4th. Could've been worse I guess.

5.8: Jason Witten. I think he is going to find the endzone more this year, so I was happy to take him here.

6.5: Ahmad Bradshaw. RBs were getting scarce, happy to start him @ my flex spot though. Everyone has a QB but me at this point, so I figure I'll be firing up a QBBC.

7.8: Michael Bush. Again, trying to get some useable RBs since you can start 3.

8.5: Carson Palmer. Time to start filling out my QBBC.

9.8: Malcom Floyd. Backup WR, he will play 2 weeks only.

10.5: Ben Roethlisberger. Yay, I backed myself into QB hell! Unfortunately we don't get points for sexual assualt.

I don't remember how the rest went, but I also ended up with Alex Smith rounding out my QBBC, Correll Buckhalter and Leon Washington as flyer HBs, Devin Thomas as my last round homer pick, Ghost @ Kicker and San Diego D.

The rate my team thing on this site likes my team. I think I'll be able to cobble together decent QB production between those 3. My WRs are awesome and my RBs are better than they should've been thanks to DWill sliding to me in the 2nd. I'm set at TE. Who cares about Kicker and D? All in all, it worked out better than I thought it would from 8.

The problem with round 1 is that its the hardest for leaguemates to F up. When you're sitting @ 8, you really need someone in front of you to bite at QB, or you are left with some really difficult decisions.

I love that team HULK. Can't believe Marshall was there at 3.8. I've never seen him slide past 3.1, usually he's gone middle 2nd. Great value right there.

Just finished drafting a re-draft 12 team, PPR team. Our starting line up is 1 QB; 2 RB; 2 WR; WR/RB FLex; TE; D: K and we have 18 total spots on our roster

I got very lucky too that someone decided to pick Steven Jackson with the 6th pick and then Frank Gore went at 7, leaving me with Andre Johnson.

My draft went like this:

1.08 Andre Johnson

2.05 Reggie Wayne

3.08 Jamaal Charles

4.05 Marques Colston

5.08 Knowshon Moreno

6.05 Jay Cutler

7.08 Clinton Portis

8.05 Caddy Williams

9.08 Matt Ryan QB Falcons

10.05 Big Ben QB Steelers

11.08 Heath Miller TE Steelers

12.05 Greg Olsen TE Chicago

13.08 Chicago Bears D

14.05 Demaryus Thomas WR Broncos

15.08 Chris Chambers WR Chiefs

16.05 Indy D

17.08 Adam Vinateiri

QB: Jay Cutler; Big Ben; Matt Ryan

RB: Knowshon Moreno; Jamaal Charles; Clinton Portis; Caddy Williams

WR: Andre Johnson; Reggie Wayne; Marques Colston; Chris Chambers; Demaryus Thomas

TE: Heath Miller; Greg Olsen

D: Chi; Indy

K: Adam Vinateiri

===========================

Some key notes:

- I had decided to go with WR with my first pick, thinking I would go Randy Moss. But when Andre fell, I had to go for him.

- Going into the draft, I had decided that if I do not pick a QB early, I would target Cutler and then surround him with QBs that let me pick match ups. I believe I have accomplished this with Big Ben and Matt Ryan

- I was targetting Jamaal Charles in the 3rd round going into the draft. He was going to be my home run swing

- I was targetting Clinton Portis later in the draft.... I just think there is too much value to not go after him in the 7th or later rounds. Since my RB situation was shaky, I might have reached in the 7th, but I know a couple of folks in my league love Clinton and I did not want to let him hang around too much after the 7th.

- I had decided to go later with 2 TEs rather than go for a Gates or Vernon Davis or Dallas Clark early. I was the last to pick a starting TE, but getting both Greg Olsen and Heath Miller thrills me to no end. With Santonio Holmes gone, Heath Miller will be targetted a lot this year by the Steelers IMO.

- I had targetted the Bears D going into the draft since we get pretty good points for D performance. Adding Urlacher and Peppers is going to make this Bears D pretty good this year IMO.

Finally, I was shocked to see Marques Colston in the 4th round staring at me. While my initial plan was to go after a RB in the 4th (either Knowshon or Stewart or Forte), seeing Colston as my 3rd WR to go with Andre and Reggie Wayne was too difficult to pass up on in a PPR league. Now, I have 3 WRs, each of which have had a 100 catch season in the last 3 years, and each of which has 10 to 12 TD capability in them every year.

I know the RB situation is shaky and I am hoping Knowshon gets healthy soon. But with my WRs, I do not need a lot from my RBs week to week IMO.

Thoughts?????

12 Team - PPR - 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (QB/RB/WR/TE)

Key here is that you can play 2 QB's

1.08 - Frank Gore (Rogers and Brees went 5/6, Rice 7)

2.05 - Tony Romo (Manning and Brady went 10/14)

3.08 - Brandon Marshall (shocked he was there)

4.05 - Wes Welker (risky, but it is ppr)

5.08 - Mike Sims-Walker (to back up if Welker craps out)

6.05 - Justin Forsett

7.08 - Jay Cutler

8.05 - Arian Foster (between him and M. Bush)

9.08 - Clinton Ports (risk, but could not pass up)

10.05 - Johnny Knox

11.08 - Jerome Harrison (could not pass up)

12.05 - Devin Aromashodu (lock up 2 Bears WR, hope 1 hits)

13.08 - Matt Moore (not thrilled here)

14.05 - Jermaine Gresham (TE pickings were very slim, missed Zach Miller by 1 pick in the 9th)

15.08 - Larry Johnson (insurance, almost took Jacoby Jones)

16.05 - Bengals D

17.08 - Joe Nedney

Thoughts: RB2 is a bit of a gamble, need one to hit. Might wind up trading WR depth for TE.

I'm in a 10 team non PPR redraft (QB 6 pts). WR/WR is working out really well. In mocks one of these three almost always fall: AJ, Gore or Turner; because someone reachs on Brees/Rogers. More often than not its AJ--who I think is a steal at 8... so my team looks like:

WR Andre Johnson

WR Miles Austin (could have had Calvin J/ etc.. need to research who I want here)

RB Cedric Benson

QB Matt Schaub (every time in Rnd 4 one of Brady/Romo/Schaub/Rivers is there--usually 2 w/Rivers taken last)

RB Jonathan Stewart

RB Joseph Addai

RB Ricky Williams (sometimes go WR here)

TE Tony Gonzalez

WR Percy Harvin (he slipped here... usually SD #2 WR)

WR Derrick Mason

RB Chester Taylor

K Garrett Hartley

DEF NO Saints

RB Laurence Maroney

WR Mohamed Massaquoi

Obviously if I get Gore/Turner I change it up a bit... Usually I still go WR in the second--getting a top WR... and still go Benson and a top QB in the 3rd 4th... but then I load up on WR more in the middle instead of grabbing Addai,Stewart, Williams I'm looking WR.

As with my team from the real draft, be careful with those "one of these guys is there" assumptions...all of the big 7 were gone at 3.02 in the real thing, and I ended up with WR/WR/WR/TE (AJ, Moss, White, Finley) because I kept seeing RBs and QBs not fall, and my top 3 wideouts all did.

Just be ready to change plans, because I thought I had Moss in round 1, and AJ fell. So from my very first pick the draft completely changed for me from every single mock I did. Be ready to roll with the punches.

Totally agree.. I've been mocking at different sites to see how things fall out differently (and they do). ESPN's mocks blew me away... ADP had little meaning there... people took whoever they wanted whenever they wanted... I had the same thing happen w/RBs you had w/QB... they didn't draft ANY WR's and only 2 QB's through 3 rounds... picking at 8 I got AJ and Moss, then Manning in the 3rd, but the RB's I expected to be there after going WR/WR (Benson, etc) were gone... The backs in the fourth round have potential (Addai, etc) but I really wanted a solid workhouse like Benson/Greene, etc.

I had my draft last night. I'm still feeling the effects of all the beer. :moneybag:

My plan from this spot as I've been advocating in this thread was to acquire studs at the WR, TE, and QB positions and hopefully hit on a couple of running backs late, but few of the RBs I was targeting were falling to my spots in the draft so I'm a little weaker there than I'd like to be.

The league is 6 points for all TDs, .5 PPR, and a flex. We're also a third round reversal.

Randy Moss

Peyton Manning

Chris Wells

Antonio Gates

Dwayne Bowe

Marion Barber

Percy Harvin

Lee Evans

Laurence Maroney

Eli Manning

Devin Hester

Jon Carlson

Leon Washington

Matthew Stafford

Laurent Robinson

Tashard Choice

I was able to get all of the players I was targeting in the first 6 rounds other than Bowe. Ronnie Brown went one pick before me there. I'm very high on Chris Wells so obviously I'm banking on him anchoring my RB corps. Having integral cogs on the best offenses in the NFL in Manning, Moss, Gates, Barber, and Harvin should make me a threat every week.

Waiting and hoping for a QB to fall to me in the 4th would have been a mistake. None of the big 7 QBs made it to my pick there, although it was the 4.8. Schaub actually went at the 4.5. I think it's a risky proposition to wait if you want one of the big QBs though.

I loved Percy falling to me in the 7th round. The news of his migraines has obviously dropped his ADP. He's worth the risk at that spot.

The QB scoring in this league is very friendly so I was happy to get Eli and Stafford much later than they should have gone assuming Stafford beaks out and Eli has another nice year. Trading QBs seems to be quite a bit easier to do in this league so having those two players to dangle as trade bait to an owner struggling at QB will be beneficial.

Seems QBs are going later in the drafts posted here than in most I'm seeing. As I said earlier, QBs were moving up draft boards on CBS.. now using real drafts only held after 8/15, QBs on MFL are going at the following spots :

Rodgers - 1.6

Brees - 1.7

Manning - 1.10

Brady - 2.3

Romo - 2.9

Schaub - 2.11

Rivers - 3.3

Cutler - 5.4

Favre - 5.6

Kolb - 5.10

Ryan - 5.12

Eli - 6.11

Palmer - 7.1

Seems like QBs continue to creep up and up and up.

I really like your draft. Like you said, since your receivers are so good, you don't need to have stud rbs to do well. Plus I am not so down on your rbs. What other wrs were available at the 2.5 spot instead of Wayne?

Are most drafts going like this?

1-4 (in no order): Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, Maurice Jones Drew....

That basically leaves guys like Gore, S.Jackson, Michael Turner, and maybe Rashard Mendenhall to choose from....

At the WR spot, somebody like Andre Johnson is about the only guy I could realistically consider in Round 1.

There's probably a person or two who may consider Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers or Peyton Manning although I kind of think that will happen after Pick 8 (outside of Brees).

I have no interest in Stephen Jackson because of the injury issues with him (has not completed a full 16 game season of late, STL has a rookie QB, coming off a 16 TD season as a team)....Hopefully, he goes 5-7.

Frank Gore is interesting, but he's another guy who I don't trust to stay healthy. SF has upgraded it's offensive line so hopefully there's more production coming from him. Now, he seems to be a hot pick so I sort of expect that he'll go #5 or #6.

Michael Turner is one dimensional, but is a TD machine. I prefer a RB who can catch the ball, but I can live with him at #8.

I don't like Mendenhall as a #8 pick so that leaves me with Andre Johnson, clearly the top WR on the board.

Questions is, what are the chances of 5-7 staying with RB, and who's my fallback option? Tough choices ahead as I draft in Atlantic City this weekend.

I went into my draft with a list of guys for pick #8...the big 4, Gore, AJ, Moss, and then decide between Rodgers/Manning/Brees. AJ was there.

just finished a 12-team, redraft, no-ppr, non-TE-mandatory draft from the 8 slot.

starting roster 1QB,2RB, 3WR/TE, 1K, 1DST. Not really happy with the results but not really surprised...

Moss

Greene

Romo

Best

Addai (couldn't resist that value here and with 2 slight question marks at RB in Greene and Best, I decided to take the insurance. He then got hurt a half-hour later :hangover: fingers crossed))

Nicks (funny that FBG has Nicks ranked only 4 slots below S Smith CAR yet Smith went right after my Romo pick in the 3rd and I got Nicks in the 6th. Hoping this uber-value pays off)

Tony Gonzalez (not crazy about my 3rd receiver so I grab a safe-ish receiving option here and then went with upside WRs later in the draft)

Reggie Bush

SF D

Britt

Avery (draft was an hour or so before Avery hurt his knee)

McGahee

Chester Taylor

Naanee

didn't pick kicker. I'll just wait til a few days before the season really starts.

I went a little RB crazy when I realized my top 3 RBs all have week 7 byes, so I felt I had to stock up on 3 decent fill ins for that week.

Not crazy about the WRs either. Guys I wanted went right before my pick a few times. And, at QB, I played the very risky strategy of

only drafting Romo. I figure I'd take chances on upside WRs and see who doesn't pan out and pick up a backup QB from there (that I

hope I only have to play a single time this year).

thoughts?

Anyone have any results from drafting in the eighth spot in a start 2 QB Draft? Kindly post if you are able.

Thanks and good luck!

Were you afraid that Best wasn't going to be there in round 4? I got a PPR draft tonight and I trying to decide on whether to take Best in round 3 and go QB in round 4 or reverse it. I want one of the top 6 QBs and if I go QB in the 4th, then there is a chance that I won't get one of the top 6.

In a start 2 QB league, you have to take a QB with either your first or second pick. If I can get Turner or Gore at 1.8, then I take Manning, Brady, Romo, Schaub or Rivers at 2.3.

If Gore/Turner are gone at 1.8, then I take brees or Rivers, then probably a top WR at 2.3. I could take the best available back at 2.3 which i feel is Mendenhall or Matthews as they will be the last of non RBBC left. I'm not sold on Mendy or Matthews that high, so could be leaning towards Moss, Fitz or Wayne at 2.3.

At 3.8, I would need to take either a Thomas, Benson or Grant as my RB1.

Thoughts?

after talking to the other guys after the draft, Romo wouldn't have lasted to the end of the 3rd and Best would've gone 4 picks later in the 4th.Didn't worry about Best not making it to me in the 4th for some reason but, with his pre-season so far, I expect him to keep moving up thecharts in ADP. And, yes, as you said, I was more worried about not getting Romo in the 4th than Best.If I had the chance to do it over again (knowing what i know now), I'd take a WR in the 2nd (R White) and pass on S Greene, then go RB/RB/RB in the 4th/5th/6th and hope for an RB group of Best/Addai plus one of Portis/MBush/Harrison/FJones as my RB3.But my RBs are super-soild now IMO and I really need Nicks to live up to his rankings so I only have to worry about finding a gem for my WR3.

I actually drafted Mendenhall at #8 - the first 7 were Peterson, Johnson, MJD, Rice, A.Johnson and M.Turner.

I really hated this draft position. I did reach on Mendenhall, but I didn't think there was a big difference between the next dozen or so guys.

I came back and took Ryan Mathews in the 2nd round, A.Boldin in the 3rd round...

Finished up with...

QB J.Culter

RB R.Mathews

RB R.Mendenhall (J.Best as a backup)

WR A.Boldin

WR D.Bowe

TE J.Finley

DEF Baltimore

PK R.Longwell

Overall, I do have serious questions but I like the upside.

ah...10 team league, not 12 like mine, but amazing how similar the first few rounds went to my draft (see a few posts earlier in this thread).I started Moss, Greene (Sjax gone already), Romo, Best and then was lucky enough to get Nicks in the 6th. We're not TE-mandatory so thingschange after that point for sure.I like your draft personally (but that's not surprising since it looks so similar to mine :goodposting: )

Now that both of my drafts (both from the 8th spot) are over I'll post my results:

1st league is 12 team PPR. QB, 2RB, 2WR, TE, Flex, K, DEF. bonus points for long scores

8 Ray Rice, Bal RB

17 Calvin Johnson, Det WR

32 Jahvid Best, Det RB

41 Wes Welker, NE WR

56 Jason Witten, Dal TE

65 Hakeem Nicks, NYG WR

80 Reggie Bush, NO RB

89 Matt Ryan, Atl QB

104 Malcom Floyd, SD WR

113 Ben Roethlisberger*, Pit QB

128 Packers D/ST, GB D/ST

137 Devin Aromashodu, Chi WR

152 Leon Washington, Sea RB

161 Heath Miller, Pit TE

176 Legedu Naanee, SD WR

185 Nick Folk, NYJ K

Never expected Ray Rice to be there but for some reason there was a QB run in the early 1st round (league is half guppies). I was planning on taking Turner so it didn't change my plan that much.

2nd league: 12 team Non-PPR QB, 2RB, 3WR, TE, 2R/W/T flex, K, DEF. No bonus points for long scores

1. (8) Steven Jackson

2. (17) Peyton Manning

3. (32) Jahvid Best

4. (41) LeSean McCoy

5. (56) Hakeem Nicks

6. (65) C.J. Spiller

7. (80) Terrell Owens

8. (89) Zach Miller

9. (104) Lee Evans

10. (113) Tim Hightower

11. (128) Jabar Gaffney

12. (137) Correll Buckhalter

13. (152) Heath Miller

14. (161) Legedu Naanee

15. (176) Chicago

16. (185) Nick Folk

In both drafts, Best won't have been there in the 4th if I didn't take him in the 3rd.

Ask away...

Your team is kind of the opposite of mine. I really hate your receivers, but the RBs look good across the board. I mean as in you probably have the worst WR corps in both leagues.

I have the worst RB corps probably, but it's the same concept. I don't like those teams because I think it's easier to find great surprise RBs than receivers.

Especially in a start 3 instead of start 2

Had mine last night. TD heavy (1 pt per 50 yds passing, 20 rushing, 15 receiving for WR and TEs. All TDs 6.) No tight end required so TEs and WRs are in the same pool. 12 teams.

1.8 - Andre Johnson. Shockingly, Turner and Gore both fell as well as Brees, Rodgers, and Manning went 5, 6, 7. Tough call here, went with the stud WR.

2.5 - DeAngelo Williams. Took him over Grant, Mendenhall, and Mathews. Calvin and Roddy were also available.

3.8 - Matt Schaub. After the 3 QBs went 5-7, Tom Brady went at #10, and Romo and Rivers both went in rd 2. Last stud QB left

4.5 - Jahvid Best.

5.8 - Jermichael Finley

6.5 - Jonathan Stewart. This pick may make or break my season.

7.8 - Jason Witten

8.5 - Jerome Harrison (needed another decent back with Stewart and Williams out the same week)

9.8 - Donovan McNabb (Big Ben went at 9.3)

10.5 - Brent Celek (I have 3 TEs in anon TE required league.)

11.8 - Devery Henderson (hoping for a breakout)

12.5 - Laurent Robinson (same)

13.8 - Stephen Gostkowski (league requires 2 DEF and 2 PK to be rostered)

14.5 - San Diego D (11th D off the board)

15.8 - Buffalo D

16.5 - Joe Nedney

Have at it.

Thoughts on this squad?

We don't do "thoughts on this squad" that's for the ACF. We do strategy for the 8th slot in general...

That being said, if you didn't think there was a difference between Mendy and the next dozen guys, why take him? I think part of the power of this slot this year is to be able to gain a large advantage at QB and WR without sacrificing RB to any of the guys behind you because "a dozen guys are about the same"

I assume you are talking about my 2nd team. Yea I didn't like waiting until the 5th to get a WR, but the value just wasn't there in the previous rounds (I was hoping for AJ in the 1st). I could have had either Steve Smith(s) or Ochocinco in the 4th so that might be the only thing I might have changed, but I dunno. WRs are so hit and miss after the elite. This league also has two flex spots so I can start a total of 4 RBs and I tend to like RBs over WRs in a non-PPR league.I also took a similar strategy last year and I was able to pick up good WRs in the first couple of weeks (Steve Smith (NYC), Sims-Walker). so I actually think it is easier to find WRs.

No, I meant both teams. Not big on Calvin. Just because last year had Austin/Rice on the wire doesn't mean it's common. Also, Steve Smith wasn't drafted in your league? Or MSW? They were both drafted in all of mine...whereas great RBs are available all the time:Ryan Grant, Nick Goings, Kevan Barlow, Jerome Harrison, Jamaal Charles, LeRon McClain, Ahmad Bradshaw, Tashard Choice, I could go on and on about guys who were able to contribute after being undrafted. It's a completely viable strategy, and it sucks that AJ was gone. If he hadn't been there for me, it would have been Rodgers or Manning. Rather than get a guy at RB similar to the next dozen or so who will be taken, I'd like a difference maker STUD at another position. Moss would have been a decent choice too. Simply different schools of thought, both with chances for victory.Aside from Austin and Rice last year, I really can't think of any significant undrafted WRs...

He actually said "both" of your teams. There is no way Calvin/Welker/Nicks is going to be worst corps in any league imo.

I just drafted and got the following:

Gore - Glad he fell. Was deciding between Moss and Turner who were also on the board.

R. Matthews - Austin, Fitz, Grant, Green, Brady still available

Romo - Jennings, Colston available. A lot of WRs and QBs off the board. Was hoping that maybe Jennings or Colston would make it back(didn't)

Gates - Liked him better than the 3rd tier WRs and RBs that were around (only start 2RB, 2WR, NO Flex)

Nicks - started grabbing some 3rd tier WRs rather than Forte, Bush

Simms-Walker - TO, Jacobs, Felix Jones, Harvin still there

S. Moss

Forsett - Debated Ricky Williams or Jerome Harrison

Fred Jackson

49ers D

Knox

Sanchez

Owen Daniels

Buehler

Buckhalter

Folk

Have to have backups at TE and K so that is why I have 2.

Edit to add that I feel a little weak at WR, but fairly happy with my team. The league is pretty QB friendly so I'm happy with Romo in the 3rd rather than the WRs I passed up.

I find that league (non-ppr) tends to go heavy on RBs, I guess it depends on knowing your league mates. Filling that 3rd WR spot is tough, but I feel like I have always been able to find good or servicable WRs on the WW so maybe that is just my league bias. Last year S.Rice was drafted but most of the other breakout WRs were not. We have a short bench in that league so it is hard to stash players. Maybe that is why I'm able to find good WRs on the WW.The first team that I listed has one of the stronger WRs groups in the league. It is a PPR league so Welker is gold. I believe that team is strong at both RB and WR. The only weakness is at QB, but if Big Ben comes back fine then watch out...For the 2nd team, I was deciding between S-Jax and Moss, but I'm not so sure about Moss this year. He will be good, but I don't think he will be great enough to pass on a non-RBBC RB.
