This is why they keep coaching like that. The end result doesn't make it the correct decision.
If the game was a point-fest at the time, I'd agree with you.  But when it occurred, it looked like the Niners wouldn't be able to keep up.  I still think that in the circumstances of this game, it was the right call.  Put them in the exact same situation but where the other team was having more success, and going for it would be the better call.

And yes, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.  Why do you ask?

Doesn't make it wrong either. If the extent of your analysis is "you'll back them up even if you fail", then your assessment is really no better.

It all depends on the expected value of the play. The FG attempt was likely worth 2.998 or something like that. Someone earlier lectured me about how a RB from the one who scores 40% of the time is HOF-caliber. Accept the likelihood of success at that rate and going for it was worth 2.8.
Even if I bought the 40% number, the resulting field position difference between the 1 (or very close) and the kick return is worth way more than .198 points

I don't have any idea what the difference is between the value of starting at the 1 vs. the return. I bet it's not much though, especially including the turnover possibilities (on both the 4th down play and the return).

It isn't on the line because you "barely should" its on the line because that's literally the only distance possible to go for it from the 1. Look at the chart again. He's suggesting go from the 6 in.

Relax, there will be 1, 2 tops more games this good this season on TNF.
I am the relaxed one that questioned and mocked the people that overreacted after 1Q saying how bad the game was.

Nfl needs to keep mining for these good young coaches who have balls and understand offense. Basically the anti-Lovies. Refreshing to watch.
This display should end the hopes and dreams of Jeff Fisher ever becoming an HC again and ruining another team's offense.
