***OFFICIAL Red Dead Redemption 2 Thread***aka AHRN'S MURDER HOBO ADVENTURE: HUNTS ELK AND PLAYS POKER (1 Viewer)

So Chapter 6 guys,

Based on Arthur's current medical condition and the impact on core health and stamina, are you disappointed you moved through the game so quick, versus doing lots of hunting, fishing and side missions?  I am, and now am deciding to either break off and do more of the side stuff or just finish the game and see what happens.  The Dr's diagnosis back at the end of Chapter 5 was such a bummer

mmm not really - i did a bunch of stuff early. Actually didn't think about it until now

      I might have regrets and probably wish I had a save from earlier but overall just enjoying the story. Probably will just see what happens at this point.

ANd not sure I say quick. Im 50+ hours into it.

I'm liking the story more than the side stuff.   I was hoping to run away with my old girlfriend :(

Yeah, Arthur had NO GAME in the theatre.  He was so IN after getting the Brooch back.  I moved on to crushing on Sadie and the Window Up North.

I'm still in chapter 3. I was focusing on upgrading my satchels. Just need the cougar pelt now to get the legendary satchel.
Cougars seem to find me if I take the North/South road near the trapper W of Strawberry, just head from the area of the lengendary buck straight south on that road, when you get to the turn E the key area is done.  If I don't see one then I maybe kill some time/camp and try again.  That's how I got a few and I'm nearing the hunting accomplishment of killing 5 w/ bow and arrow.  (Don't really want to go back over there right now, but probably should to finish this task.)

Status update.  I'm early in Chapter 4.

The story is really pulling me along, but I'm trying to do other things right now.

Got all the satchels recently so I'm about done doing major hunting.  I still want some trapper gear but the ones I want now require livestock.  Just don't feel real comfortable killing someone's bull/goat/lamb.

Gavin is funny but the fun is wearing on me now.  Riding along...  white dot...  oh cool.  'Have you seen Gavin?'   :wall:

Just helped out Mr. White and Mr. Black.  That one is funny.  Also helped out 'Margaret' and had a date in St. Denis.  I'm early on in the nun quests in St. Denis as well.

Been thinking about trying to get a few of the treasures.

Travelling for work this week and brought my PS4 for RDR2, but I doubt I will try RDRO as hotel Internet SUCKS.

I got pickpocketed in town the other day.   THought that was actually pretty cool

I mean I did chase the guy down and murder him but it was cool

Anybody find the old lady in the woods on the upper NW?

She has a gun locked up in the basement IIRC, it was the repeater rifle.

I got the rifle and my normal SOP is to shoot her but she ran off on a donkey and I lost her by the time I got on my horse. She said something about going to get her sons to track me down.
She is one of the home robbery missions.  If you didn't kill her, go back later and you can eavesdrop on a conversation.

That is as far as I've gotten, but the mission stayed active with a note it wasn't done yet, so I assume more is to come.

I'm in Chapter 3.  I've completed all the Gambler, Master Hunter, and Weapon Expert challenges.  Survivalist nearly done.  Bandit I barely started and then the others I can't progress until later chapters / when the southwest part of map is unlocked.

Speaking of the challenges... complete all 10 of a challenge and that challenge's Reinforced Equipment set at the Trapper get unlocked.  You know how when you max out your health/stamina/dead eye that 1/4 of the outer circle is still left empty?    When you buy all four items of either Herbalist, Master Hunter, or Weapons Expert, it fills in half of the empty space in the Health Bar (fills in 1/8 of the ring).  When you buy all three sets, it fills in the other 1/8, is my understanding.  The other challenges relate to Stamina and Dead Eye in the same way.

Then in addition, apparently there is a Legendary outfit you get when you complete all challenges.

I finished the Dreamcatchers as well, it wasn't too bad actually if you have a map to go by. Just grab them as you are passing near.  Reward is a trinket that helps with the bow.

Also, I've bought about 90% of the Trapper's clothing.  I need perfect moose and sheep in particular, and a few legendary that I gather aren't available until later missions.   I feel sorry for the ranchers at Downes Ranch and Painted Sky. I kept riding up, hogtie them, and then make them watch as I rope and butcher their cows/goats/pigs/ox for perfect pelts.  I need to find a good sheep farm.  There's one by Emerald Ranch but its dog attacked me when I hogtied the owner last time and I feel lousy killing a dog even in a video game. :(

I have 4 treasure maps but don't know wtf o do with them.  has anyone made any sense of these yet?  I'd like a strong clue but not a spoiler.

I may have mentioned this already but the randomness of the dialogue in the merchant scenes never fails to crack me up.

/gives horse-stomped squirrel abortion
"FOLKS GONNA ENJOY THIS!"

/hands over bullfrog carcass that was killed with a shotgun
"I HOPE YOU MAKE SOMETHIN' REAL NICE WITH THAT"

Do you have the High Stakes 1 Map?

If so, the topography and items mapped made it "relatively" simple to find the other maps and the loot in the end (died like 7 times before getting the loot at the end which, to me, let me know I was close).  Looking for Map 2 leads to a VERY cool set up with a bear and a wolf too.

I'm more likely to cheat for treasure maps.  The clues are pretty hard to interpret.

Oh, one thing I've started doing concerning treasures...  I have quit selling gold (or almost anything) at the fence, that way if I ever die or get arrested they only get my cash but I still have my gold and other valuables.  I can always sell stuff at the fence if I need cash.

You don't lose your cash when you die, do you?

Some of them are kind of easy to figure out, others are not.

Jack Hall Gang 1 is a good one to start with because it's a really distinctive rock formation that you've probably ridden past 30 times in the early chapters.  Getting the general location is easy.  But then finding the actual treasure is tough.  It may involve edge along ledges and jumping across gaps... and Eagle Eye won't spot them.  It'll be a spot you just have to walk up to and it'll tell you to Y to reach under a ledge or look beneath a rock or something like that.

If you want my opinion, try to find the general location yourself for the sense of accomplishment, but then once you're there if you don't find the final spot quickly then look online at some of the guides that have pictures that guide you.  Most of the general locations are pretty big features that get represented in some way (even if just being named) on the map.

Is there much need for money in later chapters?  I think I'm up around $3500-$4000 and there's nothing to spend it on but ammo and clothing.

I've been active hunting and selling animal parts, and I typically loot all the bodies I kill where possible.   I've never been close to money starved -- I have like $1500 now and that's after I just blew a ton of money on clothes and bought out the fence's recipe collection.    That's the lowest I've been on money in several chapters.    seems like the take from looting bodies increases as the chapters do -- majority of the bodies now have 2 or 5 bucks on them in addition to watches and buckles -- in the early game I'd kill a ##### for about 19 cents.

I do have that JHG1 one, but after getting frustrated on some other maps I havent even paid much attention to it.    I'll check that one out.  thanks.

Had anyone seen a bug with hair tonic? I bought three of them, but they don't show up in my satchel under the tonics menu..  When I try to buy more it says I can't carry anymore, but I can't see any evidence that I'm carrying any, other than the fact that I know I bought three and never drank and bof them.

Am I missing something obvious?
Kind of a late response here but unless I'm mistaken no one had an answer to your question.

When in you're in your satchel the hair tonics don't show under the tonics tab. I had the same issue and found them under the kits tab.

I responded but not sure if he saw my post.

IIRC you can access your entire inventory by holding down right on the old school D-pad.

Yes!  thanks @-arcK-.

I figured this out eventually but forgot to respond.  it is under "kits" in your satchel.

Stupid me, thinking "hair TONIC" would show up under the "TONIC" section.  🤔

And those who responded saying it should be in my inventory wheel, it never showed up there.   that seems to only show you a subset of what you're carrying around, and also I am a complete packrat when it comes to gaming.   I carry the most of everything, everywhere.

You and everyone else, I'd imagine. This is a great game but some of the decisions the devs made along the way are real head scratchers.

I will say, it took a while to figure out the inventory system.  I finally realize there are two different systems the satchel (right on d-pad) and the other system that includes weapons/items/horse stuff.

I still struggle sometimes finding simple things.  Like cigars are 'food' or are they 'tonic'?  Baits are kits, I think.

I feel like one of my great accomplishments in this game is getting fully used to the controls.  Remembering to holster weapons in town, how to quickly get into the map, how to dual wield, how to make sure I'm using the right ammo, how to craft food and recipes, etc.

Oh, I've noticed on Reddit that some of the offline bugs in RDR2 have been patched w/ the update that added online.

The most notable for me, is the Gold Double Action revolver from GTAOnline was added.  I guess it just replaces the double action revolver the character had, if applicable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they patched the money glitch and a few other things as well.  Patch notes have no details, which is normal for R*.

Yes, this game is in the running for me for "game I have swore at the most".

"Climb on the damn horse already!"

"No you stupid ####### nag!  LEFT!  GO LEFT!"

Some of the horse stuff has been particularly disappointing to me.  Early on, my horse felt like my companion and there was some small level of enjoyment taking care of her.

Now? I view her as a suicide-prone equine who wants to take me with her, slamming us into trees and rocks whenever the opportunity presents itself.  There's no winning with these controls.  I'll try to get Silver to go left around a tree, taking us into an open area.  And she'll resist and force herself right.  If I keep forcing she'll eventually go left but only at a moment she'll face plant us into the tree I was avoiding.  And if I give her her head and let her choose the path, she'll successfully avoid that tree but take us right into a grove and face plant into the next tree.

Sometimes with rocks and embankments she'll jump them, and other times she'll run into them, so what do I do?   If I manually make her jump, she'll sometimes land on them with her knees still bent like she's planning to land on a ground at the same level as she jumped from, and we'll wipe out.  It's not constant but it happens enough I swear a blue streak at the TV set. I ride straight to most destinations whenever possible, ignoring the roads so I do have to dodge a lot more stuff than usual, but still.  Either let me have control, or have the horse smart enough not to run into stuff head first when she fights for control and I give it up to her.

On a more geeky side, I am pretty sure the problem is... they made realistic looking special animations for the horse riding around/over such obstacles.  But the detection distance at which they note the upcoming obstacle and start switching to the canned animation is too far, and locks you into a course that you actively try to steer away from.  And it seems like sometimes it'll let you override but only after forcing you partway to the obstruction where it's too late to avoid now.

I’m not having nearly as much trouble as you but I do understand your frustration. If you’re not going to stick to the roads then you should expect some accidents running full speed. If you've ever been on a real horse you already know how dangerous that can be.

Couple of things that might help.....

When riding through trees, let go of the directional stick completely, the horse will avoid the trees for you.

If you go into your map section and set a course then switch to cinimatic mode the horse will follow the path there automatically. You can still control the horse slightly but there’s no real reason to.

Tried the bolded.  But that just caused her to avoid the first tree and then make no attempt to avoid the ones just behind it.

I've always tried to just avoid the obstacles, even if just so she doesn't whicker plowing through bushes.

Me: that guy’s whole life was worth 14 cents and some gum

wife: you’re a sociopath

Just fired up after the update.

Single player, the Grizzlies East area of the map, I see a "Wanted Dead or Alive" bounty if I mouse over the area just beneath the G and R.  Any idea what that is about?  Something mission/story related that I haven't got to yet?  Map only shows a sheep image there.

Think that's a bug. I don't remember having that there before and I'm very far along

Unless it's some new secret

Has anyone been able to calm ol stumpy's horse, Buell?  I tried for like 20 mins and that mofo just wasnt having it.

Dragged my ### into the middle of the lake :hot:
Encountered Buell yesterday.

Next time you may want to calm him with like 300 X pats and slowly lead him back to Stumpy.  The "unlock" appears to be a gift that keeps giving.

FINISHED CHAPTER 6

The story/cinema/score is fantastic

DO NOT CLICK THIS SPOILER IF YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING

:(

Was really well done though

Yeah I didn't have any problems with that mission.  Just walk slow and calm

I couldn't ever get to "lead".

it was only "calm" and I chewed a 10 pack of cocaine gum and it crushed all 10 rings of my stamina without calming.   I ever tried to put a bullet in its head to take the wooden leg and you can't shoot the dumb horse even.   next option is gonna be throwing dynamite at it :hot:

Thrilled about the patch/update. Dead Eye was not working for me and my buddy that is also playing was treating me like I had a learning disability when I was asking him for help. Nothing was working the way he described it and then as soon as it updated yesterday I got a notification when the game started that my Dead Eye has been upgraded and I could now select targets.

Without any spoilers, what mission name should we make sure we keep a save from,   for engame options?
not sure about the names - can't at work but just one near the end of chapter 5.

I don't know if it will affect end of game options at all but i wanted to leave it open in case it might.  TBH - not sure if it matters. I haven't read any spoilers online or anything so i don't know

I never even got a pat option.   "Calm" was my only option for 20 mins while he bucked around like a dumb mother####er.

Just kept calming to no effect.  I'll try it again.
