Honestly, I don't have a good feeling about this one.

Any word on whether A. Carter and J. Taylor for the redskins are going to play?
I'm not aware of any reason Carter wouldn't play. As of now, Taylor is a GTD.The Redskins kept 6 DEs on their roster. Should be interesting to see what kind of packages they throw out there. I think they could try to duplicate what the Giants did last year and throw out 4 DE on a 3rd and long.

For the Giants, LB Jonathan Goff and CB Terrell Thomas are already listed as out for the game.

Reporting and ready for the season!!!

I have been looking forward to seeing the Giants pass rush and it is a real shame about Osi. The Giants did have good depth there, but losing Strahan and Osi is a big blow.

I think the Giants are more solid than people think (many saying last year was a fluke). However, when you can pressure the QB and you can run the ball and are effective at everything else, you can be tough. Feagles is a great punter, the return game is good, RB and WR depth is good, Eli is solid and above average, the OL can run block well and the Tackles on defense have looked great this off season.

The FG kicking game is an issue, but the rest is all at least average (including a secondary that was a weak link last year)

Anything can happen opening week, but I like the Giants because I think they are a better all around team.

The Redskins better run the ball 35-40 times in this game, or swap a player to the Giants for a WR who's not hurt.

Assuming Carney kicks, the Giants kickers are a combined 86 years old!

I think the team that runs the ball more effectively will win...very original, I know. :sarcasm: But still, the Giants running game gets underrated a lot, and the Skins passing game doesn't look ready to me.

Giants, 16-10.

X-rays of Shawn Springs' leg (which swelled after he was kicked in practice Monday) were negative and the team said he has a bruised calf. He's likely to be a game-time decision Thursday, a la Jason Taylor.
Oof. Missing both those guys would be the suxor.

I agree that the tendency among most people is to underestimate the Giants, but it also seems like Giants fans are being a little too dismissive of the effects of the loss of Strahan and Osi on the pass rush, particularly on 3rd downs when their line loaded up on DE's. I don't get that, and I say that as someone who has a huge amount of respect for what those guys brought to the pass rush. Won't this be a problem? Is Tuck going to be just as good this year as THE main pass rusher despite not having those other guys to take attention away from him?

Maybe we should research what happened the last time these two teams got together in the NJ swamp:

Relevant how... as Todd Collins lead the Skins to victory?
. . . against a defense with Osi and Strahan . . . Yep, pretty irrelevant.
Good point. So the Skins were clearly better then the Giants last year.

I wonder if the Giants will even bother showing up for the game. Maybe they should just to hand over their Superbowl rings.

I think it should be a good game. I just hate they are starting the game at 7PM
Is kickoff really 7pm ET or is that when all the pregame crap starts? Being on the best coast, I can't imagine it's a 4pm PT kickoff? Makes no sense for the network. They'd be getting the worst of both worlds with coastal viewing ...

It is 7pm - because of the Republican convention.

I hope my boy Portis produces like he did on that highlight reel from the game last year. I will take the 120 yards and a TD.

Skins upset 24 - 23.

Lots of questions should be answered in this game. How much more confidence will Eli have? As a Skins fan I was very sad to see the Giants trade Shockey, he always seemed to screw Eli up more than a little.

As i read this thread, I see a lot of people expecting a relatively low scoring game. Why is this exactly?

Is it that you think these defenses are that good? Are the offenses just not that good? Are you expecting hurricane Hannah to be effecting the area?

The Giants Defnse is worse than last year, which gave up a ton of points in last season's opener to Dallas.

If Washington can only put up 10 to 17 points against this defense, they are in for a long year.

As far as the Giants offense, it looks like ### systems go. They will have everyone available to them that they'll be able to count on this season in major roles. How do they not score?

I'm not sure what the over/under is in Vegas, but I expect it's not too high and I'd take the over.

I've heard all the preseason hype about how Campbell's supposed to have improved so much this offseason in Zorn's offense and how the Eli we saw in post season is the guy we should be expecting to see in the future. Now it's time to see if it's true or preseason fluff.

Giants 27

skins 13

Long year for the skins...if collins was still playing for them id add another td but campbell isnt that good...zornies first game will likely have a number of mistakes...did he ever finish that playbook?...offensive line doesnt look real good either..ring ceromony for the g-men I believe so they should be pretty emotional...looking forward to it.

Well, the Giants D was pillaged in last year's opener by Dallas, true, but they were just a little bit better than that at the end of the year, no? Just a little? Don't expect weather to be a factor - Hannah remnants aren't supposed to make it to DC until Saturday, so nothing there.I'm picking a low score for the following reasons:1. Defenses are usually a little ahead of offenses early in the year.2. Giants D took some hits, but I think the Skins having a brand new offense that they've looked erratic at best in more than offsets that3. I think the Giants D will have something to prove - "Look, we're good even without Michael and Osi"4. Skins D is solid, and I'm still not sold on Eli. 5. Division game, should stay close, be very intense.6. I really don't buy all the preseason "fluff" on either QB. Campbell still looks slow to deliver the ball at times, and I still don't think he's all that comfortable in this offense. And I think Eli's a slightly above-average QB who got hot at the right time last year.*shrug* But I'm not exactly John Madden, either.

I need to know what this is. :goodposting:

As a Redskin fan I have to say that the most satisfying game of all to watch last year was the Super Bowl. Hats off one more time to the Giants for beating the "unbeatable" team. :)

Agreed. And I'm one who NEVER roots for division rivals in the playoffs, even if my team is not playing. I can't bring myself to do it. But I was rooting like hell for the Giants, and I almost enjoyed that win as much as a Redskins Super Bowl win. Almost.

I'm watching Detroit's (soon-to-be-Ex-) Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick plead guilty in court this morning, facing jail time, owing $1,000,000 in restitution and losing his seat in office. This day is whizzing by, and this is at least as exciting as tonight's football game.

(Go Giants!)
