2025 Philadelphia Eagles - SB rematch: check. NFCCG rematch: On deck. (40 Viewers)

Our defense allowed the Cowboys to score 20 points last week. This week against the Giants, the Cowboys dropped a 40 burger.

On the flipside the Giants were held to just six points in week one, but against this Cowboys defense put up 37 points, while we could only put up 24 points.

These two data points tell me what I think we all are seeing. Our defense has not fallen off from last year nearly as much as we all thought it would. Our offense is lacking so far.

Personally, I'll wait until around week 4 to make any assumptions on this team.

The offense went TD, TD, TD, FG prior to the weather delay. It was obvious, that the delay had an effect on both offenses.

Last week, some of the conservative calls that Sirianni made, you could tell, he had no fear of the Chiefs offense being able to score enough points to beat them.

I view the Eagles like some of those Belichick Patriot teams. They'll do whatever they need to do to win the game. If they need to pass it 40 times, they'll do it. If they need to run it 40 times, they'll do it. If they need to play a conservative field position game and let the defense win the game, they'll do it. They let the other team decide how they want to lose that week.

Sure I agree that we shouldn’t stamp in concrete any takes after two weeks. And I also agree that they were clearly not worried about KC dropping dimes on them yesterday-it was a very attrition based field position type of gameplan until they needed a big play and Hurts and Davonta made one. I’m not concerned, just wish they would come out firing hot but that’s just not how this team operates.

Easy to forget but last year after their barely-win against the Browns to go to 3-2, people were calling for Nick’s head. They then ripped off 15 wins in 16 games (only loss was Jalen leaving in the Friday quarter against Washington). I’m willing to give these guys the benefit of the doubt at this point.

Big news as Eagles play at TB I believe in 2 weeks per Scheftar

Bucs DT Calijah Kancey tore his pec, and he now is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery Friday, per sources.

-The Eagles defense has given up just 7 points in the second half in the 2 wins. And they are allowing the second lowest opponents passer rating in the NFL. The Eagles rank fifth in opponents yards per pass attempt and they are sixth in completion % allowed.

-DT Jordan Davis has the most solo and assisted tackles in the NFL among DL, according to PFF.

-The Eagles are averaging 2.4 points per drive this season
That is 8th best in the NFL
They averaged 2.5 PPD last year

-Through two games, they have a tendency to run when...

Under center: 96%
Pistol: 91.3%
Shotgun: 33.8%

All other NFL teams
Under center: 69.5%
Pistol: 62.7%
Shotgun: 26.9%

-Under Nick Sirianni, the Eagles are 36-2 when they win the turnover margin.

-Patrick Mahomes -- when facing pressure against #Eagles

4-of-10, 32 yards, 0 TD, INT, 9.2 rating.

Still can't believe the Tush Push forced Mahomes to miss a wide open WR for an easy TD, Kelce to drop a TD, and Butler to miss a FG

😂

Somehow the hate and whining just keeps getting worse. Guess that happens when you win almost every game you play

100%. It hurts people to be positive and ot doesn’t generate the clicks.

It’s 2025 and there’s an actual debate about the fairness of a QB sneak. Crazy times.

Eagles are first team to start 2-0 without throwing a TD pass since the 2010 Steelers.

Others to do it since 2000:

2008 Ravens
2007 49ers
2005 Chiefs
2000 Lions

Only 1 team since 1940 started 3-0 without throwing a TD pass: Philadelphia Eagles in 1949

Let’s not do it again, please!

I picked #3 in a 12 team draft. I passed on Saquon, because I just had a gut feeling his Fantasy production was going to drop off from last year’s historic performance. It broke my heart and made me break out in a cold sweat.

I panicked Round 2, and took AJB, even though I was down on him with the hammy issues. The playcalling thru 2 games has been so bland and predictable, Patullo would be bounced from a Division III school.

I know everyone enjoys somebody telling golf stories, fishing stories and fantasy football draft stories. But, I have a purpose.

Dear Lord, I need at least 20 fantasy points from AJ this week. If not, I’m gonna drop him. Amen.

I felt having the combination of Year 2 in the Vic defense (it usually takes 3 years to peak and look at last year) combined with the youth and expected improvement/jumps/leaps in player development would have given us a great shot at countering the effects of losing the guys we lost.

So far, the results are encouraging

The D looked fantatic against KC, but they are just decimated on Offense. I’m not ready to make any judgments until week 4-5 about what they are, but the D is encouraging. Aside from the glaring black hole of suck at CB2, everything else looks solid.

DT rotation is fantastic. JD is finally looking like a 1st Rd pick. JC isn’t even in shape, yet and still a game-wrecker. Ojomo looks Milton-esque when JC is on the field. BY is having solid snaps.

EDGE looks much better with Z Smith signing. So stoked we picked him up. Vic likes to lean on 3-4 dudes, Nolan, Jalyx, Z and Uche is a nice stable.

LBs are stacked. Baun looks even better than last year. Campbell looks every bit the Steal of the Draft- already playing at a high level, and his ceiling is high. Trotter Jr is undersized but plays intuitively. Plus, Nakobe will be back next month?

Reed is solid at S and Mukuba is showing signs of being a legit blue-chip prospect.

Q and Coop are outstanding. Hopefully, Bennett can step up and learn the system, because Adoree looks worse than ‘23 Badberry.

Thank God the D has played well, because this O needs to get figured out quickly. Sooooo, predictable:

Pistol? Run.

Under Center? Run.

Shotgun? Pass.

Yeah the percentages I posted above were staggering

Yeah, I basically said the same thing as you. Sorry 😂

I just had to get all that crap out of my head and exorcise the “Does this team suck?” demons from my head.

This article has some discussion about the offense's predictability so far. At least Patullo is clearly aware of it and is thinking about how to go against their tendencies.

Two weeks into the season, is the Eagles offense becoming too predictable, based on Hurts’ pre-snap alignment?

The numbers suggest it is. When Hurts is under center, the Eagles have run the ball on a league-high 95.8% of plays, according to Next Gen Stats. They’re also very likely to run out of pistol formation (84.6%, which also ranks in the top 10).

The Eagles also run out of the shotgun more than most teams (33.8%, which ranks No. 5 in the league). Patullo noted that those trends are on his mind as he prepares for the Los Angeles Rams this week.

“We get all those numbers and you try to counteract those coming in,” Patullo said. “Sometimes, situationally, the plays pop up where you’re just not able to do that. But it’s definitely on our mind, as far as when you plan those things. You always want to make sure, ‘Oh, I have a tendency I can break.’ Definitely need to do that this week.”

When does it make sense for the Eagles to break a tendency? Patullo said it depends on multiple factors, but it ultimately comes down to the flow of the game.

“You can do that early in the game,” he said. “You can do it late in the game. It can pop up whenever. It just depends on what you’re featuring that day. Like, what’s working. So if something’s working, it may come up, it may not. You may go into a game and say, ‘Hey, this is the play we’ve got to break the tendency with,’ but then it never occurs, because it’s not that kind of game for it.

“So it’s a little bit of a back-and-forth guessing game in-game. Sometimes it appears. Sometimes it doesn’t. Maybe it’s a week from now. It doesn’t have to be that game right away sometimes.”

I wouldn't admit the tendencies are a problem. I would make it sound like "yes, that's how we planned it. When a team stops it, we'll adjust" just to keep everyone on their toes. Then mix in the play action when everyone thinks they got it figured out.

“I went back and charted the Eagles' QB alignment tendencies for week 1 and came up with these numbers for the first 2 weeks combined:
Pistol: 2 pass (the first play of each game) | 18 run
Under Center: 2 pass | 14 run | 9 tush push
Shotgun: 57 pass | 15 rush

Excluding tush push plays, the Eagles have called a pass play on 79.2% of shotgun snaps and called a run play on 88.9% of non-shotgun snaps.”

This needs to get corrected asap

Andy Reid: "That's just what they'll be expecting"

The athletic article on Mon or Tues on the Eagles offense had an interview from Hurts saying the Eagles were trying to look to get the big plays early.
I saw a clip of one of the first, if not the first plays of the game. They had AJ Brown wide open deep but Calcaterra, shockingly, missed his block so Hurts had to run for his life. Dude is a liability if he can't block. It's not like he's an awesome receiver. Don't see the upside to playing him over any other TE on the roster.

He’s a real liability out there. There were people last year blaming Pickett for the Washington loss when most was on Calcaterra. He’s cheap but he’s an FA after the season & he’s buddy buddy with Hurts so it wouldn’t shock me if he’s resigned. Outside of being close with hurts I can’t think of another reason to keep this guy on the roster. I truly believe they were trying to draft a TE but the draft board didn’t go their way.

This team really needs better TE depth

They should. It should be Granson and Latu behind Goedert. Like it’s so infuriating watching Calcaterra. In the playoff game vs the Rams he missed a block that ended up with Barkley getting TFL’d and he made a second mistake too.

Hopefully they do something at the Deadline. They don’t need a starter big name unless it makes sense and Goedert is done after this year, but a better option is nice

Mailata isn't having it:

Scheftar has really become a stooge for Roger these last few yrs.

Feeling like this Rams game is going to be another physical slugfest kinda of game where the better defense wins. Huge test for a lot of things about the Eagles

Kevin Patullo - can he adapt
Offense - can it pass
Defense - how legit is it
Vic - how many times will he continue to own McVay

Etc

After last night, the Bills are 3-0. Now, I've got the Eagles beating the Rams 28-21 this Sunday. But, I'm already taking bets from any Eagles fan about the "Super Bowl Preview" game Week 17. I'm sticking with my prediction that the Bills will beat the Eagles in Week 17, and double-or-nothing if both teams make it to the Super Bowl!

BILLS MAFIA!!

Stupid for the NFL to put this game so late. Both teams might have nothing to play for at that point.

we know it can. can this OC get his sht in order covers that imo.
Just stop running the ball 80 percent of the time. It's dumb
lol. point taken. just wish it was less vanilla, but not yet really a problem. I want AJB stats! I don't own him anywhere in fantasy, just want to see him get involved.
All good. Agree

Defense schemes against play calling tendencies are 80%+ of the battle. Hopeful that Patullo is throwing bait tape out there and not channeling his inner Brian Johnson
