**** OFFICIAL ROCKY BALBOA THREAD **** (1 Viewer)

(HULK)

(Smash)
So, I'm lucky enough to be going to the DC premier of this movie tonight @ 6pm.

Stallone will be there, if I catch him on his own I may converse with him.

In this scenario, I'm prepared to say, "So... whens Rocky VII coming out?"

Come up with something better if you can, although I'm leaving in a 1/2 hour to go get some drinks.

Also, I'll report back tomorrow with a review.

Okay.

So, first off, its definitely better than 5. Much better than 5. And definitely worth seeing if you're a Rocky fan.

Its short, like only 90 minutes or so, and there is only 1 fight scene and only 1 training montage (and its brief).

The whole movie is mostly a slow build up to the fight. Its cool to see Rocky and where he's at 20 years after his prime, but this part does drag a bit. It kinda ties into the fight later, which was cool.

The one thing that has me totally :shuked: was the song he played while entering the ring. Paulie picked it out, and it was Sinatra's "High Hopes". It seemed very out of place to me, but really with a 60 year old in a boxing ring, maybe out of place was the motif.

Anyway, there are definitely a few Rocky moments that still hit you where it counts. But they're few and far between.

I wouldn't recommend seeing it if you could care less about the previous Rocky movies.

If you're a Rocky fan, see it... at least it will wash the bad taste of Rocky V out of your mouth. It puts the character to rest in a more appropriate way... Stallone was there and talked to us before the movie. He talked about how Rocky V was a disapointment, and he didn't want the Rocky legacy to have ended on a down note. VI does a better job of keeping that legacy going. VI isn't as good as 1 through 4, but its a good movie.

If you have specific plot questions, post them and I'll answer them in spoiler text.

I heard Adrian is dead. Is she already dead, or does she die in the movie? And does this matter?

Just wondering what you meant by this. Do you mean closure for the Rocky character or, uh, something else more permanent?
Closure is what I meant.I suppose if he wanted to make another Rocky film, Stallone still could. But from what he said last night, I doubt he wants too. This is a fitting end for this character's story.

Stallone said during MNF that the fight scenes were the most realisic to date. How would you compare the fight scenes to the previous Rocky movies?

Ok, ok, I can't stand the suspense: Does Rocky win or does he get his ### kicked?
mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("The fight goes all 10 rounds and is a split decsion. 2 judges for Mason Dixon, 1 judge for Rocky Balboa. But all the fans are so happy that he fought hard the whole time, the whole crowd is chanting, "Rocky! Rocky!".

Of course he gets his ### kicked. Even when he wins, he still gets his ### kicked. If they really want to put a plot twist into a Rocky movie, they should show a montage where he learns how to block a punch.

 He beat down Clubber in the second fight.
Yeah - after completely putting his hands to his side, allowing Lang to clock him in the grill as hard as he can, while repeating "You ain't so bad."Don't get me wrong... I'm actually a big Rocky fan. Loved I & II, thought III was the best, and was ok with IV. Like everyone else, I refuse the acknowledge the fifth installment. I do plan on seeing the new one, just for fun - but I'm not expecting Academy Award winning performances.

Stallone should have stopped after the first one.
Why? Do you have any idea how much money he's made because of the Rocky Franchise???? I wouldn't blame him if he made 7, 8, 9...however many he wants to. Eeeeeaaasy money. Sure, the fans and the critics might bash it a little...but who cares when you and the studio are making millions?

Why? Because the other 4 sucked, that's why. Of course he did it for the money and I can't blame him. But from an artistic point of view he should have stopped. He took what was a great movie and turned it into a series of cartoons.
So you think he should have turned down tens of millions of dollars so that you would respect the 'art' of Rocky I a little more?

Was it any good?
You read about as well as Balboa did in "Rocky II".
Technically, my post was made "tomorrow".
Then either you forgot to set your clocks back a month ago when daylight savings time went off, or you have the wrong location entered, because your original post was made at 11:32pm Austin time.

:lmao: Yeah. Rocky was a great film. The others were of a lesser quality, but how does Rocky II-Rocky VI diminish the greatness of the original Rocky? It doesn't. Stallone has made millions of dollars off of the other movies. God bless him if he can make that much money. People continue to go an see the movies, so it's not like he's doing something the public doesn't want. If the movies made no money, he wouldn't make them.BTW, I think I-III were mostly good, I being on a different level than the others, obviously, but II and III were good movies. I actually thought IV was the worst of them all. The Russian people cheering for Rocky?? Gorbachev cheering for Rocky?? Come on...V is also horrible. Too much with Rocky Jr on that one. The movie does bring Rocky back to his roots, which is good in a way, but the way Morrison turns on Rocky makes no sense. He goes from worshipping Rocky to hating him within minutes. Also, what's up with Rocky losing all his money. The way they did that made no sense. First, how do you let Paulie anywhere near your money. Second, you mean to tell me the house and all of Rocky's possessions were worthless? He could have gotten several mil just for the house and cars alone. He might not be ridiculously rich like he was before, but he wouldn't have to go back to Philly. I actually like the last fight scene, though. I love the words of Mickey echoing in Rocky's head.If the new movie is in the same category as the first 3, it might be pretty good. I'll still probably wait for the DVD, but it might be interesting.

If VI is not as good as III and IV then I am not going to waste any time on it. In fact I will do what Arctic Edge does and wait till it hits DVD, then not rent it. Maybe if they run it on TNT like 50 times in about 2-3 years like it's a new film(TNT knows Drama)...maybe I will watch it then as I am getting faded after a night out or something...

No. You said, "He should have stopped after the first one."I said, "Why?"You said, "Because the other 4 sucked, that's why."If you want to go modify your first comment to reflect the "from an artistic point of view" and try to look at the movie industry as some sort of bubble where critical acclaim is all important while money and longevity mean nothing...then I guess you could do that and I wouldn't have any problem with it.

When Rocky became poor why didn't do commericals TV appearences to make the money back? That's what was shown in the beginning of Rocky III. He could have came up with a video game.

By the way Is there a Rambo IV coming out?

 I don't like crappy movies.
Oh, I agree that the first one is far superior. No argument from me at all there. But Stallone (and the studios) were extremely smart to continue with the Rocky franchise. The fact that they are still making a killing off of Rocky merchandise THIRTY YEARS after the movie came out is amazing.
