If he hits FA (and a new coach might not want to franchise or sign him, and Bradford himself might just be done with Philly after they got rid of the offense he just finally got comfortable in after constant upheaval in STL) I bet he ends up in HOU.

I think him and KC are pretty close at this point. Both above average QBs, need to see more of both before putting them top 10. Think KC has hit his peek though, but we'll see.
I know he was joking. But Skins fans have been having some crazy thoughts recently based on winning a historically bad division. Some of them are believing the craziness. Just had to make sure he understood that.

More and more, I think the Eagles franchise him, with a possibility that they sign him to a longer term cap friendly deal, if Bradford is willing to do that.
The potential is high that Bradford will be better than last year since this will be his second year back from two seasons lost due to injury.

I'm going opposite. We franchise him and try to trade him to Houston, Denver or Cleveland. His agent reportedly asked for $25mil per year.
Yea good luck with that. The money saved and potential draft pick will do a lot more good than him being here in the long run.

I agree we don't sign him to a long-term big money contract. But unless somebody gives us a great offer, I think we are better off having him for one franchise year. Remember that the team trading for him will probably want to sign him to a long term deal, so they are going to have to come to agreement before they trade for him. For the same reasons we don't want to sign him to a big long-term deal, they probably wouldn't want to as well.I'm going opposite. I would hate to see him play one rusty year for us, and then go somewhere else and have his breakout year for another team, when we could at least have him for one more year.

What the alternative to Bradford though -
If we get a decent QB with pick #1, I'm fine with moving on. Otherwise - Sanchez? Maybe a chance on RG3 (I'm sure he'd love to stick it to the Skins), but he's far from a sure thing.

If you draft a guy, you bring in a cheap Bridge. Chase Daniels seems like the obvious choice since he's coming from KC. Sanchez is gone IMO.

Yea I heard that last night. The fact that it's out there now though leads me to believe the Eagles don't want to pay that kind of money. I tend to agree. Having a cost controlled QB is a big piece to building a championship. Brady has purposely taken less for years now to try to win. Manning and Palmer make the 16th and 17th highest salaries. Cam is the only one with the big payday of the 4 remaining. Seattle went to 2 super bowls with a cheap Russell Wilson. Flacco didn't have a huge contract when he won and Kaepernick didn't get paid till after he got there. Eli still didn't have his huge payday yet for those super bowls. I just think we would be better served using the money elsewhere fot OL and defense while trying to find the next Russell Wilson in the 3rd or draft a QB high next year to groom.

Somebody will. Some QB that has non standard measurements despite talent and success will fall and a team that did their homework will grab him. Not every starting QB in the NFL was a high first round pick.

No, what made him rich was being the #1 overall pick before the rookie salary cap was in place and signing a six year contract. That contract has ended. The Eagles can keep him one more year by franchising him at around $20 million, which I think is overpaying. However, because it would only be a one year deal, and because he has some potential to be better than last year because it is his second year back from a major injury, I would take that risk. Could he get hurt this year, and not play. Sure. Could they use that $20 million elsewhere better? Sure, but I think you would be taking more of a long term approach to success. I think if you are trying to win now, Bradford is your best option, and with the division weak, I think it reasonable to try to win now. Like I said, if he gets hurt this year or stinks, you move on from him next year.

Obviously they aren't all first round picks. But getting a good one in the third round or later is extremely rare. To get one as good as Wilson, rarer still.
Brady and Bulger were drafted in the 6th round of the 2000 draft. Since then, Wilson is the only strong starting QB to be drafted in the 3rd round or later. The best of the rest have been Tyrod Taylor, Fitzpatrick, McCown, Schaub, Cassell, Foles, Cousins. That is in 15 years.

to be fair, only 9 teams this year had a starting qb not taken in the first round. And 4 of those were 2nd-round picks.

Yep, I have heard this rumor as well. Brock needs to be careful about how far he over plays his hand. Denver has a lot of championship pieces still in place and other than Miller, they are not going to mortgage the house for another player. If Bradford, despite his injury concerns, can be had for cheaper and that enables the Broncos to sign some more of their defensive pieces I'd worry if I'm Brock.kb488 said:

Well Bradford ain't going to be cheaper. He's going to get in the $19-20m per year range. He might be a bit better than Brock. That's about it.

Agents don't ask for less money the year after that got a guy more. Remember his opening offer was $25m per year. A negotiating ploy but still, you see how this guy plays ball.

I didn't ask why he'd ask for it. Why will he get it? Maybe the Eagles can offer him only 15 million. You're the one that keeps saying he's not going to be cheap. He's going to get 19 or 20 million. Why?

Did you not just read above? Do you not know how Free Agency works? He's the best QB on a weak FA market. See Maxwell, Byron for reference on the free agent market. Does that mean he's worth $20m+ per year? No. But he's the only QB out there, so if a team like Houston, Cleveland, Denver, etc wants him, they have to over pay. That's why you hire a Tom Condon or Drew Rosenhaus. They make sure that happens.

oh ok. 20 million for a guy who you said would be struggling to hold a backup position if he was just a third round pick. Your problem is that you contradict yourself. You list teams that you think need a quarterback, but the Eagles are right at the top of that list if they don't have Bradford. Sanchez had two starts last year and was outscored about 95 to 15. The true answer, and one you don't have the balls to say, is that Bradford has the potential to be a franchise quarterback. And those guys are very very rare. There may be 20 of them on the planet. That is why he's going to ask for and get 20 million.

To me that is overspending on a guy like Bradford who has never demonstrated anything but being middle of the pack at best but I guess it sounds about right for NFL GM logic. Someone will still think he has the potential to be something more than he has ever demonstrated.

Any team that pays Bradford anything near serious money is crazy. Philly is in a tough spot though because they will need to turn to someone.

the only guy on that list that Bradford isn't better than right now, is Cutler. And he's just as good as him. Except Cutler is on the downside of his career. He's not getting any better. We know what he is. Bradford has not been healthy enough to know yet what he can be. And his improvement during this season from the beginning to the end, shows that he is still on the improving side of his career. His question mark been his health. Thw knees held up this year. Which was the big question mark. He missed two and a half games, because he got killed on a hit that every quarterback in this league would have been injured on. And it was a shoulder and concussion combination. I'm not for signing the guy to a contract yet. I want to see more. Personally, I would franchise tag him. He was a top 12 quarterback in the second half of the season. If that progress continues, then we have our guy. If it does not, then let him go. But to let him walk now, with absolutely nothing to replace them with, and watch some other teams have their franchise guy, is it simply ridiculous.

How many years does a guy like Bradford get a free pass for being snake bitten? He may be the next Rich Gannon for all we know but to this point he has never really flashed at the NFL level.
To this point in their respective careers both Tannehill and Kaepernick have demonstrated more on the field than Bradford. They both were terrible last year but they both have been better than Bradford ever has. Maybe Bradford turns it around and both Tannehill and Kaepernick continue to decline but in no way has Bradford been better than them to this point.

It's not a contradiction at all. Going rate is $19-20m for Qbs. I guess by your standard of rating a guy based on what he makes, Byron Maxwell is a top 5 CB.
And what I said in the Eagles thread is that IF Bradford was a 3rd round pick, he'd be hanging on for a backup job in the league. Because he's a former 1.1, he will always get a GM somewhere saying "what if we could unlock that potential."

Hell guys like Foles have shown more on the field in their careers than Bradford. Not saying Foles is better now but he has actually accomplished something on the field which is more than Sam has ever shown.

This sheet needs to stop. Ryan Fitz got a starting job..probably because he was 7.36....
Sam won ROY....had a 21-13 season, followed up with a 14-4....was still in his 20's.....THATS why hes getting chances....

There's really no middle ground in QB salary. The only guys on veteran contracts who got < $16m and > $5.25 mil last year are Brady and Foles. The question is really if he gets $17m or 20m, which really who cares. That 2 or 3m not going to ruin a team's cap. What's more important is how the contract is structured. Kaepernick's contract didn't guarantee anything outside of injury, and Tannehill's only guaranteed 2 years. Given a big risk factor on Bradford is injury, what guarantees does he deserve if any? As an Eagles fan who doesn't really want him here anymore, I'd rather they give him more and have him be cuttable next year than less and string the team along for a couple years if he doesn't prove it next year.

So - it's curious that the reports say the Eagles will NOT franchise Bradford. I think that pretty simply means they do not see him as a 19-20 mill a year player. Yea, they could do a long term deal that makes the initial cap hit less - but it's telling that they feel a 19 mil cap hit to franchise him is not worth it, apparently.
