I mentioned earlier but didn't explain very well: I really like SOA. It's not as deep as BB or some of the other shows I like, but it's fun and entertaining enough that I don't miss it (particularly considering what else is on Tuesday nights). However, my bone-to-pick with the show has always been that Jax is not a very believable "leader-of-men-badass." They are a gang of criminals, gangsters, yet here is there President-in-waiting not wanting anyone to get hurt and wanting to avoid being a drug mule and all these other things that are the hallmark of violent motorcycle gangs. Jax spent the first four seasons trying to be a peacekeeper in an environment that exists solely because of its ability to disrupt (and profit from) peace. It didn't make sense to me how the other guys in the club can do these awful awful things (as they should have been doing) but with the exception of some revenge killings and shooting someone on the highway Jax simply wasn't devious. Last night seems to have changed that. I thought the killing of OPie was as over the top as the show has gotten, but when Jax told the guard "I'm getting out of here now and there is nothing you can do to stop it. I'm going to find out who you are. And I am going to kill you" I thought FINALLY Jax seems to understand his place in the world. ANd when he talked to Pope about Tigg it seemed like he was just trying to get his friend out of jail. But when he talked to Tigg it seemed like he was serious - he's going to use Tigg, who he now hates for getting them in to this mess, and then he very possibly might be done with him for good.
Fascinating

COME ON, MAN!!! within the last year, one of my favorite characters from each of these shows has been killed off:- Boardwalk Empire- Walking Dead- Breaking Bad- Sons of AnarchyAntoine on Treme, Jessica on True Blood, and Boyd on Justified better all keep their heads on a swivel...
Do you watch Game of Thrones? And they better not kill off Antoine. Kill Davis first.
yes, but I'm actually afraid to mention any names so as not to jinx them.

Wasn't it Clay who lied to Tigg and told him it was the blacks who shot him that sent off Tigg? If Jax had let Ope kill Clay then they wouldn't be in this mess. "Oh what a tangled web we weave"

Cool.

Now Hurst is free to be Jack Reacher...oh wait, nevermind. Even though he'd be ideal for the role, we're supposed to believe Tom Cruise is a 6'5 former MP monster. :kicksrock:

Good episode, IMO. Sad to see Opie go. And Clay may somehow be managing to be even more rotten this year than last, which is hard to believe.

As ridiculous as this show is I find myself looking forward to next week more this season than any other.

It has basically become something like a TV show that is filmed the same way Grand Theft Auto was made - small vignettes that you must play through that all incorporate themselves into a bigger storyline.

I'm not sure who I have the most disdain for Clay or Gemma. Jax's wife looks hard this year. I don't like the look and do not buy that she is all bad ### now. So the deal is that she is no longer a surgeon but she can practice medicine during the day and be a biker ##### at night. Whatevah.

still :lmao: at Gemma's outrage when she found out Clay was with that whore. I had to rewind that b/c it was so rich - up there with Tig's reaction to his daughters death. I hope they get nominated for an Emmy next year. They deserve it.

Anyone else hoping that pope and the guard end up in the box by seasons end?
Clay too. Of all the evil #### that SOB has ever pulled, turning rat on a perfectly good whorehouse might be his lowest stunt yet.
Crap, I missed that Clay did this... is it assumed or were they obvious about it?
I just assumed. They never said for sure though.
I was under the impression that it was Ashley Tisdale who set the raid in motion.

It's a shame that they got rid of the whore house. Some nice tail including Ashley Tisdale getting her ### kicked by Gemma.
I thought that was her. Interesting career move. Not sure what Disney will think
Seems like it's SOP for young/kiddie-ish actresses with aspirations of becoming legit. actresses do something fairly racy/edgy to make that clean break. Anne Hathaway did Havoc (google it). Jessica Biel did that insane magazine spread. Once you make that break, I assume that agents stop approaching you with certain projects.

She's 26 now, doubt she's getting those Disney roles now. It's just funny she got the #### kicked out of her while playing a prostitute. There were some photos of he riding on Jaxs bike, could get interesting!

How great would it be if they just never mention the prison guard again?
Why didn't the guard just beat the ever-loving #### out of Jax the second he threatened him? "What? You're going to find out where I live and kill me? Oh, here's the door. Never mind. Check you later."

Checking in from teh pasts....

Clay just killed piney. I hope that cumtray gets offed in the most violent and painful manner possible.

Beat the **** out of him or kill him? I mean, it seems to me the last thing you want to do to a guy who just legitimately threatened to kill you would be to beat him up but let him live. And, if you kill him, you know he's got guys waiting in line. Basically, that guard was screwed no matter what he did.

So why not kneecap him again? Put him in the infirmary. Etc etc.

B/c the guard is more scared of Pope - who is sitting the Warden's office calling all the shots anyway - than he is of Jax?

For what purpose? How is that going to prevent Jax from killing him later? And if you keep attacking him maybe he decides to go after your family too. Either you're gonna put him and the rest of the Sons that are in prison in the ground or.....There is no or. Either you accept your fate or you put all of the Sons in the ground.

This too.

While on the topic of the guards, how do they expect to clean this up? An inmate is suddenly dead? How do you explain the blunt-force trauma blows that cracked the back of the guy's head open from the autopsy? If Pope's running things, how isn't this done in an easier-to-conceal manner than having some dopey guards betting $20 on a gladiator-style fight that leaves a lot of questions behind?

The prison they are in, there is a reason they had the niners come in and do it. They don't need to cover much up I don't think.

I doubt "guard induced gladiator games" will be on the autopsy report.

Guys from one gang were able to corner a guy from another gang. Guards can't be everywhere. Oh, well. Bad things happen to bad people.

But you have a dead inmate with the back of his skull broken open. Just seems like if someone wanted to pursue his death (and people on the outside will obviously have knowledge of what went down), then any story of how Opie was (presumably) killed by another prisoner would have to be pretty carefully constructed.

Pope owns everyone involved. It's going nowhere.

Not like they used to do it for real or anything....http://articles.cnn.com/2000-05-26/justice/corcoran.prison_1_inmate-fights-prison-guards-preston-tate?_s=PM:LAW

The 9er who actually did the deed was one of the biggest guys I have ever seen
There definitely seemed to be some agreement that he was batting "clean-up."I'm aware of the gladiator scandals in CA prisons, I guess in the cast of SOA, it's a matter of whether they pursue legal action against the guards. Maybe it doesn't go anywhere, but the fact that you have people who witnessed it, and those accounts are going to inevitably be consistent with an autopsy, could cause an issue. My whole point is that it doesn't really jibe with Pope's MO, as it's needlessly sloppy to stage a gladiator fight instead of just having some mope stab him and make it look like a prisoner/prisoner beef.
