Another Marvel hit. I loved this film. Holland is hands down the best Parker/Spider-Man we've gotten. This really was the Spider-Man film his character has long needed and to see it so intelligently woven into the MCU was really impressive.

Also loved Tony Stark's arc in this story. The evolution of his character since the first Iron Man has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of the MCU for me. With each film, we get a new layer and in this one it's the father figure, trying not to make the same mistakes his own father did. Great stuff even though it didn't dominate the primary story (which it shouldn't).

Keaton also good as the Vulture. Again, I liked how his motivations were crafted.

Everyone knows by now to stay all the way to the end of a Marvel film but you absolutely positively have to do it for this film. You will not be disappointed.

Tony's not dumb. He knows he needs Cap back. Just gonna be tough to navigate through all that's happened. 

That's assuming Cap will return. Steve Rogers likely will, but maybe Cap is gone forever.

looks like the time line is a bit of a mess now with Spiderman introducing conflicting dates (one that I missed involving Aaron Davis).  From the quote they list from Fiege, it sounds like they don't care too much.  And to be fair, in the spirit of the comics, the time lines are broken and retconned a billion times.

The second article is a much more detailed look and concludes it is broken beyond repair and we should just ignore it now and enjoy.

one fun piece of trivia I read that related to the Ferris Bueller scene.

The director wanted the cast to really understand how to make high school feel on the screen, so he had the cast sit through a marathon of John Hughes's movies in the genre.

I'm fine with them casting Zendaya to play MJ, but why did they have to change her name to Michelle?

She was playing the role much differently than we saw Dunst play her but I think it is suppose to be the MJ as in the love interest for Peter.  They certainly set that up for the next movie.

From what I read, the writers just had some fun with the rename so that the reveal at the end would be more surprising.

 
Saw it today & thought it was good, not great. Not tier 1 MCU but near the top of tier 2. A fan who loved SpiderMan but didn't keep up with the MCU would have likely felt like they missed something.

I think they are laying the groundwork for the Sinister Six, & I think that's exciting.

Does anyone think Marvel can pull off a Beyonder storyline in the future?

Secret Wars?

 
Saw it today with the family.  It was a fun movie and my 13 year old daughter loved it.  I think I preferred the Tobey editions but the actor was pretty good.  

As for the credits, I was very disappointed we stayed until the end.  Complete waste of time.  Do not recommend. 

 
Saw it this morning. Really loved it.  Probably my favorite Spiderman movie. I disliked the last actor so much I didn't bother seeing the last movie. Thought Toby was good, but Holland just hit the mark better for me. Just a great movie all the way through.

 
How much do I love Spider-Man? The one and only time I wrote a letter to a newspaper was when the Chicago Tribune stopped publishing the comic strip daily. In the 90s iirc lol.  I was a married adult in my mid twenties.

I subscribed to 2 and sometimes 3 monthly SM titles when I was a kid in the 80s, and idolize Stan Lee to this day. I have Star Wars level regard for Spider-Man.

I have some gripes. Aunt May should be old, and referred to as "aunt", and not hot. Sorry ILM, but Sony's effects guys do better web slinging than you. And why do so many people know your secret identity, Spidey? And why do the movies insist on ignoring the small screen? Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin needs to be in this franchise imo. 

But Tom Holland was perfect. And Michael Keaton's Vulture was fantastic. And there was just enough but not too much Tony Stark.

I said it after seeing Civil War but Holland acts like an actual teenager, not a mid-to-late 20s guy trying to act young. There's a sense of authenticity with Holland that Maguire and Garfield both lacked in my opinion. That right there grounds the film more completely. Add on a great story like this one with plenty of layers (I said before and will say again, I loved Tony Stark's arc in this) and you have a really good film. 

 
The whole casting was great.  From Holland to Downey to Keaton to Favre (?).  Spot on and lots of fun. 

For me, this was a little movie that seemed really big.

Was thinking the bolded during the movie, and if I had one gripe that was it.

Seems like every Spiderman movie, the bad guy learns his secret identity.

Edit to add: Ok, if I get 2 gripes, the other was the casting of Flash. No complaints about the ethnicity change, but I don't like that he became a pipsqueak with no qualities worthy of being envious of. Not enough to ruin the movie though, obviously.

Definitely worth the wait.

Good flick. I love Tomei but dont like her as aunt May. Aunt May should be old with a white bun , not hot. 

 
I really enjoyed it...but definitely had a problem with so many people knowing Spiderman's identity.

My biggest gripe is the construction clean up crew (not even construction builders...the freaking clean up crew) were all smart enough to create technology that rivaled Tony Stark, the billionaire genius.

And the time thing...so odd to mess up the dates like that.

 
Heading to Michigan for a week and if it rains, I plan on taking the boys to see it. If it doesn't we'll see it when we get back

Not all of them. Just the Tinkerer, Phineas Mason. And he wasn't creating the more astounding bits of it. He was adapting the alien tech to work with human tech. But that's why they had to keep stealing more alien tech, because he could only adapt it, he couldn't recreate it. 

Stark on the other hand, could study it and figure out how to recreate it without having to scavenge.

I know a lot of people don't like that Aunt May is hot but Marisa's age seems much more appropriate to a high school kid than Rosemary Harris was for Toby's Aunt May.  

Rosemary was 75 when Spiderman came out in 2002.

Having loved Marisa since My Cousin Vinny, I am more than happy to have her in the Marvel family.

Just got back. I like Holland as Spidey. And I liked Keaton as the Vulture he definitely brought some depth to the villian. Marisa didn't bother me as the Aunt although I am.a traditionalist and the older aunt didn't bother me either. I don't think it was quite as good as some of the hype would lead you to believe but it was certainly one of the best Spidey outings. So glad they didn't do the whole origin over. I think it was a good foundation to build from for the next two.

I do hate that they always seem to seriously under play Spider sense. He is supposed to be almost impossible to hit. They also seriously under play his speed. He can run at sustained high speeds and of course his movement speed should be way too much for a normal person. Maybe that's too tough for film I don't know.

But those are nits. It was a good story. It was a good Spidey. And it was a good villian. I'd go 8 out of 10.

Still the best super hero movie of late is Logan. And I should.just say it was an excellent  movie. Genre doesn't matter.

That is one thing I noticed as well.  It seemed he almost didn't have that ability at all.

 
The director and Kevin Feige have done some interviews after the past week and said that they didn't want to put spidey sense in this movie because they thought it would crowd things too much and that it had already been done to death in the previous films. They've hinted that this version is still young and may "develop" the spider sense more over time so it may show up more in future movies.

I guess that makes sense but in the comics he had it from day one. It's integral to his abilities to me and I don't think it can really be overdone.

I think it was heavily suggested in the scene when he was fighting WS and Falcon but don't recall if it was specifically spelled out. They may not have been thinking that far ahead because adding Aunt May and Spiderman in was kind of a last minute thing. I think I read that Marisa Tomei wasn't signed until about a week or two before shooting her scenes and she didn't even know who she was playing at first.

 
I enjoyed the movie overall.

I'm in the camp that isn't a big fan of hot Aunt May because I do like following the comics when appropriate...  but I didn't let that detract from the movie.

I'm not a fan of having multiple people knowing his identity... that was always a big part of Spider-man.

Not a huge fan of the Stark tech in his suit... but that didn't bother me much either.

The vulture character was well done.. Keaton is awesome...  and I was fine with them using "Ned"  as a "Ganke" style character..  In the Miles Morales Spider-Man he has an overweight Asian friend named Ganke that knows his identity and is helping him out.. and it works, and I thought it worked in this movie also.

 
I watch most of the hero movies - both DC and Marvel.  i think this is a 7.5 movie - but as a Spiderman movie I would probably drop to a 6.

Bit of a traditionalist but I give movies a wide berth to make changes when logical - but I felt there was no need to include Iron Man into Spidey's origin.  And it doesn't even fit the Captain America timeline.  Spiderman appears to have practically no real resume when meeting IM - other than petty crooks - so why throw him into a fight with the Avengers?

Too much was done for comedy - the suit upgrades, Ned was a terrible character.  Give them credit for making the Vulture a credible movie villain.

And there was a moment of greatness, from the time of Peter going to Liz's house to leaving the dance - and I had hopes they would cash in on the final conflict - but it was not to be.

I jumped out of my seat when Keaton answered the door. Holy #### that was awesome. 

 
It sounds like we can all agree that they really did the Vulture well. So many of the Marvel villains are caricatures that are much better suited to still panel than live action. I think making the Vulture engaging was probably one of the more challenging problems that the movie makers faced and they nailed it imo.
