Elway is 2-3 as a player, and 1-1 as an exec? Please correct me if Im wrong, he has been involved in 7 Super Bowls?
Think that's right. Broncos have been in more Super Bowls than any other team sans the Steelers.
but they only have 4 HOFers go figure
Like I said in the other thread, I'm an old school Broncos hater from way back. You know who has to be in the HOF IMO? Steve Atwater, that dude was tremendous.
Yeap, him along with grad and meck.
Louis Wright - had only 26 career interceptions. in his prime it was like 2 a year. Bronco fans know why. Nobody threw his way because he was so good

Congrats to Denver and their fans.

I have no dog in this fight but to say this was a well officiated game is ridiculous. I thought the refs were horrible and significantly affected the outcome of the game. The league has had a problem all year. Another poor display tonight.
examples? the non-overturn on the replay was a good call IMO.

could have/should have called PI on the Ginn play, but they didn't call PI all night.

other than that, I'm not sure what else there could be to complain about
I thought Cotchery's catch was good but maybe I missed something. Others saw it hit the turf; I did not.Non-PI on Ginn as mentioned. Plus a big non call on Talib offside on a Panthers FG. I don't recall if it would have given them a first down. Thought I saw a roughing the punter on Norwood's big return but they never showed a replay of the contact. Refs missed the obvious sack on Peyton in the 1st quarter, forcing Rivera to burn his last challenge. At least a couple more that I don't recall. Oh, I thought the defensive holding in the end zone looked ticky tack. Not a big deal.

The first quarter calls, the missed PI, the roughing the punter and the missed offsides all had a significant effect IMO.
The missed sack was a bit of a strange play. The guy grazed Manning in the sack on the way by...full speed I didn't see it and Manning did a good job of selling it. Rivera had a choice to challenge or not. He was stupid for challenging that and very fortunate he didn't need that challenge. 2nd and 10 or 2nd and 15 deep in their own end...really didn't matter.

I forgot about the Talib offsides on the FG. Don't think it would have given them a first down but that was the one Gano clanged off the upright. I commented about it after it happened live, but on the replay, I thought he timed it perfectly. But they only showed the one replay so I might be wrong.

In any case, most NFL games have WAY more blown calls than that. In a pressure situation, I would say they did an admirable job.

Article is pretty lengthy but interesting.

..."A "flaw" in the 2015 National Football League schedule gave teams in the Panthers and Patriots divisions the rare opportunity to beat up on the same eight teams from the NFL's two weakest divisions, the AFC South and NFC East, said Stephen Miller, vice chair of Rutgers' mathematics department."
About time someone else recognized this. It's the same reason Manning threw 55 TDs one year. The schedule he played consisted of 8 games against the worst defenses in the league. The schedule the Falsons, Saints Bucs and Panthers was just as easy. Panthers had the easiest because the also got the Saints twice while every other team in the division had the Panthers D twice.

Peyton Manning, Super Bowl 50: 13-for-23, 141 yards, 0 touchdowns, 1 interception, 56.6 passer rating.

John Elway, Super Bowl XXXII: 12-for-22, 123 yards, 0 touchdowns, 1 interception, 51.9 passer rating.

It happens, a win is a win.

The Saints had a chance to beat the Panthers on the last play both games while scoring a load of points, including one with Luke McCown. A decent QB for Denver would have made tonight's game a blowout.

Congrats Broncos fans. Awesome for Peyton and also for Demarcus Ware who won his first ring as well. Von Miller and the DEF are just relentless.

So happy that Peyton goes out on top. Gets my vote for greatest QB ever.

Carolina reminds me a lot of the 2012 49ers and most people thought they'd roll over the Ravens.
The 2012 49ers did not have a league MVP at QB.
Record for league MVP QB's in the Super Bowl since Warner in 1999:

0-6

Newton - 2015

Peyton - 2013

Peyton - 2009

Brady - 2007

Gannon - 2002

Warner - 2001
None of those MVP's had 630yds rushing and 10 TD's to go with MVP caliber passing stats.... and none of them were named Cam Newton....Irrelevant stat.. Thanks for the insight though
It is an irrelevant stat in that it likely has absolutely no predictive value whatsoever. But to claim that Cam's season was somehow more special then every one of those seasons is just silly. I would argue that several of those seasons are far more impressive than the season cam just put together. The fact that Cam did it as a dual threat makes his accomplishments somewhat unique when compared to those other seasons but that doesn't make it better.
Wasn't saying that their seasons were any better or worse... just saying that who gives a #### about those seasons??

Cam is a different type of player, he is a 260lb QB who is a very athletic runner, and a clear goal line weapon. Cunningham, Steve Young, and Vick weren't goal line weapons like that by any means. The point is Cam's play this year is very difficult to defend seeing how the Panthers offense is the #1 scoring offense, the running game, and how he has become a true dual threat. Not to mention they just destroyed the Seahawks and Cardinals who had top notch defenses...

think whatever you want..
Updated my list.

37 pages of goodness to sort through later this week. Someone wondered if georg013 wohld be back after the game. Short answer? Hell yes. Said it from day one. Cam wouldnt be able to handle the pressure. Lol.

Much respect to Carolina. Great year. However, Denver has been there and knows what is in store. Cam and the Panthers WILL face their greatest challenge yet. The D3nver defense is unlike anything they have faced all season. Dont give me the Arizona defense crap.
It's different but not necessarily better than the Seahawks D, whom the panthers beat twice.
Yes. We are better than Seattle sir.

It seems that people are projecting a Panthers' victory for all the same reasons most were projecting a Patriots' victory today. Hmmm... I like it.
yup. When you see people saying the Panthers D and Bronco D is a wash, you know its gonna be....fun.
Panthers D is not what Denvers D is. People seem to be sleeping on Denvers D. There really is no team applying the kind of pressure Denver is. Cam will be running for his life in two weeks.
Hmmmm....

43-8 seems like two years ago.

Great defense and a great win by the best team in the league. That is all. Book is closed until the end of next season. Stop gripping bro. You come off as desperate.

Outstanding game, Denver defense! These last two games against two excellent offenses in NE and Carolina were truly amazing performances. Each opponent presented a different set of challenges and Wade Phillips put together two very good gameplans, executed to perfection by Miller, Ware and company.

Enjoy, Denver fans. I walked by Levis stadium today about two hours before kickoff and it was a sea of orange jerseys. Appeared to be about 3-1 in favor of Denver fans.

:lmao:

Can't underestimate the power of the white jersey. White jerseys now 32-18... Could there be some tangible advantage to wearing white jerseys or is this just a strange anomaly?

Regardless, I think all future designated Super Bowl home teams would be foolish to not wear white. Just in case...

Congrats to the Broncos and their fans. Outstanding defensive performance. Both defenses actually played very well, but we fell short.

I'm happy for Peyton Manning and glad to see him go out on top. Top 3-5 QBs of all time. Denver Broncos = quality organization. Well done.

Going to be nice weather for the victory parade.

Time now to enjoy the deranged hyperbole of fans of the winning team. It always happens. Its a function of unbridled joy. That said, I don't think Bronco fans will ever be able to equal the delusion of Patriot or Seahawk fans.

Interesting win Denver, congrats. Its not often a team with markedlyfewer yards and first downs wins a game so handily on the scoreboard. Of course two times Denver was stopped not by the Panthers, but by the goal line.

Very bullish on Panthers prospects next season. Honestly, KB would have made a huge difference. I believe you have to take baby-steps to championships - this is just one step. Panthers will go into the playoffs next year with Superbowl experience - they will be more hungry, focused, and able to deal with adversity.

The offensive play calling for the Panthers was baffling.
Agreed.....seemed to be zero in game adjustment, simply awful
The reason I picked Carolina after the way Denver's defense handled the Pats was their running game. Don't you neutralize Ware and Miller by running up the gut with guys like Stewart and Newton? With Cam throwing off target in the first quarter I expected a heavy dose of running but it never really came.

Yeah, top to bottom the Panthers are a very complete team. They can play D, run the ball, and have a MVP QB. All bode well for many return trips late in the playoffs.
