I missed that fight.   Im still shocked Teofimo lost.  Dude was way too cocky and Kambosis was game AF.  Good fight.  Looks like Kambosis will fight Haney next which should also be a great fight!

I didn't pick Kambosos to win but was concerned about Teo's layoff.  Can't  say Teo looked rusty after the first round, Kamloops just was much better than advertised.

Agreed.  Teos game plan was horrible also.  Every round his dad would say he won it.  And tell him to go for the knockout.  I think he could have won that by not taking that approach.

I noticed that too in the corner and it very well may have made the difference.   I've seen fighters get told they are winning every round when they clearly aren't.   It either leads to missed opportunities or distrust in the rest of the corner's advice.

wow, what a fight. neither fighter has never been knocked down, still the case. davis may have broke his left hand in the 11th and still may have won?

Just caught the highlights.  Thought this would be an easy win so i went to sleep.  Plus i thought it was a little ridiculous for pay $79 for this ppv.

Impressive win after breaking his hand.   Looked like he definitely would have got him out of there if that didnt happen.

Having said that, IMO he starts too slow.  Folks like Haney, Kambosos could potentially out point him.  Now, realistically, i dont think Haney can keep tank from walking through his punches which likely means he would get KOs.  Kambosos, on the other hand im not sure, i think Tank wins though.  Haney i would want him to do the fight at 140 where he might have more power.  He keeps looking drained at 135 and i think thats hurting his power.  He needs more power to keep these guys off of him.

If i were matchmaking....

Kambosis vs Haney next

Tank likely takes a bit of time off the heal.  Let him get the winner at 140.  Or tank should fight Teo at 140 or josh taylor at 140.  I would take ryan garcia as a consolation but i dont think Ryan has a real shot there.  Plus Ryan hasnt earned a shot.

Is 140 shaping up to be a top division soon?

I remember dang good fights on CBS every Saturday afternoon & HBO with title fights at least once a month.  All weight classes.  Now it's mostly $79 for whatever.  I'm a big fight fan but man things have changed for the worse.  IMHO

3rd that.  I didn't feel the need to pay to see Tank the night after a good Haney-JoJo match on DAZN.  Had it been Tank-Rolly, it would have been more of an internal debate.  Still, I paid for Canelo-Plant last month and would have been open to paying for Crawford-Porter but I had plans that I decided not to break.  Also paid for Fury-Wilder III in October, so between streaming services and PPVs, I couldn't justify it and didn't really try to.

I will say, ordered the last Fury Wilder fight last minute & had 7 guys over.  we got our money's worth.

i pay 16 bucks a month for a good iptv service so i don’t pay anything extra to watch these, no way i’m lay 79 for these fights

My year-end awards

Knockout of the Year- Oscar Valdez KO 10 Miguel Berchelt.  No surprise this fight provided explosions but Valdez was an underdog, albeit a very live one.  Valdez scored a fourth-round knockdown and opened up a lead on the scorecards.  Berchelt knew it and started abandoning caution in looking for that Hail Mary shot.  That allowed Valdez to land a picture-perfect left hook counter that sent Berchelt crashing to the canvas face-first, ending the fight and completing his upset bid.

Round of the Year- Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Round 1.  This fight had been rescheduled nine times due to various issues, including Lopez getting COVID.  Nevertheless, Lopez was a runaway 13-1 favorite and came in very visibly looking to end things early.  Instead, Kambosos fought right back and landed a sharp counter to shockingly drop Lopez.  Lopez got up and the two continued to swing away, setting the tone for what the fight would become.

Fight of the Year- Tyson Fury KO 11 Deontay Wilder.  Far from a technical masterpiece, these two finished their trilogy each looking to end things early after an unusually disciplined first round from Wilder.  Both landed big before Fury scored the first knockdown in the third round.  Wilder looked like he was on the way out, yet rallied and scored two huge knockdowns in the fourth and suddenly it was Fury who looked like he was about to be taken out.  Fury recovered and regained control, though Wilder continued to get shots in.  Wilder went down again in the 10th, yet had Fury in trouble by the end of the round.  Finally, in Round 11, Fury ended things with a right hook out of the clinch.  It was finally over after the 5th knockdown, an exhausting affair for even the spectators.

Fighter of the Year- Canelo Alvarez.  Fury, Kambosos and Oleksandr Usyk all scored bigger victories this year but it was the quantity of Canelo's work that earned him this award.  Three fights in 2021, with 3 wins and 3 knockouts.  In the process, Canelo unified the four belts at super middleweight for what that's worth; more impressively, he became the first lineal super middleweight champion since Andre Ward.  Two of his foes, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant, were undefeated and very different stylistically, yet were dismantled in almost identical fashion.  All hail the crimson king!

Brook Khan.  Yea its about 10 years late but im still excited.  Who yall got?  i favor Khan but would have favored Brook about 5 years ago.

There have been some good fights lately after a lull during the NFL playoffs.  Bad judging robbed Jack Catterall of a legacy win, as he would have joined the four-belt club.  This weekend is Chocolatito vs Martinez on DAZN in a must-see.

Yea caterall got robbed should have been at least a draw.  It may get changed though.  Also Taylor better reconsider fighting Bud.  That won’t go well.

Bud won't even bother now.  Taylor diminished his marketability and there are many more lucrative options at welter.

Yea i got spence ud or stoppage in the 10th.  He looks great shape.  As long as the layoff doesn’t hamper him he should be fine.  but ugas is not slouch and the fight should be good.

he said yesterday Crawford is next.  We shall see.  Crawford isn’t signed anywhere so making that fight should be easier now.

I didn't watch tonight.   Sounds like I missed a fight of the year candidate.   Spencer Crawford looks like it will finally happen now.  About time the top 2 welters meet.

And the next generation will be ready for the winner soon.  Ortiz and Boots look legit.  But Conor Benn may be the best of the new school.  He was absolutely explosive today and has a high intensity, unrelenting style reminiscent of young Mike Tyson that should prove to be very marketable. I would be all over a Spence-Benn match come fall 2023

Yea it was a great fight and Spence looked excellent.

I suspect they will leave Benn alone.  I can see the winner tossing the belts and going up.  I also see Spence and Bud retiring early and not going until late 30s.  But hell i would love to see it and if they WERE going to fight him better now then once matured.  Because he does look to be a real one!

Fury/Whyte this weekend.

At this point, the only person who beats Fury, is Fury.
i dont think its out of the question that AJ could beat him but i think Fury is going to retire tbh.  though retiring leaves alot of money on the table in the AJ fight.  Or Usyk for that matter.

I do hope we see fury against the aj usyk winner but i do think he’s walking away.  He will do that money grab then go to wwe.  🤷🏽‍♂️

Now let’s hope we get Crawford spence!

Disappointed with the Fury/Whyte fight, thought Whyte had basically zero chance to win, but didn't even give himself a chance. No real interest in who he fights next, if Usyk beats AJ then Fury/Usyk looks much like last night or worse as regardless of how good Usyk is, he will simply not be able to get inside Fury's jab or do any sort of real damage if he does, and it'll just be a case of Fury deciding whether to knock him out at will or just keep it simple and win on points. Fury/Joshua would be £££ but Joshua is not good and has already been shown up by someone who is able to box. This is, of course, if Fury actually bothers to fight again, no qualms if he doesn't, simply another case of boxing continuing to kill itself because nobody can co-operate to give actual meaningful fights

I could see Usyk getting under the jab and getting inside.  Fury has proven himself at infighting though so getting inside would just be Step 1.  Nevertheless, Usyk would be the most unique - and disciplined - challenger Fury could face and is the one I would most like to see.

Had no expectation of Whyte winning, so I did not order the fight.  Doesn't seem like I missed much.  I did catch the Spence-Ugas replay and while Spence was deservedly up on the scorecards and earned the stoppage, Ugas showed me a lot.  I hope he sticks around and tries to remain in the title picture.

I watched the PPV at our local theater.  They run them for $10 a seat for big fights and UFC.

Except for the spectacle that is Tyson Fury and his entrance walk, you didn't miss much.  He toyed with Whyte for the most part. He did hint that this was his last fight a few times during a couple pre-taped interviews.  That's about all I got out of it.  The prelims were unspectacular to say the least.

Agree.  Id like to see Thurman ugas.  Winner fights one of the new young bucks.
