As a fan, I wish Kell'a trainer let it go longer. But I get it. Kell's legs were unsteady and he wasn't able to get himself off the ropes. He was done.

Brook's eye was starting to give him issues in the 5th, and ggg was having his way with him at that point. Its an interesting what-if had kb not had his orbital broken, but his trainer did the right thing. You dont want your guy to lose an eye, and imo, he had no chance of winning that fight at that point.

Also worth noting that brook was in major trouble in the 1st. Brook boxed him very well, but golovkins power covered for a pretty mediocre effort by ggg standards.

What a snoozefest fight with Monroe-Rosado, didnt expect that. I was excited for the Canelo fight despite never seeing Smith fight since he has an 8 KO streak but you know youre in a fight out of your league when its your first fight out of your home country and its against a top P4P fighter. Saw Canelo -1200 favorite, ewwweee

Canelo been landing big shots since round 1, Smith been landing big shots since round 3. After 6 rounds, neither dude looks phased. Smith keeps looking better but not sure he has even won a round

Smith really hasnt fought anyone decent until tonight.

Smith actually impressed me, I dont think he won a round but he was landing a lot of power punches on Canelo routinely after the first couple rounds. I cant remember the last elite fighter who was as dedicated to throwing body shots as Canelo, although sometimes it seems like it leaves his gameplan as well. I think Canelo will beat GGG is he continues to go back to the body like tonight.

so canelo brook next?  Canelo Lemeuix? Or will he actually do the GGG fight?
Let's see what the buyrate was.  If it was low enough, it may force them to make GGG his next ppv opponent

Guessing 300-350k. Khan did 4, I don't think this topped Khan, given the backlash.

I think he's going to be mired at these type of numbers until he does GGG. And HBO must be pressuring him somewhat to do it as well.

I don't even think what de la hoya is pulling is smart from a pure business sense. If Canelo fights his ### off, it's not going to hurt his stock. I think that's true of all boxers who are considered the underdog in a fight they lose. Honestly, I think Smith's stock rose this weekend. As long as Canelo isn't like literally murdered in the ring, he'll come out of it ok from a boxing perspective.

Did some back-of-the-envelope math: I think DLH offered K2 something like a 45mm/15mm guaranteed split. I think they're estimating around 1.5mm ppv buys, and a 60mm purse.

I think GGG is probably worthy of something like a 60/40 split, that seems more fair, given that Canelo's gonna need GGG to do real numbers at this point.

good post.  Canelo & GGG need each other.   Make the match!!!

Canelo broke his thumb and is out for the year, possibly robbing us of a scintillating Alvarez/Willie Monroe Jr showdown this December. How can we go on.

BTW the Glowacki/Usyk fight is on YouTube from this weekend, it wasn't shown in the US. Usyk can go. Love that they're fast-tracking some of these experienced Eastern European fighters like Lomachenko and Usyk, I mean why mess around too much and waste their prime years.

Also Jo Jo Diaz looked very solid on the Canelo undercard.

Klitschko/Fury 2 off, again, due to Fury being unfit to fight b/c of depression. Joshua might take Fury's place. Which would be good for boxing fans, given that even an old/possibly shot Klitschko would be Joshua's first real test, and Fury/Klitschko 1 wasn't exactly Hagler/Hearns in terms of excitement.

Depression's a #####.

maybe hes depressed because someone told him the truth...that he cant sing worth a penny

A. Ward vrs. Kovalev 11/19 PPV  light heavyweights.   Now there is a fight worth paying for.  Love Kovalev's power but is it enough?

I lean Ward, but not with any sort of high degree of confidence. Don't think Kovalev's going to be able to pin him down for a long enough, sustained period to be able to seal the deal. I think Ward is good enough to smother him and outwork him inside, and not give him the space to hit him with bombs. Think it's gonna be a UD in the 8-4 to 7-5 range.

Hopefully that number makes them take notice.  There's no non-GGG opponent I would spend PPV $s on for a Canelo fight right now, and I'm clearly not the only one.  I'd sooner buy a PPV featuring GGG-Jacobs (which fortunately will be an HBO fight if it happens).
Daniel Jacobs? Has he got back to that status now? I love Jacobs, that would be a good fight.

Pretty stoked for Lomachenko/Walters and Miura/Salido near year's end, if GGG/Jacobs came together, that'd be the cherry on top.

Shaping up to be a pretty good year for the lighter weight-classes, although welterweight's been a dud in 2016. Apparently Garcia/Thurman is being set for March...

Klitschko/Joshua reportedly set for December 10. I am fairly suspicious that VK might be shot, and Joshua's length is going to be enough to at least secure him a decision in front of a partisan crowd (fight is supposedly going to be in Manchester).

Anyone watching Pac-Vargas tonight?  I'll be paying the cover at Ojos Locos to watch.  I think Vargas has a shot and the undercard is very solid.

Yea got some short ribs on the smoker now.  I cant not watch pacquiao.  The next month or two we have some great fights!  Cant wait.

stephen a smith is now a boxing commentator?!!!?!? oy vey, shoot me now
Yeah, think it is a (hopefully) one-time thing, since Top Rank went solo with this PPV. Hopefully HBO is back next time.

Given his age/opponent, Pac looked great. It wasn't the relentless, always-on-you prime Pacquiao, and he clearly doesn't have any stopping power at 147, but he was effective throughout. It's somewhat absurd that Mayweather sitting ringside garnered as much media attention as the fight itself.

Sounds like he's going to be around for the time being. Brook's likely to vacate his IBF, leaving it to the winner of Spence/Horn. Thurman and Garcia are scheduled to unify their belts in March. Of course, Arum's picking fights pretty selectively, there's no way on Earth that he's going to put Pac in against Crawford. But with Spence lined up for a title shot, Pacquiao presumably fighting twice next year, and Thurman v. Garcia, 2017's already lining up to be a better year for the welterweight division. Thurman/Porter was good, Pac/Vargas was good, other than that, eh.

BTW, Oscar Valdez is a very, very bad mofo. Credit to Osawa for hanging in there for 7 rounds.

Thought Pac looked good, not great.   He still has the hand speed.   Gotta respect a man that went up that much in weight & still stands in there with the bigger guy.   Kudos Pac!

He fights smart. His speed/power is down a couple ticks, but he makes up for it by picking his spots and just racking up rounds.

Still fun to watch.

Been out of this thread for awhile. Back for HBO. Right now we got the best HW in the world about to smash. Luis Ortiz is a beast.

After about 4 rounds I just turned it off. It was god awful.
Know what's even more depressing? Ortiz signed with Matchroom. That means he and Joshua are never going to fight. Fury's out of action for who knows how long, Klitschko obviously doesn't have much left, doesn't leave many enticing matchups.
