He usually fights at a lower weight class, so I don't think he will have trouble making weight for this fight.

He does look far bigger than usual though.
Agreed, he's never had any issues with weight and he's moving up. He looks big which might be good imo. I don't think the size difference will matter.

shaping up to be a good fight.  GGG vrs. Canelo.  I like both fighters as in they don't spout off like say a A.Broner.  I'm rooting for both although hoping for a GGG win.  should be a tremendous fight.  might be a chess match for 4 rounds but then they start trading.  I'm hoping anyway.

I'm torn between the two. They are probably my favorite 2 fighters of recent years.

Oh yeah.

That was absolutely stunning. I'm shocked and a little sad. Chocolatito didn't look right.
His head and heart weren't in this fight. I don't know if it was a lack of confidence due to the previous decision, age (30's pretty old for these paperweights and he's had almost 50 pro fights) or something else, but he just didn't seem like himself. I think we've seen the last of him.

Lampley even mentioned that he looked off on Friday. I'm surprised the sharps didn't pick up on anything, he was a big favorite. Last I saw he was -355 around 8pm EDT.

The Inoue fight should have been stopped at least a round earlier, if not two. Nieves was just running away, I felt embarrassed for him after awhile.

Juan Fransisco Estrada - Carlos Cuadras was a real entertaining fight. I had it 114-113 right along with the three judges. Nice brain fart by Buffer announcing "Carlos Estrada" as the winner. Both camps thought they got the decision.

Good boxing card. Last night was sports heaven. It's sad to see Chocolatito's run end and really shocking. Inoue delivered as promised. Cuadras-Estrada was really fun and I loved the mistake on announcing the winner- only in boxing lol.

your right-"only in boxing".  such a beautiful  sport though.  Savagery & art.  everyone has a plan until they get hit.

best fighter of all time:  Roberto Duran.

boxers are the last to know they don't have it anymore & yes it is sad.   good fighter & hopefully he has some money saved.
He's done pretty well for himself, I think. He's also a star in Nicaragua, so I'm sure there'll be all sorts of post-career opportunities for him.

Lampley with the shade

Jim Lampley, who is part of the broadcast team for HBO's World Championship Boxing, does not believe Floyd Mayweather Jr. will remain in retirement.

He fully expects Mayweather to return to the ring and fight again.

Mayweather, 40 years old, was in action last month, when he returned to boxing after two years of being in retirement.

The former five division world champion stepped in the ring with UFC superstar Conor McGregor, who was making his professional debut in boxing.

Mayweather did very little in the first few rounds, allowing McGregor to get off to a good start. But once Mayweather got going, he began to break McGregor down and eventually stopped him in the tenth round.

With the pay-per-view buyrate likely dropping down at over 4 million, Mayweather stands to make a reported sum of $300 million when all of the revenue is counted up.

Lampley thought very little of that event, but believes Mayweather will still continue to fight - and says maybe he should do so against a woman - which may or may not be a jab at Mayweather's past issues with domestic violence.

"I haven't seen [Mayweather-McGregor]. I saw the stoppage, that's all I saw. And I saw the CompuBox numbers, which told me what happened in the fight. I think Floyd did a brilliant job of doing what he needed to do in the fight and giving the MMA wish-clientele something to hold on to - 'oh, Conor won the first three rounds.' I was surprised at the number of boxing experts who accepted the notion that Floyd is actually retired," Lampley told BoxingScene.com.

"Why would you be actually retired when you can make that much money that easily? Why not fight a woman next? I think there are all sorts of ways for Floyd to make more money. And I expect him to make more money."

"I think Mayweather-McGregor is already forgotten and by next week it will be way more forgotten [when Canelo Alvarez fights Gennady Golovkin]. You are going to see something spectacular next weekend - which will be a fire-fight, which will be a skilled boxing match between two really skilled fighters. There won't be any 40 year olds in the ring and there won't be any kickboxers in the ring."

I can understand Lampley not liking the event, as the argument can easily be made that the sideshow getting so much attention could harm the meaningful matches boxing has to offer.  However, as a journalist, he should have watched May-Mac, at least on replay, in order be best informed in his field.
That fight, oddly, didn't harm boxing overall in the US. I think a lot of casual fans found it entertaining, and enjoyed that Mayweather was coming forward and attacking, even if he looked (to me) like a shell of his former self.

Even the Canelo/Chavez debacle went down easy, DLH was incredibly savvy to tack the Golovkin/Alvarez announcement on to the end of that fight, immediately shifting everyone's attention away from the garbage fight they just watched. It's been a really strong year for the sport as a whole.

So GGG & Canelo this Saturday.  I'm at a wedding in Brainard MN.,but  I will not miss this fight.  I always order PPV  & watch through my TV.  Haven't had to go elsewhere to watch a fight so new to this.  How do I watch this fight in Brainard MN.  I don't know anyone so home viewing is out.  Staying at a lakeside lodge so I'm assuming cable TV.  Should I start checking local bars?  How can I watch this fight & I don't mind paying?

Does HBO let you stream online?  I know top rank does and you can pay for an HD stream.  Maybe DLH productions allows this?

Bunch of options here:  https://www.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/6zkd08/canelo_alvarez_vs_gennady_golovkin_viewing_guide/

Thanks guys!!!!!!!! Got a lot of help here including a PM sent to me.  I will be watching the fight.  A person just has to ask.

On to the fight:   Odds show a pretty even fight with a slight edge to Alvarez.   Most think Canelo is faster.  Both have sad tales growing up & getting to this point by hard work.  I like both fighters but want GGG to win.  I think he punches a little harder, a tad better jab, & think he forces the fight.  He's also 35 years old & is running out of time.  should be a very good fight!

hope busted knuckles pipes in.  Loved his story about going to the boxing hall of fame ceremony earlier in this thread.

I think that GGG knows that if this goes to the cards he aint getting a decision.  So he should be motivated to end this.  But can he?  Or will be out jab him?  Or will Canelos defense be the difference?  Or could canelo hurt GGG?

Cant wait.  :boxing:

Canelo can seriously hurt any fighter south of light heavyweight.

and GGG has been known recently of taking punches to deliver his own.  this could come down to, who has the better chin.  I really like that both are great body punchers.

This could go so many ways, it's really hard to predict an outcome.

I see GGG instituting an initial fight plan similar to what he did against Lemieux- establishing the jab and maintaining a distance.  Canelo meanwhile will look to counter, close the distance, and attack the body.

While danger will be everpresent, if the fight doesn't end early, I trust GGG's ability to adapt more than Canelo's and while he won't look truly dominant, I think he will be able to earn more late rounds.  Both guys are known for their power but both have stellar chins.  Canelo's best chance for a stoppage win is likely hooks to the body.

Bear in mind I am not wagering a single dollar so this is a very hesitant prediction. Ultimately, I see a back and forth fight that goes the distance, where GGG earns a close decision and receives a split decision.  I fear the possibility of judge's favoritism towards Canelo (especially Dave Moretti) but hopefully they render a fair decision if it goes that far.

See i dont see any way GGG gets a decision.  It could be truly dominant by GGG but if it goes to the cards i feel like Canelo will still get it.  Too much money for their cash cow riding on it.  #BECAUSEBOXING

Canelo has a rematch clause (GGG does not), so they could choose to pull the screwjob in the next fight.

Actually, GGG is favored. Think it's around -145 or -150 now. It opened at about -175.

@5D -165 GGG and over 9.5 rds is -220. I agree with Kieth above. A year ago, I would have shrugged, and been sure GGG would walk him down and stop him before 10. Now I keep seeing Canelo doing lots of damage to the body. Kovalev took a body shot in the first round and it literally changed who he was until Ward stopped him. It's fresh in my mind. I think something like that has to happen for Canelo to win. He needs to hurt GGG early and set the stage to bang and box out a decision. He's capable. The GGG Jacobs fight may have more people second guessing this than anything else. If not for that, I'd still be expecting Golvovkin to walk him down and stop it late. So maybe Jacobs is more difficult than we know, great record and all, and GGG whacks out Canelo looking like he often has. I hope so. I like Gennady quite a bit more than Saul. I'm not betting on it either though.

I had insomnia through the night. I've been awake since 7 Thursday morning. Watch me need a nap and sleep through the fight.
