Cotto made a great business decision in not paying that extortion...lost the belt anyway...why pay that nonsense.

 
Good fight. Judges had the cards pretty wide and I know lots of people had it really close. I thought Canelo's power was the clear difference as the HBO announcers hammered home. At the end of the fight, the faces of the fighters could have served as a scorecard. Canelo just pounded Cotto despite Miguel fighting a good fight.

 
So where do we go from here? Do we think Cotto will continue and if so who and at what weight? Maybe mayweather would come back and fight him? I would like to see that rematch. I thought Cotto looked good last night.

How about Canelo? Pretty sure he will fight GGG as he will fight anyone. But he should probably fight someone bigger first for a tune up.

Just saw this which is interesting. Will GGG come down to 155? That definitely neutralizes some of the risk.

Very good fight. Thought scorecards were way off. Would have scored Canelo a winner by 2 or so rounds. Cotto fought a great fight. His left hook is classic. In the end Canelo had too much power. Semi final event was great also.

Vargas (23-0-1, 17 KO) started fast in the fight, hurting Miura (29-3-2, 22 KO) in the opening round, but the Japanese titleholder didn't go down (remarkably) and battled through a harrowing first frame. In the second and third, Miura got back in the fight with some body work and a successful straight left hand, which hurt Vargas early in round four and dropped him later in that frame.

With Miura seemingly in control, Vargas made a stand in round eight, only to get badly hurt again late in the stanza, possibly surviving the round only because the bell sounded before Miura could put on the finishing touches. With cuts above and below his right eye, which was rapidly swelling shut, Vargas looked to get aggressive and turn the tide in round nine, and he did so with a crushing right hand that hurt Miura, nearly knocking him down, followed by two more clean blows that finally put Miura on the deck.

Though Miura gathered himself and returned to action, Vargas was all over him from that point on, and after several more clean shots, referee Tony Weeks was forced to stop the fight at 1:31 of round nine. At the time of stoppage, Vargas trailed on two scorecards, and the third was even.

If I am Cotto, I retire and focus on the motorboating. No need to keep taking punishment. Canelo obviously could fight GGG. Wouldn't be surprised to see him fight Lemieux. I thought I read something about Tureano Johnson being a potential mandatory also.

 
Canelo walked Cotto down all night and rightfully won the fight. Some of the scorecards were too wide but the right guy one.

There is a rematch clause so we could see Cotto/Alvarez II in 2016. However, I kind of doubt it.

GGG versus Canelo next September seems reasonable. Weight wise, anywhere from 155 to 160 seems do-able. The rarity is that both fighters actually want to fight each other instead of making excuses to not fight.

The Vargas/Muira undercard fight was the best fight of the night and perhaps a fight of the year candidate. Muira looked like he was going be knocked out in round one before righting the ship and took control for most of the fight while making a mess of Vargas' right eye in the process. Round 9 starts with Vargas was losing the fight, but manages to connect and drop Muria early in the round. Muira was out-on-his-feet before the fight was stopped.

Rigondeaux fight was a snorefest as expected. Its no wonder fans were booing from round 2 onward.

There is no mandate on it. They could agree to 160, 155, or somewhere in between. I anticipate Golden Boy will offer a 75-25 split at 160 and a 60-40 split at 155. If GGG doesn't agree, it will go to purse bid and whichever promoter bids highest will get it, which will probably be Golden Boy anyway.

Of course, Canelo can choose to vacate but I seriously doubt he'll consider that.

 
Canelo said that b/c he's the champ, he wants to stay at 155. Dunno if that's just blowing in the wind, I suppose it's all hypothetical for a fight that's really nowhere close to being made yet.

I read somewhere that Canelo re-hydrated to 171 for the Angulo fight, I imagine he's been at a similar weight for other recent fights. Nuts.

 
I wonder how much longer he's going to be able to get down to that weight and still be effective.

He's already dried out for the weigh-ins...

 
Wow did Zaveck get his ### kicked. He's got a busted eye, seems to have blown out his shoulder and I think his knee gave out. Weird ending though.

Yeah not quite sure what happened there. He was done so I guess it didn't matter, but if he wanted to quit, he didn't do a good job of it.

Very nice showing by Lara though.

Lara is so good, but he just gets too boring and too conservative in big fights against guys with power .

28 total punches landed through 3 rounds by both fighters combined. Third round, Compubox had Fury outlanding Klitschko 2-1. :yawn:

 
I've given Fury every round so far but as Lamps was saying, there's so little to choose from that he may be getting rounds while landing 4 or 5 punches.

In my mind though, Fury already has this won if he stays off the canvas.

 
I don't know if there's something wrong with Klitschko or if he's just finished. He is doing absolutely nothing. The triphammer jab isn't there and he just isn't letting his hands go. 41 power punches thrown through 9 rounds? Come on.

Spence took some shots tonight against Barrera, but still looked pretty good, decimating him in the 5th and not losing a round. He says he's having a hard time getting anyone to fight him. :shrug:

Klitschko has a rematch clause so whether or not he exercises it will be telling in my opinion. After that fight, I'm not sure he isn't ready to ride off into the sunset.

I think there's a chance we see Wilder/Jennings next, possibly with the winner facing Fury if he holds the title through his next fight. Maybe Povetkin if Klitschko hangs it up.

Been waiting to see Jacobs and Quillin fight each other for 5+ years. So glad to see Jacobs get back to this type of marquee matchup after his health issues. Excited for this fight :boxing:

 
Ref froze. Score it a knockdown or something, don't stop the fight. Jacobs was in line for a 10-8 round but I didn't think Quillin was getting tagged that badly. I was actually wondering if Jacobs was gonna punch himself out. Wow.

yea i was kind of hoping he could hold and survive the round. I think he could have potentially recovered. He needs to work on that. But he took some hard blows. Impressive win by jacobs.

 
Cant complain about the stoppage too much IMO...Jacobs landed a big blow and then was relentless. I didnt expect that early of a KO but I was really surprised Jacobs was a slight underdog in the fight.

 
I doubt anyone watched the TruTV card last night, but FOTY between Donaire and Cesar Jaurez. Absolute bloodbath. Plus, Felix Verdajo looked sharp with an easy KO win. Looks like might be able to live up to the insane hype of being the next Tito.
