My personal picks for best of 2015

Fighter of the Year - Canelo Alverez

Fight of the Year - Muira-Vargas

KO of the year - Canelo KO 3 Kirkland

Event of the Year - Mayweather-Pacquaio (not a great fight or card but the first time so many eyes were on boxing since Lewis-Tyson, or maybe even Holyfield-Tyson II)

Best Fighter most U.S. Fans are unfamiliar with - Naoya Inoue

Kovalev made an offer to Stevenson's camp for the summer, which would be book-ended by his scheduled rematch against Pascal and the big one against Ward later in the year. Could be good.

Ward's obviously fairly untested as a light heavyweight, but I'd rather see him than Stevenson. I have a feeling that Kovalev would roll Stevenson.

Saunders/GGG in talks, but Saunders says he wants more money or a home game. Amazingly, he said out loud that fighting Golovkin was a "risk", which it is, but it's not every day that you hear a fighter admit that, especially a pretty good one.

I favor Kovalev in each matchup but a fight vs Stevenson would be bombs away. Ward has been out of meaningful fights for so long, I doubt we'll ever see his best again, and he's more likely to slow the fight down into a grabfest. Not that he would but it's more likely than Stevenson. Based strictly on the ME, I likely would buy a Kovalev-Stevenson PPV - I doubt I would for Kovalev-Ward.

Interesting note: 4 of the top 10 light heavyweights, according to Boxrec, live in Canada.

Stevenson's last few fights have been tomato can-y, and I've kind of gotten the feeling that he's milking his belt. He's getting up there in years, hopefully he puts it on the line against someone of import this year.

If guess it's not just Canada but Quebec Province. That's become one of the great meccas of boxing over the last decade or so.

Catching up on Beterbiyev fights. He is a monster.

Good Lord, Wilder just knocked that guy back to Poland.

Of course, Fury is there to start the hype already for a fight that won't happen for a year.

Szpilka said that Wilder didn't have as much power as he thought, thinks Wilder's power is ovehyped. Ofcourse, he is saying this all sitting in a hospital with a concussion.

In case anyone missed the kill shot, here it is in all it's brutality.

I am really not impressed by Wilder. I keep watching hoping to see some development but it's the same thing every time.

He has a great flicking jab that can hit you from across the ring...that right is awesome. I'd like to see him use it as a lead more.

But man...does he keep that right low.

He allowed Szpilka to get in on him...land body shots and touch him up a bit too much.

There's absolutely not footwork...just stands straddled hoping to land bombs behind that jab...flatfooted as hell.

But you can't deny the results.

And seriously...I know I've said it before...how in the holy hell can a man of that size have the legs of Manute Bol?

I'll give Wilder this - while he is not fighting the division's elite, he is fighting a wide range of fighters and honing his skills. Szpilka was an unconventional southpaw. Few titleholders would make a voluntary defense against such a fighter with no monetary incentive.

That said, bring on Povetkin. If he wins that fight (and it's still a big if), he'll prove he's for real and an equal foil for the winner of the Fury-Klitschko rematch. The most money to be made would be on Fury-Wilder in London. Though as long as the winners meet, I'll be interested.

Fury looked horrible, even though he won. IMO
He did, but he looked "less bad" than Klitschko. He looked awkward but not robotic, for what that's worth.

If Fury-Wilder gets made, it will sell due to 1) significance, 2) personalities.

Only caught the second half of tonight's fight, but Guerrero was gutty although Garcia had the best of him, again, from what I saw.

Crowd booed the decision and Guerrero thinks he got jobbed. All 3 judges had it 8-4.

Kovalev-Pascal II tomorrow night. First fight was surprisingly entertaining. I don't see a different result but should be fun while it lasts.

Then why even fight?
I can't really see how Pascal can beat Kovalev. Pascal has no power to hurt him and while his unconventional style can keep the fight slow and win him rounds, he always tires late. No way he can fight the frenetic style and pace that he needs to for 12 rounds.

Nowhere near as competitive as the first fight, kind of a letdown. Can't remember such a one-sided pummeling without a knockdown since Chavez vs Camacho. Undercard fight was a snorer. Weak night.

damn missed this fight but sounds like a i didnt miss much.
You missed nothing.
Yeah wouldn't recommend unless you're a Kovalev completist.

You guys ever just look up random boxers? I wonder about this guy: http://boxrec.com/boxer/1415
This guy trained me for about a year ...he fought on the under card of the Holyfield / Forman fight...i learned a few things from him...big heavyweight ...good dude...he owned his own gym called Joe Mamas

The Smith bros. from England are also a fascinating story. Both had awful records, both fought tons of people on no/short notice, both got KO'd very little for how many L's they took. Sadly, both have committed suicide in the last few years. I'll have to look them up.

Canelo/Khan (@ 155) surprise announcement today. Nice to get a name-fighter for Alvarez I guess, but this is a complete mismatch.

yea at 155 that is quite the surprise. Im intrigued. Khan has some balls on him. Really a win win for him. Unless he gets brain damage....

Yea...gotta give Khan props...but he will get walked down handily in this.

How long until we get Canelo/GGG?

That's what I thought all this was supposed to build towards...guess we gotta build it a little longer.

He's been chasing a big fight for awhile now, to the point where he hasn't fought for a year. It's not under ideal circumstances by any means, but he's got it now.

He's a slick fighter, but I don't think Canelo's going to have any problem wading through some shots to get to unload on him.

Last year DLH said he wanted to wait 2-3 years. Now I think he's offered it to GGG, but with a laughable 90/10 split.

Canelo's always struck me a guy who's not afraid to fight anyone or take tough fights, but I think De La Hoya wants to try and wait it out until Golovkin starts to slip some, and protect his prized guy.

agreed. Im a khan fan so i have wanted him to get his big shot. I really wanted to see him fight mayweather. thought it would be an interesting matchup. This matchup is downright scary for him. But love that hes willing. Wish all boxers were like that.

GGG is Canelo's mandatory but the WBC agreed to let them negotiate terms. The camps came to an agreement that let each guy fight someone else first and then they will meet in September.

Cotto was in a similar position and paid GGG $800,000 to step aside to allow the Cotto-Canelo fight.

So Canelo has chosen Khan, which surprised me but makes perfect sense from a management perspective. Khan is a name opponent; outside of GGG, he is a bigger name than anyone currently at middleweight or junior middle. He probably brings more fans to the table than any non-GGG opponent and most of his fan base does not overlap with Canelo's, so he has the highest financial upside. And he has to rise two weight classes. He is a slick boxer but has a weak chin.

GGG/Canelo is expected to take place in the Fall 2016.

Canelo/Khan, should be decent action fight. Khan is chinny, and hasn't fought north of 147 before, and hasn't been overly active in the past few years.
