PeaceI don't hear a lot of complaints lately from Detroit fans about Old Man Leyland.Weird.
Listened to talk radio all day today. The majority of fans, literally, were demanding he be fired. The handful of Tigers fans on this board seem rational for the most part, but by and large, Detroit fans are whiny, petulant, ignorant jerk-offs. I know baseball fans of any team tend to get this way because baseball begs for hindsight, but most Detroit fans make my ears bleed and frankly don't deserve to enjoy a championship. There's a difference between questioning a manager's moves and concentrating only on anything that goes wrong and assuming that any other manager would do a better job. It's idiotic. It completely ignores what goes into making hundreds of decisions a game and what it takes to keep a team together for 162 games. Leyland is an exceptional manager and his players love him. They play hard for him. Personally I can't wait until he's gone and folks get to see what a below-average manager is really like.I don't hear a lot of complaints lately from Detroit fans about Old Man Leyland.Weird.
If they didn't make the playoffs he had to go and it has more to do with his protecting Lloyd McClendon and Gene Lamont who mostly stink at their jobs. Leyland is an above average manager and the players adore him, so making a change just to make it never made sense. But this team looked unprepared and was sloppy for much of the season and I still think they play dumb baseball a lot. As soon as they made the playoffs he got another year, and I like some of the things he's done in these playoffs. My only real gripe is that Bryan Villarreal was not on either the ALDS or ALCS roster, but maybe he'll make the next round if the Tigers do.I don't hear a lot of complaints lately from Detroit fans about Old Man Leyland.Weird.
Sticking with Valverde too long has been his biggest mistake. I have liked his lineups and most of his pitching decisions outside of papa. The base coaches have been terrible on the few chances they have come into play.I don't hear a lot of complaints lately from Detroit fans about Old Man Leyland.Weird.
Delmon Young's five playoff home runs against the Yankees are tied with five others for the third-highest career total against New York. Only Duke Snider (10), George Brett (six) and Juan Gonzalez (six) have more. Young is the only hitter in Tigers history to have more than two postseason home runs against the Yankees on his resume.
you guys know that if Leyland hangs em up this year, Lamont will be the manager right?Tigers starters have now allowed six runs in 56.33 innings. Too bad our hitting is suspect, our closer a non-closer and we have Gene Lamont, otherwise this team might look dominant.
The good news is at least we'd get a new 3rd base coach.you guys know that if Leyland hangs em up this year, Lamont will be the manager right?Tigers starters have now allowed six runs in 56.33 innings. listening to talk radio is pointless, all anyone still talks about is the valverde 9th inning on saturday. The team is up 3 to 0. there is nothing to complain about.Listened to talk radio all day today. Os had to face Sabathia in 40% of the games in their series, and they lost both games. Tigers haven't faced him once yet. That + Jeter injury = a totally different team.Congrats to the Tigers on staving off elimination by winning their must-win game yesterday. You know who is really pissed about this? The Orioles. They have to be wondering how they lost to this team.
Congrats to the Tigers on staving off elimination by winning their must-win game yesterday.
Close call there. Nearly had a seven game series end at 1 game to 2.Ask Jim JohnsonYou know who is really pissed about this? The Orioles. They have to be wondering how they lost to this team.
I was right that NY did score...though I must admit I expected more than 1 run. Missed that oneThere is likely some truth to that one statement. I expect NY to actually score in this game. Still Verlander in Detroit is not something the Yankees should feel really optimistic about given their inability to score. Detroit is a much better home team 50-31 v 38-43 on the road. And oh yea they just took 2 from NY in NY.LYAO is not necessary.I hear the Yankees are happy to get out of NY and could be better because of it. If Detroit loses with their ace NY's ace goes the next day. Series could be even up real quick and the momentum would have done a 180.LMAO at calling a game a must-win for a team UP 2-0
Sure a 180 could happen. So could a sweep.
Perspective.
The sweep chance is still alive.
indeedMust win game for the Tigers tonight
pitching changes. and I think Girardi was doing it to make verlander sit longer to try and make him get off his game a little.I was at the game last night and got home around 1:30 am. 1. How could a 2-1 game where the Yankess only had 2 hits before the 9th last 3:30??
I'm sure he'd never admitt to it, but I think he was doing it and it was a great ploy.pitching changes. and I think Girardi was doing it to make verlander sit longer to try and make him get off his game a little.I was at the game last night and got home around 1:30 am. 1. Tigers stranded a ton of base runners and Hughes got hurt giving Phelps all the time he needed to warm up. Blame your teamI was at the game last night and got home around 1:30 am. 1. How could a 2-1 game where the Yankess only had 2 hits before the 9th last 3:30??

There is lots of other stuff to blame on the Tigers too. For example, Valverde blowing his save is what put Jeter out there in extra innings.Tigers stranded a ton of base runners and Hughes got hurt giving Phelps all the time he needed to warm up. Must win game for the Tigers tonight

I go in expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Similar to most fans. The Yankees scare me because even though they are struggling at the plate, they're still loaded. They are a dangerous team and the mystique can turn momentum. It's easy to mock but that's the only ammunition some angry fans of teams no longer in the playoffs have. Must-win tonight!'Disco Stu said:'TobiasFunke said:Congrats to the Tigers on staving off elimination by winning their must-win game yesterday.Close call there. The overuse of "must win" is just my sports' pet peeve. Has nothing to do with the teams (or even the sport) involved. And who's angry? It's easy to mock but that's the only ammunition some angry fans of teams no longer in the playoffs have. Must-win tonight!![]()

Not really. Only one guy in the starting lineup had an OPS+ under 118, and that was Melky at 93. They had guys who didn't shrink in big spots (Posada, Damon, Matsui). They were a little short on the SP, but CC and Pettitte have both proven to be big-game pitchers over the last few years. And they had an excellent bullpen with Robertson/Hughes/Mo at the back end.The pitching this year has been terrific, particularly in the postseason. Obviously the offense is to blame, but the '12 versions of Tex, ARod, Swisher are light years different from where they were in 09.How did the 2009 version of this team actually execute? One of the great mysteries in sports really.
He's not done collecting Yankee payroll checks though. No ARod or Granderson in the lineup. I think ARod is done as a Yankee
Oh my god, is it possible that Loria is dumb enough to actually take ARod off our hands? After the moves they made last offseason, I have some hope...this is now a potentially bigger win than the ALCS!According to the source, Loria said in his conversation about A-Rod with Levine, "Alex is Mr. Miami, it would be great if he played here for us."To which Levine is said to have replied, "You can have him."![]()
I'm sure if they did, and they are really stupid, the Yanks would have to eat 80% of that deal.Oh my god, is it possible that Loria is dumb enough to actually take ARod off our hands? When does Swisher become a free agent?Hopefully it rains in Detroit for the next 85 days.
Hopefully they get this in tonight. When does Swisher become a free agent?Hopefully it rains in Detroit for the next 85 days.

No, but they interviewed the MLB liaison and he said that their weather dorks insist that a torrential downpour is coming. Is it still not raining there?
Why? Verlander is the only starter who allowed the Yankees to score so far.And there's a 70% chance of rain tomorrow. At this rate we'll see f'n Verlander again.
