***Official Tigers vs Yankees ALCS Thread*** (1 Viewer)

As someone who only saw a handful of Tigers games this year, can someone rationally explain to me why most Detroit fans want Valverde to get hit by a bus? In the regular season he saved 35 games in 40 chances (not automatic, but not terrible), had a reasonable ERA and WHIP and allowed only 3 dingers. His BB/K ratio could be better, but other than that what am I missing? Why all the hate?

He blew two playoff games that they should have won in nine innings, one would have been the worst loss in franchise history. How many pitchers have done that in one postseason? Are you being purposely obtuse?

He's lost it. You haven't seen him pitch lately. Everything is completely flat. He's teeing it up for the batters. No hate here, but if he can't produce he shouldn't be in.

Last year he was incredibly lucky. 49 out of 49 saves is unreal considering the jams he often found himself in. Pretty astronomical odds that he got all those outs when he put the tying run in scoring position in many of those games. He had a great year last year, but he defied the odds and some of it has to be contributed to luck. I somewhat defended him during the season. He looked good at times and a closer will blow a few saves. But what he has done post season is indefensible. He has looked terrible. Not throwing as hard and does not very good control. He ends up having to serve up the hitters. He is a pretty good closer, but lately something is wrong with his motion. I don't hate him, but he has no business being out there the way he is pitching now. Perhaps they have worked on it and corrected it. But the ALCS or world series is not the right test ground.

the issue with valverde is his splitter isnt splitting anymore. so he just groves his fastball now.

Also his pre-pitch ritual seems to be messed up, like he doesnt do the same routine anymore.

So did it ever rain there?
Started misting around 9:30 but not bad, steady rain around 10:15.The game would have been 2:15 in before they would have had to make a decision. The Tigers have played in much worse. The MLB team kept saying they could not believe the game was not started.

Question I have based on this blog entry:

News: Baseball's excuse for pulling the plug on an electric Comerica Park: It wanted to protect the "integrity of an uninterrupted, full nine-inning game."

Views: Sure, everybody wants that.

Especially with baseball's rather-infant rule that there will be no rain-shortened playoff games, nor will there be any portion of play completely erased from the books.

If the teams play two, five, seven or eight innings before a stoppage of play and an ultimate suspension of play, the game picks right up the next (dry) day where it left off.

Would this be part of a doubleheader? And would those who watched the first 7 or so innings be able to come back and watch the final 2 innings or would that just be seen by those with tickets to the next game?

"I'm trying to think how long my biggest drought was between homers..."

Darling: "That would be the 90's."

Amazing. Have the Tigers ever gotten to CC this bad before? Chasing him in the 4th with 6 ER's?

Mark Mulder was saying on Mike and Mike this morning that what he has seen in the Yankee dugout for this series is a team that doesn't want to be there. They want to be done. They just sit down on the benches, quiet, not rooting eachother on, no excitement whatsoever.

I do not understand.

CC laboring.
At 32 and soon to be 33..CC really needs to lose 40-50 lbs and try to get into better physical condition. It would even help his arm and the stress on his knees.
He has needed to do that for years. But he rarely if ever gets hurt, throws his 200+ innings per year, and puts up great numbers every season. For as overweight as he is the man has been a machine for years....including his arm.

Scherzer may only make it through six innings. A couple more runs and they could toy with bring Valverde in.
Six will put him around 100 pitches. If he's still strong (and putting up all blanks), ride him into the 7th for sure. Hopefully they'll get Smyly ready ...he could give them a couple innings like before. Just don't start the reliever shuffle.

Some of those pitches by CC had the Tigers' eyes clicking.

Those are much more than rackey-tackeys coming off Detroit bats in this one.

CC needs to go back to school and re-learn the Art of Pitching.

Pricisms :banned:

The announcers said that Leyland has a 100 pitch limit for Scherzer today.
