Official US Women's soccer thread: ***Update- BBC article on coach Hayes (2 Viewers)

Press is inarguably a better player.
That's not exactly true.  Press is faster and has a much higher work rate.  Rapinoe is without a doubt a better passer and finisher.  She's also our best set piece taker.  It comes down to what you want or need as a team.  I think our team needs that speed personally, but Ellis would rather have the heavy foot and the set piece availability.

Rapinoe unfortunately not in sync with the rest of the squad. They are moving things nicely, great shape, but any time it goes out to the left, things fizzle out.

ETA -- I like Rapinoe and don't always agree with criticism of her.

Who singlehandedly scored all their goals in two knockout games. But yeah...horrible
Weak argument.

2. Pks. A fluky free kick.  And a wide open net thanks to a nice setup. Don't you think Press/anyone could have scored the same goals?  And probably minus the 8 or 9 turnovers each game.

A few poor passes/giveaways already from her. And lumbering down the field to totally not get to that one sweet cross. Painful.

I'm ok with Rapinoe in there now. But I will be disappointed if Press doesn't come in for her at halftime or shortly afterwards.

Lol. *Ok*

Nobody else scored those goals, but yeah ... you made a compelling point there about theoreticals.

I’ve seen it so much in soccer over the years. The better tea owns possession all game. But the opposition gets one great pass/run for a goal and wins. This feels like one of those games so far.

It's  disingenuous to equate goals with great play is all I'm saying. I can't convince my wife of this either.  So like her, I'll give up and agree with you. Rapinos the MVP.

I don't know what it is but I don't like this US team.  Maybe it's their cockiness.  Wouldn't mind seeing the Dutch score first to make this interesting.

Hyperbole and imposing opinions on other people is also a good way of winning arguments.

Netherlands playing better than expected?
Not IMO - a different shape is causing the issue - like I said it's tight. US just has to take their time to unlock it. The Dutch haven't had a good possession at all
