The Dutch premiere of Utopia had 1.5 million viewers but is now down to 500k.

Americans though are bigger suckers for reality TV and I believe it will do just fine here.
Yeah, but there's some weird TV in that part of the world. I think a 42-hour feed of a boat going down a river got 2.5 million viewers or something.
When I was in Russia, I watched a "show" that had a camera on a train going through the mountains. It was weird. But for some reason, I watched it for over an hour. Must be something in the air.

Are there any odds for rape, murder or anything crazy?

i mean it says no rules, right?

Do we get to see any orgies?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Now's the time to set them, we've got a few hours left 'til game time.

Good questions though. What happens when someone starts whittling a shank or something? How close can they get to Lord of the Flies before they shut it down?

They have money to buy things they need, and can sell things they produce, like extra milk. That's pretty cool.

Do we need a seperate spoilers thread, since there is a TV show?

Wait, so this hasn't already been filmed? Oof. Now I'm getting skeptical. I thought it had already been filming and going well. Essentially, this thing is a total gamble.

I hope if this thing does end up getting cancelled, they still make them live there for a year.
They move into the compound tomorrow and the live feeds start then. They then have the 1st broadcast on the 7th of Sept with tons of footage to fit into 2 hours
I get it now. But I had assumed that they had been filming this like they do Survivor. So that they had been there for about 4 months already. I'm still in, but this is a huge gamble.
Not that it's a sign of future success in the US, but apparently this show is big in Holland.

There's a lot of potential for this show.. I wonder if they'll do stuff like create laws, law enforcement, and some kind of holding cell. You gotta figure that eventually one of these guys or girls is going to try to become dictator.
You can't go full dictator. They're filming somewhere and that somewhere will have laws. Maybe for the show you could go around beating people into submission, but you'll shortly find yourself in a real jail.

Plus unlike in a real dictatorship they've made it pretty easy for the 'rebels' to oust someone by just voting them out. Scratch the dictator idea, not going to happen unless one of these Utopians has some serious mind control powers.

This show should be called 'Arguments' because thats all its about. If I wanted to watch fourteen people constantly being douches Id go to the family Thanksgiving dinner this year.

yea this really is no different than the many other shows. totally scripted. ill give it a few episodes. But right now im

Im halfway through the 2 hour premiere.

Not sure why but Hex makes me tingle.

And Lol @ the one dude calling dibs on the Asian chick....sure, I love animals too.

And WTF is up with the 'I cant take another day' crap? Jesus. Anyone who can't last at least a few days without going nuts shouldn't even be there.

And how many are plants? I think at least 3.

Turrible... Watched it last night.. won't be watching it again.. Just didn't find it interesting..

The arguing was way over the top.. Christ, they were only there for ONE FRICKEN NIGHT and all hell broke loose...

It's like they screened the applicants and picked the bat #### craziest ones...

The older blonde "survivalist planner" is most definitely bi-polar. Good Lord.

Awwww....that poor pastor being subjected to seeing boobies.

I'm not sure I get what some of you people expected to see. This show was AWESOME!!

You're upset because people were arguing and acting like children? Umm. That's kind of the point of the show. If there were no arguments and everyone got along, the show would suck. What makes it great is that everyone on this show is insane and thinks every other person is crazy. :lmao:

I am so IN on this show.

As I said before you will either love it or hate it depending upon what you want out of it.I went in with this attitude and came out loving it.

As a feed watcher I can tell you that it just isn't possible this is scripted.
Not scripted, but these people are playing roles and are being nudged along by the producers.
Accurate. They brought cast members who would supply drama, but the drama seems legit at this point. I'm good with it so far.

I wanted to see more of how they were going to get things done.. Like the power, food, building stuff...

Instead they just focused on crazy people arguing with each other...

They basically crammed the first 2 days into last night and without spoiling anything for you(if you tune in again)they will be getting to those things for sure.

Got dragged into watching 30 mins of this or so. Terrible. The people are like caricatures of stereotypes that are just trying way too hard.

They've only been living there for about a week.

Right. The first step in creating an organized civilization is establishing the organization. That's what this first week has been about, a series of power struggles, although there has been a good amount of progress on infrastructure mixed in.

These Pioneers (in theory) knew nothing about each other before entering the compound. Can't expect them to just immedietly get along and know who is giving/taking the orders.

Of course they did. It's a reality show, they do that on purpose. It's not like they're trying to create a real "social experiment", they're just making MTV's 'the real world' on a bigger set.
Watching the feeds, I don't see it this way. But if I'd only watched the TV show, I'd agree. There are a lot of interesting things going on right now in the way of infrastructure and decision making, seeing what amenities they choose to build first, etc. Wish more of that had reached the show. It will eventually (I think).

ie: chicken tractors?

I don't have time or interest to watch the feeds- although I'll defer to you that they're more interesting.

As it was- based on watching the first hour of that show last night, it's yet another reality show cast with loud, hot-headed, annoying disparate people who ultimately get to vote other people off of the island. A tired concept that has been long played out- regardless of how long these people are forced to live together.

I can't imagine this show survives and if it does, that is not a good sign. Fox has Brooklyn 99 and they weren't sure if that would get a second season and it might be the best comedy on TV (IMHO). Seeing crap like this, I had to turn it off during homeless guys ranting about his stuff on the box, makes me sad thinking of how crappy TV shows have gotten nowadays because reality is cheaper and people seem to think acting like this is normal. I'll get off my soapbox, but crap like this is why you have parents getting into fights with umps, coaches and other fans for elementary school aged athletics.

damnit :lmao:

And their resident general contractor was framing the bathroom walls in shorts and sandals. Okay, so they're not writing the book on how to create a Utopia, but they're going through the motions.
