Its that time of year again folks. This is a desert island style draft. Each participant or team will have to fill the Retro and Modern sections using the categories provided. If there are any glaring omissions that I forgot about, would just work better, or something you like, suggest a new category.

General Info:

Draft Clock: 7AM-4PM PST Mon-Fri, one hour per pick. The draft will be serpentine. Turns only have one timer before both picks skip. Once skipped you are put on auto skip till you show up. You can do makeup picks at any time. Personal messages and lists are encouraged if you are going to be gone for extended periods of time especially on the weekends where the clock is off. If too many skips start occurring the draft could be paused for a short while

This year the list will be made on google docs that I will provide a link to. Everyone will keep track of their own picks and are welcome to do so in a tab on the excel sheet or in the thread.

When selecting a game, pick the platform it is for, and what category you want it placed in for record keeping. Games can change categories later on but please make a note of it in the thread. Games that include multiplayer will be considered to have ample players to support its gameplay.

Judging:

Judging will happen at the end of the draft by every participant. Everyone will use a 1st(best)-XXth(worst) ranking system comparing each team against each other. They will treat it as if they were stranded on a desert island with ONLY each set of games to play individually. Each drafter/judge can make the rankings list as simple(list best-->worst) or as complicated as they want. Commentary during the draft and rankings period is encouraged from the entire ffa, but please no spotlighting of games that are still on the board. Judges will not include their own game selections in the ranking.

Rules:
Sports and racing games can be chosen once per franchise and then the rest of the franchises’ titles are off the board. Multiplatform games can only be chosen once. All expansions, downloadable content, and episodic content are included with the original game. Boxed sets and collections cannot be drafted. Every title has to be drafted individually. The ultimate decision on proper placement of any selection is left up to the judges when they are judging your team’s. Hope you all have fun, enjoy the nostalgia, and find some new hidden games to play.

Todem, Slax, Insein, or anyone who has participated in the past, how do you feel about the draft clock being what it has been? Would you guys like more time, it feels about right, or less. Right now and last time it has been set to 1 hour for the first five rounds and then it drops to 30 minutes in rounds 6+.

In again.

Keep the clock at an hour and off on weekends and nights. Usually moves pretty good.
I'm fine with this. I know that we don't want to keep it stale and slow, but I hate seeing so many picks get missed and then had to be made up.

I haven't decided if I want in for judging or participant. I'm leaning as a participant, though. It's been awhile since I've been apart of it in a non-judging sense.

One hour for all picks?

I'll mark you down as a participant but you can change if you don't want before it starts up. It's always good to have knowledgeably people in these things because it keeps everyone on their toes. With more people that really enjoy gaming it makes the sidebar conversations better and general opinions/banter more fun. I also really like the direction the categories/desert island aspect is setup this year.

This thing is always weird with how hit and miss it is. One month it gets very little respond and then in the past a month later it will be good to go in a day or two.

I think the problem is there's a video game draft every other year. And for the most part the participants are the same. I don't think there are enough new impact games in the last 2 years that would significantly change how a draft would turn out.

On the other hand, it's been years since our last Babe Bracket; frequency is the main factor in activity and interest.

Bump this thing for the start summer. Would you guys really be interested in a super in depth version of a video game draft ala the way most Tim drafts are? I would love it but then it boils down to judging which is always tough to find for the amount of categories.

Another thing to consider to change it up is to possibly consider a nomination and auction mechanic for the draft. Or do something similar to the song draft that just took place where everybody had to choose 22 out of 26 letters in the alphabet for their music(our case games) to start with. I'm just tossing ideas around here.

Updated and if this picks up I would definitely check if everyone is still willing to join that has previously said in.

I'm still in if we're a go. I may bring in an outsider (non-FBG) to sign up if we need one more. I have a friend who would probably enjoy one of these drafts and he's very knowledgeable about gaming. I'll at least mention it to him. New blood will spice things up.

Slax, that

Slax that would be fine if you have a friend that would like to join up. I wish I had more real life gaming buddies, which I do have but they are all casual or to lazy to do something like this. Actually its more about the super lazyness or like my girlfriend, just doesn't know enough beyond The Sims, Portal, Gears, Fable, Pokemon, and COD/Titanfall. She would love doing this type of thing but it would be a second team for me just like her fantasy football team in a friends league that knocked me out of the semis.

I might do the same. He's been kind of like my Mr. Miyagi when it comes to contemplating what picks to make.

Sounds great, the more the better especially if they are knowledgable. If you guys have any ideas you would like the draft to based around suggest it. The current listed form is solid and a little different from the past but not super intense.
