If Doctson becomes legit than the team still has plenty of weapons. 2 great pass catching TE's. Love Crowder and they could definitely get Chris Thompson more involved in the passing game.

And I don't think another team will sign Thompson, since they put a 2nd round tender on him. Good move on the team's part.

Damn it I hope Doctson is healthy and Pryor signs with the Skins.

I think what you mean is:

- If Docston starts running at full speed allowing him to start the process of being a rookie WR in the NFL(after essentially being off the field for an entire year).

- A 33yo Vernon Davis can repeat his '16 season that jump started his career from life support

- Their best receiver(Reed) averages playing more than the 11.5gams/season he has up to this point.... and keep in mind many of those games he was playing hurt and was less effective

- A 5'7" 192lb Chris Thompson could stand up to the punishment of being more involved

- I'm a huge fan of Crowder but I'm not sure his 5'8" 185lb frame is going to be able to handle the type of abuse he is going to get as the 'Skins #1 WR this year

- After these question marks you are left with Ryan Grant and Maurice Harris as "depth"... that's if you don't consider 3-WR offense as practically a base offense in the NFL in 2017

This looks like a paper-thin group to me and they are in serious trouble if one of the old/little/fragile guys actually gets dinged up. I think they are in big trouble unless they spend an early pick on WR or get a solid contributor entering his prime(Kendall Wright/Michael Floyd/Kamar Aiken) or an aging vet as a stop-gap solution until they can develop some young guys(Cruz/Vincent Jackson). In reality I think they need to add two players from those options. They could also use a deep threat to spread the defense. I know the fantasy community hates Cordarrelle Patterson(25yo) but at least he's fast and could help in the return game as well.

I'm friends with several people that worked at Snyder communications (one directly for Snyder) and 1 that was high up in the skins ticket office.  Their hatred of Snyder and the way he runs operations is about as deep as one can have for a previous employer.   in fact, I've never heard of worse   The person under Snyder was told she couldn't even speak to him directly, even when they were in the a 2-3 person meeting with him   She would talk to his right hand man, and he would say the same thing then to Snyder   He fired the whole ticket office year after year to save a few bucks.  He illegally changed people's accounts to even start his original Comm business

The idea he would need proof of alcoholism to publically disgrace or fire someone is ludicrous  the man lives in his own fantasy world

He is a modern day Mussolini

Now scot may have alcohol problems again   But to say Snyder wouldn't lie about it to save a few bucks - of course this a$& would

Cooley just went on a big rant on 980 that while he regrets speculating about Scot m on air no one put him up to it.  Said no media source claiming that he was  fed info called him for comment but just created their own narrative because it feeds the whole Evil Bruce story.  Also said he regretted it and apologized to Scot.

its he said she said I know but he's now gone on record to deny this story that many have taken as truth.  To be fair there is no evidence showing us what happened one way or the other without someone coming forward with an actual named source that shows he was fed the info

not defending Cooley here only defending the practice of keeping my mind open until I see evidence of some sort

So, what if Houston misses out on Romo and comes calling for Kirk? A 1st this year and in 2018 enough?
If Kirk doesn't want to be here that would be fine.  But didn't Kirk say he would only go to SF and his refusal to do a contract with Houston would then scuttle the deal?  Not sure he could pull that off though without threatening to sit out

I hadn't been impressed with Brewer before but this was a great column.  Every fan should read it. He's right that Scot shares some blame here, and he also was right to highlight some of the things the Skins did wrong here even before we got to the meddling and the mudslinging.

Maybe? But Houston could be set up to win much quicker than San Fran

Thanks for posting that since I can't listen this morning. To me what you described is:

"Chris, thanks for saying that stuff about Scot for us the other week. Now you go out there and say it was all your opinion."

"Yes sir."

"Oh, and don't threaten Sheehan's job on the air again like you did. Makes us look bad."

"Yes sir."

From March 4:

Tampa Bay is expected to heavily pursue Jackson, and the Eagles and Rams also have been mentioned as potential suitors. If both wide receivers leave, the Redskins plan to go young.

Coaches would craft a more significant role for Jamison Crowder, who has started 15 of 32 games in his first two seasons in the league as a slot receiver, combining for 126 catches, 1,451 yards and nine touchdowns.

Crowder probably will move out of the slot, two people familiar with the situation said. The Redskins’ belief is that Crowder has the ability to play both outside receiver positions, but it remains to be seen how the 5-foot-9, 182-pound former fourth-round pick will fare against the NFL’s top cornerbacks as opposed to the nicklebacks, linebackers and safeties he dealt with in the slot.
Putting Crowder out wide is a good idea, if you want to minimize his effectiveness. I hope this doesn't happen.

OK, which ones of you are in this picture?

There's supposed to be a similar "march" tomorrow, which will probably have more turnout since it's Saturday.

I agree it would be awesome for KC...he'd be an idiot not to sign with them.  So, who knows...depends on how much man-love he has for Kyle I guess...

Article on McGee and McClain

Washington signed defensive tackle Terrell McClain to a four-year deal worth more than $21 million and defensive tackle Stacy McGee for five years at $25 million, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. First, here’s a basic evaluation on both players.

“I like both players,” said one NFC West executive. “McGee is a stingy interior player that can hold the line of scrimmage, but he’s very average as a pass rusher. McClain is athletic, plays with a motor and can play the interior as well as on the perimeter.”
Now, let’s dive in a bit, starting with McClain. He spent the past three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. The 28-year-old is listed at 6-foot-2 and 302 pounds with the ability to serve as a five-technique defensive end in a base 3-4 defense and a three-technique in a 4-3 front. “McClain is a little undersized but has good quickness,” said one NFC defensive coach.
“McClain is stout at the point of attack,” said one NFC executive. “He’s a sneaky pass rusher too. His problem is that his arms aren’t the longest, which leads to him sticking on blocks at times.”

Basically, he’s Chris Baker’s replacement. McClain is versatile and has some skill sets that Baker doesn’t possess, but he also lacks the size and strength. Is McClain better than Baker though? “Baker is better,” said the NFC defensive coach. “More expensive, but stronger.”
McGee, who has played all four NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders, has been primarily used in a backup role.
McGee is a two-down backup nose tackle,” said the NFC executive. “He’s strong at the point of attack and gets some push as a power rusher. He just doesn’t have the best instincts to locate the ball, and he plays high at times.”

McGee, 27, has 18 career starts, but has the ability to grow into a starting role as the zero-technique nose tackle in the base 3-4 defense or a 1-technique in a 4-3 front. He should be an upgrade for the Redskins, who rotated between Ziggy Hood, Matt Ioannidis and Cullen Jenkins in the interior last season to go along with Baker and Ricky Jean Francois.
So we still don't have a nose tackle, just a guy who can "grow into it" who's better than the mannequins at nose tackle last year. And we have a replacement for Baker who's not as good as Baker.

From that last link:

With a projected starting lineup at the moment consisting of Francois, McGee and McClain, the Redskins lack depth at the position, with Ioannidis, Anthony Lanier, A.J. Francis, Joey Mbu and Phil Taylor on the roster. Washington could use another free agent acquisition and a young talent in the draft to give it 10 defensive linemen heading into offseason practices
Not confidence-inspiring at this point. They should have kept Baker and tried like hell to sign Poe.

Cooley swore that no one put him up to it. No one told him to do the segment.

Hey Chris, don't be so dense. You were still fed the information. You were used to get the story out. You didn't have to be told to do it. You wanted to do it. They knew you would want do it. You were used to get it out.

Starting from the back of the defense first, they took care of the hole at safety by signing D.J. Swearinger. They can now line up two safeties in Swearinger and Su’a Cravens. They likely will try Swearinger at free safety, where he played some with the Cardinals last year. If that alignment doesn’t work, they still have Will Blackmon, who started six games at free last year and played reasonably well.

On the line, the Redskins added Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee on a day when Chris Baker signed with the Bucs. You could line up with McClain, McGee. Ricky Jean Francois rotating and end and Phil Taylor at nose tackle if you had to. However, that is not a line that would hold up very well. If they can add another good lineman over the next few days, perhaps Bennie Logan or Jonathan Hankins. They would be off to a good start on the line if they can do that and then add another D-lineman in the first few days of the draft.

After listening Gladi and Czabe, it sounds like Scot's drinking was the worst kept secret in Washington. Both said that they weren't comfortable talking about it on air because it was hearsay  but apparently it wasn't a secret the team had to leak to the press.

Yeah, you really have to feel sorry for Cooley here. To have your professionalism called out in public like this based on speculation and rumor with no concrete facts to back it up. It must be pretty tough to take. At least when you're on THIS side of the public speculation painting you as unprofessional.

Sports Junkies said the same thing.  It wasn't a secret, just no one publically talked about it in the media.  This is not uncommon with alcoholism for people to know but not say anything..

Though they said Allen was a boozer too...someone said he "brushed his teeth with Coors."

Yeah, I can only imagine being in that kind of environment if you struggle with sobriety. That's why it was probably never going to work out and ultimately Allen is responsible for this mess because he's the one who hired him.

Here's the transcript of McCloughan's introductory presser 2 years ago: http://www.redskins.com/news-and-events/article-1/Quotes-Scot-McCloughan-Introductory-Press-Conference-11915/267bfe18-63d8-467f-8bcb-3011debbdb2c

Some interesting Bruce quotes:

ALLEN: “Last year when Dan made me President of the team, we were looking for ways to improve the Washington Redskins. It really was my responsibility to find any way we can improve the organization. What I did say last week was we were looking to add someone. We’re looking for ways to add and change what we’ve been doing. When Scot became available and said he was ready to get into the saddle, that was really a no-brainer for us to pursue someone who has that type of talent. We believe strongly that with Scot’s vision and leadership, it’s going to help the Redskins win. That is our responsibility.”

ALLEN: “As I said at the beginning, I’ve known Scot for a long time. It’s absolutely my recommendation to bring him in. I think he’s the right person for this organization right now to help us win. I did want him to meet Dan. I thought it was important not only for Scot to meet Dan, but for Dan to meet somebody who is going to have a critical role in the organization. Dan said, ‘Do what you need to do in order to help this team win.’”

ALLEN: “I was aware when Scot was going through his situation. I did talk to him about it, and we had a very forthright conversation. We’re here to support him, and he would not be taking this job if he thought that was going to be a concern.”

Some of these guys may yet be backups.  We have to get a defensive lineman or multiple ones in the draft.
I think that's why some people are questioning the decision new DLmen. They seem like backup/rotational guys when they let a solid starter walk. Aren't all three guys making roughly $5mil/season?

I guess depth is always a good thing and they are a LITTLE younger than Baker but it's hard to believe they couldn't have offered a little more money, kept Baker, and teamed a rookie with him for less than they spent on the new DLmen that aren't as good as Baker.

ESPN.com news services

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins signed his franchise tender Friday morning, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Cousins can now be traded, though Washington has shown no inclination of moving him to this point. But now that Cousins has signed, the Redskins can review their options.

I do agree that they should have kept Baker.

Time to trade Cousins to the Browns for Osweiler and 1.12
Why?  Would rather have another pick that Rottenwiler!  Browns already said they were gonna cut him; how does this sweeten the pot?

Besides, KC won't work out a contract with Cleveland...trade scuttled.

When you are getting lectured about dsyfunction from Vinnie Freakin' Cerrato...
Or you could put it this way: when Vinnie Cerato can figure out that you are a bunch of ####ups, you KNOW you are a bunch of ####ups.

Hello last place in the NFC East. hey will fight the Eagles for that but I think the Eagles take 3rd place. Goodbye $44 million with nothing to show for it. Amazing. $44 million.

Assuming the Eagles draft a couple of good CB's, with their additions at WR, I think they will challenge for 2nd, maybe first if Prescott has any sort of Sophomore slump. I agree though that the Washington front office seems intent on sending the Redskins to last place with who they signed and did not sign yesterday.

Am I wrong? Calling as it is. Not just as I see it but AS IT IS. The most ####ed up situation & the biggest display of ineptness I have ever seen in the salary cap era at a minimum. Possibly ever.
Do you work hard at being a jerk or is it natural talent?

I haven't witnessed such consistency at being a tool on this board since Favreco was posting here...

A lot of hyperbole does not strengthen your argument.

It doesn't need to. It's all fact.

Hey, Bob Griffin The Turd is available. Trade Cousins, bring back the Turd. Put the gang back together. Championship!!!!

Trading Cousins to Cleveland for both those 1st and starting over would be nice.
