The plan isn’t to bring someone in and start them right away******.  Fitzpatrick was here to help develop the rest of the team while finding a replacement.  I’m glad Taylor got further chances as i do like him as a backup.  But he’s not the answer.  He’s a gamer though and i like that.  But no he’s not the future of this franchise.

Hes young in NFL years. He’s played what, like 10 games in the NFL? I brought up Prescott because except for myself and maybe two other people on this entire board everybody wrote him off and said he wasn’t very good. Now he’s elite.

We just disagree. Except for music, not really new for you and I. 

I think l the kid is worth developing. Time will tell.

One more thing on Heinicke...commentators mentioned it, he finally seems to be starting to find the right balance between risk taking (run and throw) vs. conservative ball protection (finding the check down guy).   I thought a few times he took sacks trying to hold it for a big throw too long when he had a guy open for a check down, but I guess it's a balance.

Yeah, his judgement yesterday on when to throw and when to tuck it was the best it's been. Maybe the game has slowed down a bit for him? I guess we have the rest of the season to find out if his play stays at that level. 

 
I agree Heinicke has that "it" factor that's difficult to define. Unfortunately, he doesn't rank highly in many of the things that can be defined and that's ultimately what will keep him from being a long term starter solution in the NFL.

 
I agree Heinicke has the 'it' factor.  And that 'it' factor makes him the 20-25th best QB in the league.  If he didn't have the swagger, confidence and decent reads of the defense, he'd be on a couch somewhere.  He's got a 87% passer rating.  All of the top QBs are over 100.  So that's nowhere near where it needs to be, though certainly better than Haskins and Smith were last year.

The guy is a great bottom tier starter or top tier backup.  I have no problem with him being the QB of this team given that Fitz went down.  They couldn't have asked for a better second guy in and I enjoy watching him play.   But no team should settle for a QB.  None.  Every team should be looking for a top 10 QB every year.  Heinicke is fine until they find that.  But they darn well better draft trying to find it.

 
Taylor has heart, and moxy. And we do love him. But there are limitations with arm strength. And I think that's hard to overcome in today's game. I hope he finishes his career in Washington, but I won't be upset if he's backing up a franchise QB with a cannon arm in the near future ;)

Logan Thomas (hamstring, IR) did not return to practice Wednesday.

Washington announced that they were opening CB Darryl Roberts' 21-day practice window. They notably did not do the same for Thomas. Thomas was believed to have a shot to play in Week 10 but did not practice last week. With Ricky Seals-Jones now day-to-day with a hip injury, Thomas' continued absence puts his Week 11 availability in doubt. If Thomas and Seals-Jones are unable to suit up, it would leave John Bates as Washington's every-down tight end.

I think you guys are right. Heinicke is a career back up and you guys should absolutely spend a first round pick on a quarterback. No way he’s going to get better at his craft.

I’ve seen a few along with the two Super Bowl wins.   I’ve also seen plenty have a great game or even season and not pan out.  Pump the breaks and relax it’s a good game and I’m glad to see it but that doesn’t change a ton for those who Have watched all of his games.  He could do this every game for the rest of the season and i still want to bring in another qb to compete.  
 

Come back in 3 years and let me know who was right.

You didn’t miss much. 

I though Jason Campbell could have been pretty good. He was almost unstoppable in the two-minute offense. Another example of systems not aligning with talent. 

 
Its shocking how much better this team is playing on defense after losing Chase Young and Montez Sweat. I just don't understand that. And I know we aren't THAT good...but if you look at the schedule...dare I say it...we could go on a mini run here...5 division games and Seahawks and Raiders only thing left on the schedule. I thought I wanted us to tank for the best draft pick possible but damn it I love watching Taylor ball his heart out....let's go Red colored uniformed team!!!  :drive:

 
When Larsen, the backup center, went out with an injury they move Schweitzer, the guard, over to center. The O-line blocking immediately improved. Anyone else notice that?

Also, did Troy Apke save the game?

I wasn't sure the team was ever going to stop bumbling and get out of their own way, but they finally did and ground out another win. Fun to watch. Third down conversions are way up (as are third down stops by the defense), rushing yardage is way up, and they've dominated number of plays and time of possession for 2 games in a row now. They look like a functional team again. Nice to see.

It's seldom been obvious for any QB after 11 starts whether they're going to be a solid NFL starter or not. See Troy Aikman and Sam Darnold.

 
I'm glad they went back to Gibson. I think he's a great talent and they need to figure out a way to make this work. Sure, every carry in the second half made me nervous he was going to fumble again, but I'm glad they showed some trust in him and he delivered by running hard and picking up yards. And then I was also glad they gave Patterson those final carries.

I think they are one game out of the wild card.

 
Interesting stuff:

The defense is undeniably better with Young and Sweat, but it’s also easier for defensive tackles Allen and Daron Payne to dictate the rush plan to less-heralded edge rushers. “I always defer to them,” said 2020 seventh-round pick James Smith-Williams, who started in place of Young. “They’re older, they’ve been in the league for a long time, so whatever they say they want, that’s what I try and do.”

Even in situations Washington can’t control — such as losing backup center Tyler Larsen (knee) and right tackle Sam Cosmi (hip) — Rivera liked his team’s response. Wes Schweitzer and Cornelius Lucas stepped in even though Schweitzer, a guard, hadn’t played center since 2019. Rivera praised the offensive and defensive lines, both playing without key pieces, for setting a physical tone.

You know, this thought came across my mind as well.  There was a ton of talk of players not buying into the system so i wonder if this is the result of that as Chase was one of those players people said wasnt executing properly and was kind of going rogue.

This makes a lot of sense and if true is a pretty damning indictment of Chase. Of course he was the consensus pick at the time, but taking Chase over Herbert stings more with every passing week.

The better defensive play started at the beginning of the Tampa game, before Young went out. The defensive scheme had changed; they were covering receivers tightly instead of giving them all 6-10 yard cushions as they had done all year under del Rio, and they were all rallying to the ball much more than before. I think it has more to do with the scheme change than anything else. 

However, the replacements for Sweat and Young are very inclined to listen to Allen and Payne calling the rush plan for each play, probably more so than Sweat and Young were. So that's probably part of it as well.

I think it has more to do with Landon Collins not playing Safety.  I'm not sure they are getting to the QB any faster.  But there aren;'t guys running open all over the field, which means the defense gets off faster and the offense gets on more. 

It's also helps to have a K not miss 30% of extra points and half their FGs.  If Hopkins was kicking WAS might have lost this game playing the exact same way

I'm still loving this. Defense is getting the opponents off the field quicker, while the offense is holding onto the ball longer (and actually scoring a bit).

Can you imagine if Curtis was healthy and able to contribute the way he did last year in Carolina? And if Thomas comes back and plays as well as he did before he got hurt? This team would be pretty dang solid!

The defense at the beginning of the Tampa game was very good.  After Young left the game, Brady had a lot more time to throw.

I thought Heinicke has played much better the past two games. From a playing time perspective, he is still a rookie learning the NFL.  The early results are encouraging. 

 
Its a nice way of saying his targets are often lofted to him, which gives defenders time to make up the separation he created off the line of scrimmage

If we're honest, Terry also jumps for balls he doesn't have to jump for. It's not a bad idea when you look at how he does it --- facing the ball, mostly squared up, back to the defender, bent at the waist a bit to use his butt to keep the defender back a little. He's quite good at it.

 
The Washington Football Team, on a two-game winning streak, should have additional offensive help available Monday night vs. Seattle as tight end Logan Thomas and receiver Curtis Samuel are expected to play, barring a last minute-change in their health.

Samuel is listed as questionable; Thomas remains on injured reserve but the expectation is that he'll be activated in time to play Monday. Both would be limited to a snap count coach Ron Rivera said, though Thomas likely would play more than Samuel.

How about that ####?

They're not good, they have so many injuries, so many replacements starting. But they've figured out how they can play best. I've enjoyed the last 3 games, especially the one tonight since they really could have lost it right up until the penalty on the onside kick right near the end. I think I'll have a drink.

I wonder if tress way being left footed stopped them from kicking a 19 yard FG with 2.30 left in the game.  Gotta think it’s hard for the holder from the other side if they don’t do it all the time.  You would think a person that can kickoff can give a 19 yarder at least a good chance. That would have put the game away right there. Assume Rivera was scared it would go 99 yards the other way. 
 

laughing at all the love for heinicke on radio this am.  Russ Wilson had a horrid game and his numbers were still better. Heinicke is now like 25th in league by rating and qbr.  He’s agreat standby (and bargain) while we draft and develop the next guy.  And fix holes all over the place.  But Rivera doing the jacked up postgame talk and thinking all the guys he needs are in that locker room … not even close.

Agreed.  This team the way it’s playing now is fun to watch though.  It makes me wonder where the team would be if fitzy didn’t get hurt and the defense played like this from the beginning.  Ah well.  
 

we are finding good young players which is positive.
