I like that first pick. One thing the media fails to mention enough is depth. If at this point OL is an above average group, losing any starter really degrades that unit to below average. There's not much depth. Conerly provides depth, starter talent, and perhaps allows Coleman to move inside. It's not ony protecting Daniels. It's opening better holes for a medicre RB room.

You can plan ways to cover up other problems (RB by having a better OL. CB by having a better DL/LB group). But if you don't have depth at what covers up those problems, things can get ugly really quickly.

So ... I love the BPA approach Peters takes. It's thankfully not a 1 year plan.

Amos is a good fit with his length; can play press and zone. Played at 3 schools: Louisiana; Alabama and Ole Miss (Pete Golding recruited him at Bama and went to Ole Miss).

Amos gives Washington another true outside corner. Jonathan Jones and Mike Sainristil both can play outside for sure. Both would be considered best inside. They now have stronger depth at corner

Peters acknowledged that pick 61 was their best shot at trading down for multiple value picks. Don't expect a move into the third and possibly no trades in any direction over the remaining rounds.

When I think about what might have been, it still makes me sad. One of the most impressive players I've ever seen on a football field - he was heading for the HOF. RIP Sean.

Washington traded with Houston and moved back up into the 4th round to pick WR Jaylin Lane from Virginia Tech. I don't have the trade details.

So this is the first pick I can't immediately say is a slam dunk no brainer. Lane is fast, but undersized, at best a slot role? Does this mean McCaffrey was drafted over? Or is Lane more about his punt return ability?

Kid is a Swiss Army Knife. Although he's not as physical a specimen, this is who you bring in to give Deebo a breather every now and then, without the offense missing a beat. Luke McCaffrey is still safe in his developing slot role, IMHO.

Lane is not tall but I wouldn't call him undersized - he looks solid, well built, and very fast. From what I can see, he's able to stay on his feet after being hit if the defender doesn't wrap him up, looks good on end arounds, shifty through traffic, not just a burner - he can do a lot of different things on the field, kind of like Deebo, agreed.

I was really hoping for one of those RBs that went before him though - Tuten, Skattebo, Dylan Sampson. Damn.

As a Hokie, I saw a good bit of Lane. This is a special teams pick. Punt returner with the ability to fill in McCaffrey in that role, and to spell Debo when needed. He is fast, but goes down easily. It's another depth pick.

#Commanders safety, Quan Martin, told us today he had surgery on both his shoulders a couple months ago. He said he separated one shoulder week 3 and the other shortly after that. "Just want to get it taken care of now so I can be 100% going into year three"

General manager Adam Peters and coach Dan Quinn have overhauled the limited roster they inherited in January 2024. Drafting quarterback Jayden Daniels last year was a massive step toward near- and long-term success, but the need for youth and talent remained. Washington filled roster gaps by signing a plethora of veterans to one-year deals. "Until we get a really good foundation of draft picks over the years, we’re going to probably keep doing that,” Peters said ahead of this year’s draft.

The Commanders’ primary need areas ahead of the three-day draft were edge defender, cornerback, offensive line and speed on offense. With only five selections, helping three out of four ain’t bad. There are direct paths for first-round offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr., second-round cornerback Trey Amos and fourth-round receiver/returner Jaylin Lane to start or garner significant snaps in 2025 while helping Peters and Quinn set the foundation for years to come.

All NFL teams compile contingencies, and Washington had a few. One involved the 6-foot-5, 311-pound offensive tackle who became a must-watch prospect for Peters and his staff this draft cycle.
“What we discussed beforehand was if (Conerly) was on the board, we weren’t going to trade back,” Peters said shortly after the selection.

Report: Commanders, D.C. mayor plan to announce stadium deal on Monday

The Washington Post reports that the Commanders and D.C. mayor Muriel Bowser have reached an agreement on a new facility to be built at the site of the defunct RFK Stadium. The deal is expected to be announced on Monday in a joint news conference featuring Bowser and Commanders owner Josh Harris. Approval will still be needed both from the D.C. Council and from Harris’s NFL business partners. Prior reports pegged the stadium cost at $3 billion, with D.C. paying as little as $500 million.

An effort is underway to secure enough signatures to put a stadium initiative on the June 2025 ballot in D.C. Also, multiple D.C. Council members have expressed concern about the use of public money for the stadium. The mayor and the team will be hoping to generate enough public support to fuel the approval process. And there is plenty of sentiment among the fan base to return the team from Maryland to D.C. If, however, the question ends up on a ballot, it likely will fail.

I really want to see the site conceptual mock-ups. It'll be interesting to see how they handle infrastructure and parking around there.

Not sure about the Armory. I haven’t seen much. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more than just a stadium. There will likely be restaurants, retail, offices, maybe residential. A second Metro entrance/exit would probably help.
