Exactly. How dare they think that a QB who had played in 4 NFC Championships and a Super Bowl could ever do that again. Preposterous. And again, there had to have been, 30, 31 maybe, other franchise QBs just twiddling their thumbs waiting for an NFL team to acquire them. How those idiots managed to acquire the one QB that offseason that didn't turn in to a franchise QB just boggles my mind. What's ridiculous was to think that McNabb was something he isn't after having 10 years of tape on him.'Sidewinder16 said:I'm not convinced it was strictly a cap move. John Beck just tried to get into #redskins park & was turned away, for now. New security kid @ gate to beck: your name again sir?

Snyder might have to invest in a mid-air refueling tanker for R1.I hope the pilots of Redskins One got a lot of rest, because they are going to be mighty busy the next week or so...

What does that mean about his contract status? I know rookies participate in mini camps and probably some offseason work outs, but they avoid training camp until they have a contract. I guess he's just there for a work out or something since training camp doesn't start until Thursday?Rookie Evan Royster reported as one of the first to show up. Always a good sign.
McNabb is no longer a franchise QB. That guy was long gone once he longer could use his legs effectively enough. The fact that the Eagles traded him within the division should have been a giant neon sign for the Redskins. You can only blame the coaching staff for McNabb. Well, technically training camp doesn't start until Thursday, or possibly Friday (there were conflicting reports yesterday). Starting now, players can get in to team facilities for physicals, workouts, meetings w/ coaches, etc. There are no organized practices today. And rookies can sign contracts as of 10am. Given the limitations the lockout put on rookies, in regards to getting playbooks, meeting coaches, beginning to learn the systems, etc., I think it's very wise for a rookie to get in as early as possible. Especially one that has a legitimate shot at starting/seeing significant PT.What does that mean about his contract status? I know rookies participate in mini camps and probably some offseason work outs, but they avoid training camp until they have a contract. The NFL may just have handed Beck another boost in his effort to land the job.
One section of the NFL transition calendar that was released today reads as follows:
Veteran players who sign Player Contract on or after 6:00 p.m., New York Time, on July 29, 2011 shall be required to report to, and remain with, their Clubs . . . except that, prior to the start of the 2011 League Year, such players may not participate in on-field activities, workouts, weight training or other physical activities, but shall be required to attend meetings, classroom instruction and other non-physical activities scheduled during the Club's preseason training
The league year is not scheduled to start until August 4. That means that Grossman can be fully on board with rejoining the Redskins, sign a deal and then—do nothing. Well, he will be able to go to meetings, eat meals with the guys, and all of that. However, when the Redskins take the practice field on Friday, Grossman will be no more than a spectator. The same will go for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and so on until the next Thursday when Grossman will be able to take the field.
To add to this, a couple reporters at the Park have tweeted that DeJon Gomes was the first player in the parking lot this morning, at 7:30am....I think it's very wise for a rookie to get in as early as possible. This is PFT style "news". I expect better from Tandler.
This is generally what I expect from Tandler.I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with here, though. In a QB competition, will giving one QB more 1st team reps be an advantage or a disadvantage to that QB?Skins re-sign Santana Moss to 3-year deal.![]()

More from NFL Network: Vikes and Skins have parameters of a deal for McNabb but agreeing on financial terms with him could be tricky...
I'm happy, but I hope Moss can become a #2 and we get someone like Rice or Holmes to be a true #1. (unless Hankerson is that good)Skins re-sign Santana Moss to 3-year deal.![]()
I'm not sure I would consider Moss to have been a #1 last season. He was used a lot like the Patriots have used Wes Welker. Quite frankly, if the offense last season could set team records despite the QB and OL mess, I think the addition of Hankerson is more than enough to build on for this, and future, seasons. I, for one, am hoping they don't throw a lot of money at one of the big FA WRs.I'm happy, but I hope Moss can become a #2 and we get someone like Rice or Holmes to be a true #1. I have my doubts whether either Rice or Holmes are true #1s. I think he can still contribute for 2-3 years.....as long as that team is smart enough to make sure that their OC can get along with McNabb.McNabb is no longer a franchise QB. If anyone has any delusions about this season just read the bolded. There is talk about a QB "competition" between Rex Grossman and John Beck.Vikes agree to trade 6th rounder in 12 and possibly 6th in 13 to Wash for Donovan McNabb. Deal contingent on McNabb agreeing to much less $$

I agree. These are the type of deals I want to avoid. They are not fully proven #1 receivers. I think we have bigger holes to fill first, especially considering the money they would command. Rice is a constant injury risk and Holmes is one F up away from a year suspension. I like the Moss signing. Short years and not big money.'dgreen said:I have my doubts whether either Rice or Holmes are true #1s. I would guess that is the plan. I think he is more a NT than a 3-4 DE. I really have not though to him as a potential 3-4 NT either though. Then again, we had Vonnie Holliday playing NT last year for long stretches. And Jay Ratliff plays a pretty good 3-4 NT and he is about the same size as Cofield. Very interested in hearing the money on this contract. Will Coefield play NT?
Pretty much. I still think they'll go after another dlineman in FA. Cullen Jenkins is the popular rumor. I think they should give Perry Riley every chance to win the ILB gig.So I guess this is what we're looking at right now:
Code:?????? Carricker Coefield J.Jenkins Hall Kerrigan ?????? Fletcher Orakpo Landry Atogwe
I was wondering if getting Coefield meant no Jenkins. According to the WaPo, the Redskins haven't contacted Jenkins yet. I agree they need more, but I'm not sure how much they can spend there.Pretty much. I still think they'll go after another dlineman in FA. Cullen Jenkins is the popular rumor. According to Tandler they were $26 million under the cap. That is before trading McNabb. That frees up another 4.75 million. With the new rookie scale, Kerrigan isn't going to get a massive deal. Derrick Morgan was the #16 pick last year and he got a 5 year $15 million contract. Kerrigan is in line to get less dough than that. The way I see it, they still have plenty to spend although they almost certainly need to add a starting caliber CB and OT whether they resign their own guys or not.I was wondering if getting Coefield meant no Jenkins. What's he gonna do? Drive Haynesworth out of town?Reports are the 'Skins have signed Donte Stallworth.
I didn't realize they had that much to spend, but I also agree with you that they still have several holes to fill with all that money. Another DL, 2 OL, a CB, ILB. One of the OL positions can probably be on the cheaper side and probably the ILB, too. But, another quality DL, OL, and CB are going to cost. Of course, none of that addresses QB if they want to do anything this offseason. The way I see it, they still have plenty to spend although they almost certainly need to add a starting caliber CB and OT whether they resign their own guys or not.
That probably closes the door on pursuing one of the top FA WRs. That would give them Moss, Armstrong, Hankerson, Stallworth, Kelly, Banks, Austin, Paul, and others.Reports are the 'Skins have signed Donte Stallworth.
Or maybe not. I thought he had been productive more recently. 19 receptions the last three years, largely due to injuries and suspension (jail?). I guess this more of a "Sure, let's take a chance on him and see what happens" signing rather than a "He'll round out our WR corp" signing. That probably closes the door on pursuing one of the top FA WRs. Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being camp fodder. Probably just brought in as another veteran presence to help bring along the rookies through camp or beyond.Or maybe not. Giants have till Friday to match, he's an RFA.Cofield's contract is 6 years, $36 million; $11 million guaranteed.
