Who would want him? I'm all for trading him, but not sure what we would expect to get for him.Can we trade Fred Davis? I mean if he's not even going to be active, why not?
Completely agree Matt! RGIII looks more and more like the version we had last year. Although, he seems to be going through some eyes locked on one WR and some real non-caring what happens type throws too. If he was a rookie, then these two issues would be attributed to him being a rookie, but he didn't do that last year, but clearly is now doing it. Maybe it is the desperation of being 1-4, but right now I get a bit nervous when he drops back and that has nothing to do with health and comfort of his leg.The offense has definitely gotten better, still not as good as last year, but there have been improvements. The running game seems to be back on track the last couple of weeks. RG3 still seems inaccurate and careless with some of his throws, but he looks more comfortable back there now.For all of those that say the offense is improved, that is a partly true and not completely there. CHI lost Briggs (who had our # all game) and Tillman during the second half. Add that the pass to A. Robinson was a fluke TD from a pass that never should have been thrown. Let's face it, bad play by CB and S falls down...is the only reason it worked.
Some nice runs as the game went along and Reed is a BEAST. Gotta give it there, we found a gem of a player!
Our D generated almost zero pass rush and was getting it handed to them by a back up. Merriweather hurts us as much as he helps us. Haz seems intent on playing only one safety a lot too...why? Adding Biggers on the field is really better than having Doughty out there?
I personally think the record has alot to do with it. I think RG3 is just trying to do too much on some plays instead of taking what is there. He got really lucky with that TD pass to Robinson. If Tillman times that better, it's an easy INT. RG3 needs to let the game come back to him like last year when he wasn't forcing throws.Completely agree Matt! We should strike up a conversation with BUF to get the disgruntled Safety (Byrd). We would have to sweeten the pot a bit, but I think it would be legit to at least see if there is interest.Who would want him? That't not a bad idea. Wasn't Buffalo one of the teams trying to sign Fred during the offseason? I just think Reed was so open on most plays, he was just an easy target. Wouldn't be too concerned going forward. Garcon did have 2 drops in the 1st quarter. So his day should have been better.Anyone concerned about garçon' lack of use in the first 3 quarters? Is he having trouble getting open? Did they double him and he just wasn't an option?
No, up until the CHI game...opposing teams only had to focus on him, now they have to take Reed into consideration and that should make him not as much the sole focus for Defenses.Anyone concerned about garçon' lack of use in the first 3 quarters? Is it just my selective memory, or did the 'Skins not blitz very much against McCown in the 2nd half? I just don't recall them sending extra guys very much, so I'm wondering if they changed something up at halftime and decided to gamble and force McCown to beat them with his arm. If that was the case, it obviously backfired as McCown seemed to have plenty of time to find his big receivers and/or lots of space to run with defenders downfield covering.MattFancy said:I just have no idea what to expect from the Skins D. Timing-wise, it was a good idea to call a deep pass. The run game had been going great and they were at mid field in a tie game. While Robinson isn't the ideal target on such a pass, I actually like that he put one up for grabs. I think he doesn't do that enough on deep balls.MattFancy said:I personally think the record has alot to do with it. That's my recollection, too. There were a few blitzes that created pressure, but somehow McCown turned into Vick (or at least Romo) and worked his way out and made plays. It was annoying. They dominated Chicago in the first half. I guess some credit should go to Chicago for accomplishing what they did with McCown. Is it just my selective memory, or did the 'Skins not blitz very much against McCown in the 2nd half? Green Bay might make some sense.Rotoworld says we are indeed trying to trade Davis. Speculation is that it would be for a late rounder, maybe conditional, at best.
Whatever. Get what you can for him.
It's definitely possible, depends how much they like their own guys. GB rarely trades for other teams players, or even signs them in FA. They seem to like Bostic. But who knows.Green Bay might make some sense.Rotoworld says we are indeed trying to trade Davis. Speculation is that it would be for a late rounder, maybe conditional, at best.

He should be out of the league. Dude is a dirty player plain and simple.Meriweather officially suspended for two games. Good.
The few times I was able to focus on Garcon he didn't look very open. But that's a small sample set.JustinHawkins said:Anyone concerned about garçon' lack of use in the first 3 quarters? Is he having trouble getting open? Did they double him and he just wasn't an option?
Meriweather was not immediately available to comment after the suspension was announced and it was not clear if he will appeal. If the suspension stands, he will miss the Redskins’ game Sunday at Denver and a Nov. 3 home game against the San Diego Chargers.
If Meriweather appeals, there will be an expedited hearing with a decision requested before Sunday’s game, according to the league.
Nevermind. Looks like it was a 2-man route with Morgan and Robinson. Griffin definitely looks to Morgan first (and maybe follows him across the field) before going deep. Tillman ends up out of position to make a play on the ball because he turned the wrong way when the ball was in the air. However, Robinson did blow by him so Tillman was trailing the play already.Timing-wise, it was a good idea to call a deep pass. I'll have to watch the all 22 on that play later, but from what I can see on the official NFL highlight video...
Robinson was his third read. He looks right, medium left, and then goes deep left. So, I'm not sure that was him "forcing" it as much as it was going for something as his internal clock was winding down. I think that second look to Morgan (medium left) brought the CB up. You can see a little wave by Griffin to Morgan (maybe) just before throwing deep. It's not so much that the CB mistimed his jump, rather he cheated up thinking it was going to Morgan, knowing he had a S helping on Robinson. The S was on the ground because he bumped into Robinson around the 2 or 3. When the play happened, I was actually expecting a PI call. And, it's those type of PI calls that I think we don't get because we don't take shots deep to covered receivers. The deep PI to a covered receiver is part of the NFL playbook.
Of course, if it was picked, I'd probably be saying, "YOU CAN'T MAKE THAT THROW." But, honestly, as a less-than-amateur NFL analyst, I think Griffin did a good job of taking a chance.
From what I recall, I kept seeing 5 guys rushing the QB, but not much of a stay at home (middle) type rush. This allowed McCown the ability to step up and take off. I saw Perry Riley blitz too, with Rak & Kerrigan for most of the game. Other than the sack where Cutler got hurt, very little effective pass rush at all.Is it just my selective memory, or did the 'Skins not blitz very much against McCown in the 2nd half? I just don't recall them sending extra guys very much, so I'm wondering if they changed something up at halftime and decided to gamble and force McCown to beat them with his arm. Tillman had the underneath because he knew he had Safety help, only problem was the Safety lost his footing after Robinson bumped into him and thus had no over the top coverage on him.Nevermind. The game could be catastrophic for the Skins, I think we all recognize that. Denver's passing offense is prolific, Manning's their QB, and the Skins safeties may well be Baccari Rambo and E J Biggers. At the same time the Broncos have one of the better run defenses in the league. How bad are the redskins defense going to look against Peyton and the Broncos this coming Sunday. Im scared.
Embarrassing. I just hope it doesn't take a serious injury for the NFL to take what this guy is doing seriously.
The NFL hasn't exactly been lenient with stuff like this in recent years. That leads me to believe that, after further review, they don't think his plays were as bad as initially thought or it could mean that they will gradually move back towards the old days (but not all the way back) now that they've settled the CTE lawsuit. I'd tend to believe the former. I'm not here to defend Meriweather, but I think there was a little too much overreaction to those two hits against Chicago.Embarrassing. He probably hurt it falling to the ground before one of kids could tackle him. :avoidcontactatallcosts:So Hankerson hurt his foot playing with his kids? Nice.
If this was the first game it happened then I understand, but shouldn't the Packers game have been the slap on the wrist and this time been some serious punishment? He knocked out a starting RB for 2 weeks and then knocked himself out in the same game. Twice in one game should be enough to warrant punishment. Two times in 2 separate games should warrant at least a multiple game suspension (3+). Does anybody honestly think a 1 game suspension, especially in a lost game anyways, is going to change his behavior? I also read somewhere (not sure where) that he was acting like an ### afterwards and acting like he didn't care. The NFL hasn't exactly been lenient with stuff like this in recent years. Couldn't disagree more. Manning makes almost all defenses look silly. It would be stupid to judge the defensive coordinator based on a game where you have the worst safeties (by far) in the league starting against maybe the greatest offense in history. Nonsense.I'll say it now...this will be the game that decides if Hazlett has a job or not. Not saying it happens immediately one way or another, but if 'Skins are truly embarrassed defensively (laughable) then internally the decision will be made to move on at season's end or if D has another super poor performance. If by some chance, the 'Skins pull a Jeckle & Hyde and the D looks out of this world...then we are stuck with him and his defensive ways until the cows ...errrrr....hogs come home.
First, I'm not sure anything will really change the way he plays. He doesn't think he's doing anything wrong and coaches are obviously ok with it since they keep putting him out there. His goal is to hit people hard. Sometimes, when attempting that, helmets hit helmets. I really don't think he's intentionally targeting helmets with his own helmet. I'm not sure anyone does that.If this was the first game it happened then I understand, but shouldn't the Packers game have been the slap on the wrist and this time been some serious punishment? Thanks. I've lived in the DC area for the past 6 years and really respect the team (as much as a division rival could), so I appreciate you're honest response instead of taking my posts as an insult to the team. I really like the way the team is going and they are very respectable minus the one bad apple. Tough spot for the organization to be in because he is the teams best safety. Hopefully replacing him in the near future is in the teams plans because he's starting to give the organization a bad rep, IMO.First, I'm not sure anything will really change the way he plays. I'm not sure anyone does that.Second, he's been punished for both games and I'm not sure it's clear that they should be more or not. Personally, I'd consider a punishment that costs me 1/16th of my annual income (1 game suspension without pay) to be pretty severe. That would be equivalent to fining someone $6,250 who makes $100,000 a year. His fine for the hit on Lacy was approximately 3% of his salary. To-date, that means he's lost nearly 10% of his salary. He's had other fines in the past around $50k and $20k. I'm sure the NFL uses a progressive discipline approach for various violations. If he does it again, the punishment will be even stronger. Maybe he does make a change and we'll see how fans react when he lays up on a receiver and that receiver catches an important TD.If this was the first game it happened then I understand, but shouldn't the Packers game have been the slap on the wrist and this time been some serious punishment? Third, if he was acting like an ###, it could be because he's an ###. Not sure what to say about that. Some people are #######s. I have no idea if Meriweather is an ### or not, but I guarantee every season, every team has at least one ### on the roster.
Like I said, I'm not here to defend Meriweather. If I was forced to guess, I'd guess he's a punk. I still remember him throwing sucker punches in U of Miami on-field brawl and thinking he was a punk. Maybe he hasn't matured a lot over the years. But, the fact is he's the team's best safety even when you take the penalties into account. I wish Pugh and whoever else all the luck in the world, but I'm not expecting the team to better with them.
You're not fully remembering Sean Taylor. He learned. Merriweather does not. Even if they were equals in talent (and they're not, there's an ocean of separation between them), Taylor was a better team player than Merriweather. To be honest, I usually like having one bad apple on defense. Preferably that bad apple would be more talented than Meriweather, though. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Sean Taylor would have picked up as many fines and suspensions as Meriweather. In some ways, Taylor was a bad apple on the field. He had his share of late hits and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. He made a living nailing "defenseless receivers". Everyone once in a while, I bet his helmet would have hit their helmet.
Looking silly is expected...I said embarrassing. Now he has a good excuse considering the Safety situation, but those excuses will run out at some point.Couldn't disagree more. Me too...loved watching R. Lott play and strike fear into any offensive player coming past the line of scrimmage, Sean Taylor was truly starting on that and would have gotten there soon enough. I can take penalty or two for what the outcome of the hit may provide. The problem with Merriweather is goes for the massive take out shots, but nobody is taken out. Thus it just comes across as a dirty type play. I've never seen someone go for so many KILL shots and nothing much happen. If he truly hit hard and hit with the crown of the helmet, the hit would devastating and the WR would not get up. So, no fear just feelings of dirty SOB and sit out for one play...see you in a play two later is the reaction. To be honest, I usually like having one bad apple on defense. Preferably that bad apple would be more talented than Meriweather, though. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Sean Taylor would have picked up as many fines and suspensions as Meriweather. I agree. Not sure why Moss isn't back there. It's not like they have him out on offense much. I think I saw him run maybe a handful of routes last week. Even though he's not as explosive as he was in his prime, he's got to be better than the Morgan/Thompson combo they've been trotting out there.dgreen said:Has anyone else noticed or punt returners' lack of desire to catch the ball? Thompson let the ball hit the ground a lot and so does Morgan. There have been several punts that could have easily been caught, at least with a fair catch, and they are just letting it hit the ground. Frustrating. Time to put Moss back on punts. Sadly, he might be the best they have.
Even when they catch it, they do nothing but run right into the opposing team. I don't think I can recall a time when our return game (kick-offs and punts) has been as ineffective as it is this season.dgreen said:Has anyone else noticed or punt returners' lack of desire to catch the ball? If the kickoff lands in the end zone I would rather these guys just down it cause they sure as hell can't return it past or even to the 20.Even when they catch it, they do nothing but run right into the opposing team. There have been several punts that could have easily been caught, at least with a fair catch, and they are just letting it hit the ground. Frustrating. Time to put Moss back on punts. Sadly, he might be the best they have.
