***OFFICIAL*** Week 7 A. Gates Bye Week (1 Viewer)

Being a Gates owner in a relatively small roster league (12 teams, 15 roster spots), I have the luxury of only carrying one TE throughout the bulk of the season, with the notable exception of this week, 7, when Mr. Antonio Gates in on bye.

Potential Targets:

Alex Smith, TB

Chris Baker, NYJ

Randy McMichael, STL

Marcus Pollard, SEA

Bo Scaife, TEN

Alright Gates owners, who do you have on your bench ready to take the TE reigns for a one week drive, or who are you targeting on the WW/FA pool? And, of course, why?

Gates is so dominating that I may just start him anyway and see what happens.
hahaha...so trueanyway i've had watson sitting on my bench all year backing up gates, and of course, the week i'll need there is injury speculation, im waiting around till thursday waiver wire day to hear anything new, if it doesn't look like he'll play i guess i'll have to dump off someone to pick up a TE...

Early work out of Denver is that Scheffler is ready to get back into some game action. He had great chemistry with Cutler down the stretch last year, so thats a positive. The real issue is how many two TE sets the Broncos plan to run against Pittsburgh. With Denver historically hard pressed to run effectively against a 3-4 defense, I'm thinking Cutler will sling the rock a bit more than usual in this week's contest. If Scheffler sees the field, I could see him being a sneaky play this week. You might not even have to waste your waiver position on him, as most will be sleeping on him.

The Denver Broncos announced on Monday that both center Tom Nalen and tight end Nate Jackson have been lost for the season with injuries.

Jackson, who emerged as the team's No. 2 tight end, suffered a torn groin.
Scheffler is now the receiving TE.

Scheffler was the first name that came to mind who should be available in every league.

Also:

David Martin, who was Lemon's preferred target in the red zone vs. Cleveland

Quinn Sypniewski, who should start again with Heap banged up

More as I think of them.

Donald Lee is probably rostered in most leagues, but his value probably rises further with Bubba out for awhile.

I managed to get Witten in the 11th round of my draft, so I'll be using him this week.
My plan too. :thumbup:With our league's scoring he's actually neck and neck with Gates at the top--so I've been watching matchups between the two. Hasn't actually happened yet, but they favor playing Witten weeks 12 and 13 for sure (NYJ & GB vs. Balt & KC), and the Giants are slightly better than Indy in week 10. Minnesota is a pretty fair matchup for this bye week, too.

I picked up Eric Johnson last week and nobody seemed to care, so he could be available. He's been consistently targeted and could get you a fluke TD like he did this week. Especially if the Saints remember how to play football again.

Marcedes Lewis deserves some consideration.

He's been getting multiple looks and although he hasn't scored a TD yet this season, he been fairly consistent.

he's averaging 3 catches for 32 yards. Toss is a TD with those numbers and you get double digits from the TE slot...which is all you can really ask for.

I think I'm going to roll with Bo Scaife. Got a good amount of targets w/ Sherry Collins in there last week - 4 or 5 within two quarters.

Was gonna go with Bo Scaife or Scheffler but I made a trade and someone tossed in Heath Miller so I should be good to go this week

My original plan was to use Crumpler, but it's apparent after 6 weeks that he's lost in that offense without Vick.

I didn't see Watson injure his ankle, but is the speculation that he'll be out this week?
David Yudkin said in a Ben Watson thread that his insider source is telling him Watson (and Morris) could be out until week 11. His source has been perfect on Maroney.

The only problem I see re: Scheffler is that you have Graham as well. While Graham is used as much for his great blocking ability, IIRC he gets some looks from time to time as well.

Graham has 12 targets this year for an average of 2.4 per game. Scheffler has 5 targets in the last two games for an average of 2.5 per game. In the last game (Week 5 vs. San Diego), Scheffler had 3 targets and Graham had 2. As Scheffler gets up to game speed, I expect his chemistry with Cutler, as well as his inferior blocking skills (when compared to Graham), will lead to even more targets, likely surpassing Graham's looks. Keep in mind that the Broncos' starting OL will have two players at new positions this week due to Tom Nalen's season ending bicep injury. While the changes are on the interior of the line, I can envision Graham being used as more of a second tackle, especially against Pittsburgh's aggressive, blitzing 3-4 defense.

Good info - thanks.

In my deep league (12 team, 20 man rosters) I just grabbed Chris Baker (no sense drafting another TE) who has a handful of TDs on the year. Thought about Scaife and Scheffler though, may switch later. Figure Baker has the best shot at a TD though given that the Jets have looked to him in the red zone for at least 3 looks this year.

In my other league with Winslow I grabbed LJ Smith over the likes of the three players mentioned above (Gates owner beat me to Olsen).

My team isnt great, but Gates is my key cog, so this week I took a chance on Baker. His matchup is very good, and I am a Jets homer, and I valued him over Pollard (and the others were taken in my deep league). I like Baker this week, he has good hands and the Jets are not bad in between the twenties and Cincy gives up yardage in bunches. Hoping for 5-45-1

I had drafted LJ Smith to back up Gates thinking Smith would be at full strength by now. He finally got some action last week and caught one pass. Anyone know if he's ready to contribute- will get some more plays this week- or if he is going to be brought along slowly? I may drop him for a better option but there's not much out there.

I own Gates in almost all of my leagues and I'm mostly going with Greg Olsen next week. However, I did pick up Vernon Davis in a ten teamer league.

Thread works for Winslow owners as well.
Yup. I'm going with either Olsen, Miller or Eric Johnson depending on how things shake out on the WW order. I like Olsen quite a bit. Griese is getting the passing game back for the Bears and Olsen is getting more and more involved.

 I noticed this as well. If Kerry is starting next week Scaife will be who I'm starting. The catches he had were for decent production and he was targetted on a few longer passes as well.

:lmao:
Or if you were smart after this week trade Witten for someone pretty good. You don't need to carry two TE's

Unless you can start a TE at WR/Flex. :lmao:
