**Official** Who is this Years "Mike Furrey" Thread? (1 Viewer)

Derek Hagan

I think he will take over as the #2 in Miami, and if Chambers struggles again he has a chance to put up very good numbers.

excellent thread . . . a lot of people have picked Walter in HOU, but Mathis or Jones (the rookie) could step up and take that #2 position . . . Walter is slow as molasses, so he wouldnt be that effective on the outside . . .

I don't think he'll have anywhere near the number of catches to get close to 1000 yards, but one rookie WR who may get some deep shots is Jax WR Mike Walker. He certainly got some attention at this week's mini-camp-

From the Jags' website:

Mike Walker—“He’s got natural route-running ability. He attacks the ball. He certainly has the speed and he’s playing at the speed he was timed at,” Smith said of the third-round wide receiver from Central Florida.

Walker, who ran a 4.35 at the scouting combine, nearly made a leaping catch in the back of the end zone in red-zone passing drills Sunday morning. He opened eyes with how high he jumped in attempting to catch the pass.
http://www.jaguars.com/news/article.aspx?id=6037In a radio interview this week, he said-

He feels that he will fit right in because his favorite route is the deep post, and that they told him he was picked to take it deep.
http://mb.jaguars.com/Topic251491-6-1.aspxHe even caught Fred Taylor's attention-

Jaguars running back Fred Taylor said Walker reminds him of Houston Texans Pro Bowl wide receiver Andre Johnson.

"If he can play like that, I'll fall in love with him," Taylor said.
http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stor...169574922.shtmlAgain, I don't see him catching a whole lot of balls. But I could see him used as a slot receiver and getting a couple of deep shots a game.

Hank Baskett

Bryant Johnson

Terrence Copper

Patrick Crayton

Tab Perry

All are veterans who are currently back-ups in passing offenses. More of an injury opportunity type situation with each but if we're throwing darts at a board I'll throw them at these type of players.

New to the thread:

Ruvell Martin

He's going to be competing with Ferguson who almost got cut last year during the season and looked decent in his limited amount of action. Also, Favre seemed to look his way quite a bit while he was on the field.

If he wins the #3 job and Jennings gets nicked up again I can see him catching 60 balls next season.
:pickle:
and maybe Ruvell Martin (who?) out of GB if something were to happen to Driver or Jennings?
:D Its all good BLOX...I don't mind Martin getting some extra love...Ruvell Martin #82 | Wide Receiver | Green Bay Packers

Roster:

Height: 6-4 Weight: 217

Born: Aug 10, 1982

College: Saginaw Valley

Draft: None

Martin earned All-NFL Europe honors after leading the league with 679 receiving yards and twelve touchdowns for the 2005 World Bowl champion Amsterdam Admirals.

In the final game of the 2006 season against the Chicago Bears, Martin, starting in place of absent wideout Greg Jennings, caught seven passes for 118 yards.

He could be another guy I started hyping that paid off like Mr. Marques did last season...

This thread turned from "What obscure player barely making rosters turns into having a great season" into "List whatever WR you think will have a good season next year"

So my formal submission is Larry Fitzgerald.

To try and keep in line with the original idea of the posting.....as well as not name players already on the list

Taylor Jacobs (SF)

Brad Smith (NYJ)

I think Travis Wilson & Derek Hagan are the best of the ones already named.

For those saying Reggie Williams, I think its far more plausible to be Matt Jones. If Jones is moved to the slot, where he doesnt have to deal with getting by a jamming CB, then he will be a monster. Speed to burn, great hands and a good relationship with Byron Leftwich.
I disagree. I don't think Jones or Williams applies to this thread, but I will say that Williams clearly has the better chance to blow up this year. Look at his numbers with Leftwich in there last year - pretty nice.If you really want a Jags deep sleeper, how about Mike Walker?

I have the perfect candidate, but I can't mention him until I take him in my ongoing dynasty startup draft...

Troy Williamson If you watched this guy last year, you'd know that he had absolutely no problem getting open...just bringing the ball in. I think he starts to "Bring them in!"

There, I said..you can either catch it or drop it. :D

Vikings :: WR

WR Williamson Hoping To Correct Vision

Sean Jensen, St. Paul Pioneer Press - [Full Article]

After undergoing vision testing at Nike last week, Vikings WR Troy Williamson learned about some non-surgical procedures that could improve his ability to see and catch the ball. Williamson, HC Brad Childress, trainers and an eye specialist at Nike developed a program, and Williamson took the tests last week, agent David Canter said. Among the things tested: Williamson's hand-eye coordination, whether one eye was stronger than the other, how well he saw things in different lighting, and how he tracked balls coming at him from a variety of angles. "Troy said it was very helpful, and he was really excited," Canter said.

This I think is more of a who will be the next Colston question.... the Furrey situation was unique.
:fishing: Colston / Cotchery / Housh... are the types we're discussing. Was there a "Furrey" before 2006?

I concur, the hype has quieted somewhat but he played better when healthy than most give him credit for.I'll add Peerless Price to the conversation.
 Perhaps Steve Smith, NYG? its a long reach, I know, but Toomer is getting up there in age, and who knows about Plax from year to year..

what about Wes Welker, with all the focus on Randy,Watson, Stallworth, Welker will get a lot of looks underneath.

since this is my thread i guess i can really do as i wish....

but what about drew carter...not sure if any of you mentioned him...but i really like his upside....even though he is not as unknown as furrey going into this year and will probably be starting...he has the skills to do some damage...

could be a repeat..sorry is do;

Wes Welker...allready looking like Bradys favorite target and safty valve in workouts so far.

Ekim Yerruf.

Don't like that one?

OK, just 'cause he hasn't been mentioned yet, Roydell Williams. No clear go to guy in TEN, and although I agree with those saying Brandon Jones will be the man, the situation is still fluid enough for a different 3rd year WR to emerge.

I like Williams too, he and Bobby Wade are the first two that come to mind when reading the OP.

Someone I can't believe is flying so low under the radar is Craig "Buster" Davis. He was the most consistent receiver at LSU while he was there. More consistent than Dwayne Bowe. He's flying super low because of Vincent Jackson? Jackson hasn't proven anything in SD, yet he's being taken extremely early while Davis is going undrafted.

SHHHHHHH and if you're in return pts leagues, it's an added bonus :goodposting:

I know this is a really deep....like, 6 ft deep sleeper, but I gonna really reach for this one. In Denver, (homer  ), Javon Walker will be the #1 WR. There is no doubt about this. But what about #2???

There has been alot of speculation over whether or not Rod Smith will really have much impact this year. Brandon Stokely could be a sleeper, but is still coming off that injury and may not be 100%. And Brandon Marshall, the guy I would like to see be the #2, seems to be getting injured every other practice. So what are we left with?

David Kircus. He has the speed and good hands and made some terrific catches in limited time last year. If those other WRs can't go, I would love to see him across from Walker.

Okay, so I don't have him on my roster yet, but like I said...a deeeeppp sleeper.

I love welkers potential. moss has been hurt and is fading. and stallworth is always hurt. welker is in his 3rd year and could really step up this year. espcially if one goes down with an injury
