Official ***Winter Olympics Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Nighttime coverage was awful. The daytime stuff when they decided to show it was pretty good.

I love NBC's football, hockey and soccer coverage. Best in the business IMO. Not sure why they can't get it together with the Olympics.
Just the Winter Olympics. I thought the London Olympics coverage by them was pretty good. It actually had me pumped for the Winter Olympics coverage. One step forward, 100 steps back.
Summer Olympics doesn't really have anything comparable to Ice Skating/Dancing that dominates the ratings so I think they spread the coverage around a lot better.

I blame the women tv viewers. They drive all those personal story vignettes and crap that NBC loves to put on instead of just showing live sporting events that men want to see.
Oy, that men want to see? You guys had all the other "male" dominated sports to check out. We had this one. Summer O has more sporting events than winter. There's only so much sport you can do on ice/snow. Winter O imo is not nearly as entertaining as summer, including the ice skating. I'd rather see gymnastics than ice skating. These O seemed to try and get more sport variety by adding 12 new events, which only one was in figure skating with the addition of the team medal. IMO you need to be a hard core skiier, snow boarder, etc to really get into the winter Os vs summer that has such a nice variety from water to land so to speak.
Seem fixated on the big 'O'. NTTATWWT :coffee:

When does this thing start btw?

TIA.
2018. You have plenty of time.
Thank god I didn't miss anything.

She one me told me the Olympics were on and that the US hockey team was playing Canada live, noon eastern. But I went to NBC and it was daytime tv. Then I heard some rumor that on Saturday afternoon they were playing the bronze medal game... But if that's not on the main network live then obviously there can't be an Olympics going on. Just wanted to make sure.

Men want action. Women want stories. Generally speaking. It's obvious which group NBC caters their Olympic coverage towards.
They do stories in summer O too. They have to fill 17 days. There's only so many winter sports, and they tried doing this by adding 12 more events. Still time on their hands, so the touching stories, which if I were the olympian that had one from rags to riches so to speak, I'd want it to be told. Think the men would too.

This is kind of an oversimplification. The obscurity of winter sports athletes is a major factor as well. Major sports that stay on the public's radar year-to-year don't require the athlete's backstories to be shown constantly. In the Olympics, how else is the audience supposed to be able to tell the guy whose father died apart from the guy whose sister died.

Koya's record breaking 15th complaint about the NBC sports network.

We're witnessing history here folks.
I'll give them a pass for catering to the female audience, although I think they do so with such a harsh hand that they lose a good number of potential viewers.

That's said, how do you take THE marquee event for the male demographic and just bury hockey? It's asinine.

I would not mind a 10 minute backstory. But I swear I saw the same two backstories that each lasted a good 30 minutes repeated in prime viewing hours? Why? The stories drug out and were slow. Despite the amputee being fairly hot, it was a 10 minute story, not a 30 minute saga.

WO have a variety from water to land, as well. It's just frozen.
