***Paris 2024 Summer Olympics: July 26-August 11*** USA dominates medal count; Finish tied w/ China for most golds - See ya in Milan 2026! (2 Viewers)

I hope she embraces it. Being a lolcow can be a very profitable venture.

Hawk Tuah really leaned into it.
I hear that raygun will throw out the first pitch at a Mets game in September when they are eliminated from the playoffs
Thats called free style and its in the x-games. No reason why it cant be in the olympics

I don't get it, I loved the breaking competition. The energy, passion, and personalities were perfect IMO. So much positivity, artistry, and challenge - across the board.

RE for all those but hurt with Raygun, you can pound sand and read/watch Eddie the Eagle

Nope. Eddie didn't deprive anyone of a chance to go to the Games. The Brits don't exactly have any competitors in ski jumping. He chose the sport in part for that reason.

Also, he didn't take any shine from the other competitors. He brought more favorable attention to them.

(Does "butt" not pass the board censors?)

My issue with the breaking competition was I just don’t think I understood it. What elements must be included and how they are scored. Because every match I saw, including a couple medal matches, I couldn’t help but think that I’d seen better (maybe even far better) performances in other contexts. Way more visually exciting and acrobatic performances. Which leads me to conclude that I must not understand the sport of breaking as opposed to breaking as performance art.

You are correct. I've seen videos of what looked like ten-year-olds breaking better.

How many sports at the Olympics do you "understand"? Ping pong and badminton? Other than the score, do you "understand" them?

So then how did Raygun get to the Olympics? Are you purporting something malicious or incompetence? How did she get there? Who was robbed of going and how?

I'm with Eddie the Eagle, I want to go to the Olympics. Just going would be amazing.

Says who? And what is your point?

What about skiers trying for gold? Are they not lucky they aren't killing themselves with how much they are pushing themselves?

Yes, I understand both of those sports. A bunch of others as well. Not sure what you’re getting at. My point was that I was underwhelmed by the performances but chalk that up to my own ignorance rather than the skill of the competitors, which I can only assume is world class.

Eddie was ill-equipped to ski jump.

Read his Wiki: Link

A rule was made after Eddie so that the situation (hopefully) wouldn't come up again.

They did make sure he could actually safely make the jumps. They didn't just shove him off the bench.

I have no idea. The Australian Olympics people who authorize this sort of thing should have their heads examined. I guess that would be the incompetent part.

But someone who could actually break was not there because she was.

This article is a pretty interesting read on the subject.

I especially feel bad for the Aussie ladies who can really dance. It will take some time for them to live this one down, and they didn't even do anything wrong.

Easy there, hoss.

The Washington Post has an interesting article about wheelchair rugby for those who can see behind the paywall. It's like the Thunderdome but with wheels.

There is a great documentary about wheelchair rugby from about 20 years ago called “Murderball.” The title is a bit hyperbolic but it’s well-done.
