So there is supposed to be this big ice storm coming through the midwest.

Here in Southwest Missouri the entire region preemptively cancelled school last night.  Today: only a cool rain is falling and the roads are wet.   At least traffic was light for my commute into work.

Anyone in an area that actually got hit with some ice?

They keep pushing these named winter storms so they can get all excited like Hurricane season.  Is anybody outside of TV meteorologists concerned with the names for winter storms?

Naming Winter storms is the dumbest idea since "new Coke".

The worst Winter storm I can remember in Michigan was the Blizzard of '78...

You know what we called that??  A "blizzard"

OKC here.  They cancelled schools last night.  Thus far only a light rain, although it has started to freeze on windshields/etc.

Yeah, basically the same here.  I just find the cancelling of school before a drop has hit the ground a little premature.  My wife is a teacher so I'm just jealous and bitter.

There are now some power outages in the area from downed trees and power lines.

On a plus side, tickets to the Steelers-Chiefs game have plummeted.  You can get lower bowl seats for less than $100 and upper deck is as low as $28.

the starting to freeze part doesn't give you pause for later in the day?

I get the reactionary hype machine of tv "news" getting annoying... but sounds like if stuff's already freezing, they may have done everybody a solid here, rather than letting kids go to school in the am only to have the roads untenable by the afternoon for pickup. plus, yeah- jupiter IS a pretty kick ### name.

The temperature is actually above freezing and is only going to rise throughout the day.  If it wasn't on the roads at 4:00 am, it isn't going to start icing them up now.

Houston:  Temperature has now dropped to 73.  Adjusting to the sudden absence of air conditioner noise more traumatic than expected.

T&P appreciated. Will post more updates as they happen.

Houston update: Line at Dairy Queen is literally to the door. 9 deep. People are pulling together to get through it though and bending the line along the wall.
