Hopefully some good bench guys can augment a so-so lineup. I am still smarting from having Arky sniped from me. Don't think I've had him since that first time, ages and ages ago.

Not impressed. Several Non-starters in that line-up.

Has Rose ever done anything in any of our leagues? I recall him being underwelming.
I generally like switch hitters, so it will be interesting to see how he does. He sucks relative to his price because he has so many PAs, doesn't steal, and doesn't hit for a ton of power. But 33 doubles/11 triples/16 HR should be nice in my park and his 90% contact rate means he can hit-and-run.

I had him in a short-era sim. He was a pretty good in that small pond.
Had him in one or two other sims and I recall him doing fine in one and not-so-fine in another. I think the not-so-fine one was the Roll Dem Bones draft and I got a bad year from him.He should be fine since you're assured of getting his best year.

Ernie Shore, P Red Sox

Maybe it's the positions Im looking at, but they seem a lot less deep than I'd have thought, with a lot of teams still needing to pick one up. 150 IP of good (maybe very good?) starting pitching that compliments my modern era power guys well. Very few HRs, good OAV/OAV+ and not terrible on walks.

At an interesting point in the draft as some franchises have more solid guys than I have on a short list. Obviously you have the scarce franchises too, but some of the more traditional ones have either more or less depth than you'd think.

It was between Ernie and one other guy, who's raw numbers really get your attention - but have the feeling, at least in my ballpark (helps singles, big on XBH's though not homers) Shore might be the more solid, if not as great looking for the stat line, pick. Also, I had thought a few "great value" starters were still left, but as I had a chance to really catch up yesterday, I found that like 2-3 were taken (some embarrassingly long ago). That old question of am I an idiot for not having them at the top of my list or not as it was Shore and the other guy I was really deciding between. But as the others were gone, didn't want to wait another round to get a starter who will see a good amount of innings, likely as a starter.

Anyone have Doug's cell? I think everyone before him has mostly been around. Might want to give a heads up.

12.12- OF Baby Doll Jacobson, Baltilouis Oriowns

Best Baby Doll Available Pic to prove this is an actual person.

A big, hulking 6-foot-3, 215-pound outfielder named Baby Doll? There has to be a story behind that nickname. More than one, as it happens, though they overlap. The story out of Jacobson’s own mouth is probably the right one. In his obituary, The Sporting News quoted him: “Everybody called me Bill until that day in Mobile. It was opening day and a band was playing. Just before the first pitch, they struck up ‘Oh, You Beautiful Doll,’ a popular song at the time. Well, I led off with a homer on the first pitch and a lady sitting behind the plate jumped up and shouted: ‘You must be that beautiful doll they were talking about.’ The name stuck with me and that was it.” [1] The next day’s Mobile Register ran his photograph with the caption “That Baby Doll.”

2B Jackie Robinson, 741 PA, B/B- .342/.432/.5281B Lew Fonseca, 685 PA, A-/A- .369/.426/.532RF Harry Heilmann, 659 PA, C-/C+ .403/.481/.6323B Heinie Zimmerman, 669 PA, D+/B .372/.418/.571LF George Foster, 689 PA, A/B .320/.382/.631CF Baby Doll Jacobson, 713 PA, B/A .355/.402/.501C Ted Simmons, 601 PA, B-/B/A- .318/.408/.500SS Phil Rizzuto, 774 PA, A/C .324/.418/.439Pretty happy now that I look at my lineup. Except for Heinie and Heilmann, defense should be pretty good and I have a lot of PAs. Will need some PAs from C, 1B/3B, and a COF, but I won't need a ton of PAs for any of those bench spots. Now I can focus on pitching, where I only have 1,004 IP so far.

Pump, why not leave a one man list just to avoid confusion or a bandwagon of future picks and the inevitable mayhem to follow

We all know how Doug agonizes over his selections, and with him being gone all day and declaring himself the Clock Czar, we could be looking at sometime Wednesday before this thing moves.

12.14 - Giants SS Jackson, Travis

Not value at all, but I don't have the time I need to weight things the way I normally would like. Dude will serve as a vacuum cleaner alongside Foxx, though.
