I've had this guy twice, and he way outperformed his stats twice. Must be something to jfranco's Deadballer Love.11.15 Jack Taylor, SP, 1900-1909
Tell me if this rings a bell:Those are the kinds of teams I always used to build. Guaranteed to win 88 games and lose to someone playing in Pac Bell in the first round of the playoffs. I'm trying something different this time, but I don't know if it's working any better.
I recall some discussion of lost hrs and the fact that some amount would translate in non hr extra base hits - the theory being it's not as if these guys didn't get hit but with fields with no fences and the deadball there needed to be a better normalization than no hr = out.Tell me if this rings a bell:Those are the kinds of teams I always used to build. Didn't the WIS powers-that-be adjust the sim engine's calculatons at one time to dramatically reduce the HR-prevention of deadball pitchers? And then afterwards a lot of WIS users complained, so they dialed back (but didn't eliminate) whatever that engine correction was?
Back in WIS II homeruns turned into doubles at a preposterously high rate. Still not sure about this team. Playing in Wrigley I hope to hit a lot of homers and not give up many, but I don't know if that will work "in this format". We will see.
It's also the kind of team I always build, and I usually win 88 games and lose in the first round of the playoffs. But I'm stubborn so I'm sticking to it.
The HRs and deadballers approach used to work a lot better before everyone wised up. Also one of my wins was the Uecker league, with no deadballers. And I did draft the lowest possible HR/9 guys and a lot of power on offense.#### you and your ####### ####. #### #### #### god #### it ####ing #### #### ####er.11.18 - Tiny Bonham, P, 1940s
Not sure yet if I'll use his 1940 out of the bullpen or his 42 as a starter. Like both and the flexibility, plus the 40s is getting pretty dang thin.
That does sound sort of familiar. It used to be that they would never give up any HRs. Then they tried to make them give up a lot (basically what their HR/9+ would dictate without using the raw numbers) but it failed and they went most of the way back. Don't remember the details but it was a while ago.Tell me if this rings a bell:Those are the kinds of teams I always used to build. I'm still a believer in the HR/deadballer approach. I think it's just about getting good enough value in the draft, which has gotten tougher over time.Yes, I did, but you guys have gotten a lot smarterThe HRs and deadballers approach used to work a lot better before everyone wised up. Your offense looks sick. My big question in these leagues is that to win it all, you know you will have to go through deadballers (in the playoffs if nothing else) and if you rely too much on the HR, that could be a killer.I'm still a believer in the HR/deadballer approach. It feels like this is the best draft I've had in a long time, but I guess we'll see.

Regardless of who is doing them my teams are not usually favored by rankings. Usually at the top of the middle grouping for my better teams. My teams never do well in any franco ranking.
neither are mine, and I feel like my last few teams have been .500-ish (and often better)My teams never do well in any franco ranking.

For the bullpen, you need about 1400 IP/162 overall. In this format, there's no cost penalty for going over that. The one sim that really threw me off was the RBI baseball sim. IIRC Hoos won with a team that didn't hit for any power. I thought his team was going to be awful.Your offense looks sick. Such different strategy as compared with the limited player pool of the last draft. I remember being concerned about all the walks that Nomo would give up, but I figured that without hugely potent offenses, hopefully those wouldn't hurt as much. In that case I was right. Here you really need to pick your poison. No HRs but gives up hits, that could hurt against teams with high AVGs, give up some HRs but great everywhere else and a team like Sparty's will eat you alive. Every mistake here is magnified and you get punished big time, for it.
It was him or Thome for me, but I would have took him if he got back to me.12.02 Tommy Holmes OF 40's
Why do your rankings always hate me? Is it because my guys have no power? Do I just suck at this? I always seem to do ok when the season rolls around...It is going to be really hard to do rankings this time. I am basically accounting for all the value a player provides, so when someone drafts Reb Russell to be a setup guy, they get more credit than they should. Once we get into the late rounds and people are taking 500+ PA guys as backups, it will get pretty skewed.
I can raise the replacement level I'm using. I'm not sure what the negative effects of that would be.
As of right now I just built the first draft of the rankings and this is what I've got. Keep in mind some teams have 10 and some have 11. This is up to whoever was picked before Gorman Thomas.
