OFFICIAL WIS XVIII THREAD: An Ode to Claude Hendrix (1 Viewer)

I have the same thing. I have 5 all-stars but continue to hover around .500 because I don't have much else....stars and scrubs pretty much.

At least you have a really good record Franco.... :)

I am loaded at SP - 1st and 2nd round talent included. Would prefer to swap Sosa as well as he doesn't quite fit my needs in my park.

Sosa - Swap for a less HR guy and more balanced (I have some HR hitters already and my parks not the best for it). OF/C/2B

My starting pitchers are:

Joss

Koufax

Babe Adams

Spud Chandler

Two mid to high first rounders and a high second rounder plus Chandler. Would deal one if I got an uber bat back (we are talking like Gehrig, Foxx, Speaker types) and a RP in return.

Would even deal Sosa AND one of those pitchers but damn it would need to be sweet as that's a ton of value.

You aren't doin so bad there with the trade, eh? And while Sosa's been only ok (but better than Musial was), Hubie's been great and that was a huge weakness of mine with not many good options out there.

Besides, if you don't expect to pay 200k+ for a Ferrari (Koufax) or a really nice Porsche (not the Cayman bull#### but the barely street legal turbo - Babe Adams) then you are in the wrong dealership.

1st and 2nd round talent deserves 1st and 2nd round talent in return. The possibility of 1st or high 2nd round talent PLUS Sosa? :coffee:

I'm offering 4th round talent (Kelley) for a pitcher that I'd be thrilled were top 10 round talent. :(

Don't forget that some think of Babe Adams as 20th round talent.

Just went 7 strong of one hit ball to at his role in a 1-0 nail biter.

A lot better than when I lost my 25-8 pillow biter.

:D

...

Me, you, moops, and jfranco are in a very interesting battle in the American League. Four teams, three playoff spots. None of us can seem to any real separation in the division races ... and dropping to second is risky bcause the WC may well end up coming from the other division.

Totally. Damn it's a tough league. Then again, I suppose I'm doin ok for a 4 seed.

Been on a bit of a late swoon, but hopefully its one of those expected dips in the season. With my new pitching Im hoping for more consistency. My offense just seems to lack something, which is why I'm trying to one last trade. No real glaring need (other than Catcher I suppose), so it's hard to find the right fit without giving up too much value. Sosa's picking up a bit at least and getting on base at worst.

Going to be a barn burner to the end.

So me and koya did another deal...because that's what we do.
Sosa's come around nicely. Slugging about .450 now after doing nothing and over .400 OBP still. Not great but far better thanStan was doing. Maybe it's best I didn't end up dealing him.

Almost the 100 game mark. A few teams are out if it but some great races coming together.

on live tonight if anyone is around
Stuck on an airplane or I'd duel a few. Guess I can look up more trades (don't even know what I'd need at this point. Catcher but not many good bats at the position).

Addie Joss, hard luck as he has been with run support, inched up to second in the Cy Young race. I think I won one Cy in the past (that's more than Cy Young himself, now), possibly two but think only one - with a couple very close second places due to resting a guy at the end. Can't remember if I've won an MVP or not - maybe with Brett that one year in disco era when he slipped down to me at the four spot?

So, 100 games in, who are the biggest surprises and biggest disappointments. Players and teams.

Stan Coveleski, that dude has always been money for me but this is not his year. OTOH Pete Browning has been way better than expected.

For me:

Surprises:

Nothing huge here. Ashburn had been great with a recent Dip but keeps piling up + on defense.

Larry Walkers been great since I got him.

Mike Griffin is probably the biggest surprise, consistently been over .400 OBP some doubles and good defense.

Done more trades in this than maybe the last five sims combined.

Disappointments:

Before I traded him Vern Stephens sucked, under the Mendoza line.

Any catcher I put in. Wish I held onto Rudy York as he's doing great which is what I'd have expected to be honest. At least very good.

Camilli disappointed as we'll but did just enough with ok D that I brought him back.

Been pretty happy with my relievers in general, especially Ontiveros.

surprise - lance ####### berkman. 4th in MVP voting and was a 23rd round pick. 337/408/565 with 96 RBI out of the 4 spot.

surprise - all my starters ERA 3.62, 3.37, 4.61, 4.30

surprise - my fed league mopup guy has turned into my Long A reliever. has only given up 7 runs in his last 26 IP.

disappointment - most of my bullpen and my entire offense minus chipper, bonds, berkman, and Blanchard.

Surprises:

Don Sutton- My ability to draft pitching is dubious. Sutton's been a rock.

Trading Sosa for Musial- I hoped to have the Roid Brothers together, but Sosa was too meh. Musial has been a shot in the arm for the team, hitting .338/.396/.497 since arriving.

Disappointments-

McGwire (slightly)- .253/.418/.476 was not what I was expecting.

Kelley- I don't want to talk about how my 4th rounder is performing like a 25th rounder

My non-Sutton pitching- Leever and Henry haven't been bad out of the pen, but everyone else, including my rotation, sucks. Just flat out sucks.

we totally biffed the whole 1 live division in the AL. Not blaming you commish, for we all overlooked it. But man, it sucks cause I cant get any live games in
