Official World Cup 2010 Fantasy League (1 Viewer)

3 players/team limit?

14 teams in the league?

How do we want to work the rosters for the knockout round? Does my idea make any sense? You can keep your 1st round roster, but have a smaller starting lineup. You can make worst-to-first waiver pickups based on players who are available after the first round. Maybe cap it at 3 transactions per team? Obviously if your team only has 7 players make it to the knockouts, you can get an 11th player.

So for my understanding...

Your current idea is conducting a waiver wire when Group A/B is finished, , then another when Group C/D is finished, etc... for four total waiver wire periods occurring over four consecutive days?

Although it seems complicated at first, I like it. Each day, we would have 4 more teams in the knockout stage. Maybe each person can submit a waiver list each day with only players on one of those 4 newly advanced team. The players will be added on a worse point total waiver wire to each teams roster for the knockout stage. We could do this all 4 days with little issue aside from the quick turnaround Jun 25/26.

If we do this, will we all only start 11 from day one of knockout for the entirety of the knockout stage?

How many pickups would be allowed each day?

Oh, I meant one waiver phase at the end of the group stage...so between Group H's finish and the knockout round. My idea was to keep the same 11 for the entirety of the knockout stage - as half the teams get eliminated, the pool is going to become too small for everyone to field a full roster. Hopefully by capping a fantasy team at 3 players from a certain team, the whole "they had more players so they won" thing won't happen.

Sounds good. You make the decisions and let's get started. If you need any help, I will. Like I said, I will have an excel sheet set up with rosters and scoring formulas.

When will the draft be taking place? I may need to bail; I'm on vacation the week before the WC.
I would guess it would start on Tuesday (Memorial Day Monday) and we would have until next Friday. The rosters are finalized on June 1 but not made public until June 4. I am sure that won't matter much aside from possibly injury concerns. We could get deep into it before the week before it starts and you could send a list or something after that. As for money, I am cool with the talked about $20-25. I am wondering though with the quick turnaround if we skip any money simply to avoid any payment issues. I am good either way.
I'd definitely rather keep the $20-25 fee. I'm already in a freebie.

Z Machine....Ill take a partner if you want in...

I am a noob. And I am gonna be busy and dont wanna hold up the draft.

Roster size

NOTE: rosters are capped at 3 players for any given team.

Group stage:

2 Goalkeepers

6 Defenders

6 Midfielders

4 Strikers

NO BENCH PLAYERS

Knockout stage rosters:

1 Goalkeeper

4 Defenders

4 Midfielders

2 Strikers

NO BENCH PLAYERS

If the group stage begins and your team has more than 11 players, you must choose to release as many players as needed to get to 11. This must be done BEFORE the waiver period.

Waivers

There will be 1 waiver period - between the finish of Group H's group stage and the beginning of the knockout stage. This means that the official waiver period will be from: 6/25/10 at 7 PM eastern (to give myself time to process moves) and 6/26/10 at 9:30 AM.

Waivers will work as follows:

Every team will be allowed a maximum of 3 transfers (see below for exception). Your roster MUST be 11 players in the positions specified above at the end of the waiver period. ALL CUTS must be performed before 7 PM on 6/25, so that everyone knows the full pool of who is available. I realize that the cuts may be contingent on the games played on 6/25, contingent moves are ok. Plus, you have until 7 PM to get your cuts in.

You cannot cut a number of players to get your team below 8 players (again, see below for exception). Say, for example, that your team has 10 players who qualify for the knockouts. Let's say that you don't want 1 of them - you cut that player to give you 9 players. You are eligible for 2 pickups. Example 2 - say your team has 13 players who qualify for the knockouts - you MUST cut 2 players. You can cut up to 5 if you want to be eligible for waivers. If you do not submit your cuts before 7 PM on 6/25, your two lowest-performing players will be automatically released - assuming it keeps a full squad for you for the next round. You will not be eligible for waivers.

Waivers will be processed worst-to-first for every waiver round. Last place will get the first crack at the beginning of every waiver round.

Money or free?

$20 entry fee

Draft

Serpentine draft
UPDATED for official rules. If there are any glaring omissions that you feel strongly about, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Let's start the draft on Tuesday....say 12 noon EST for those people who may not see this post until then. I will do my best to keep the draft updated during my lunch break and during the evenings.

With the 14 teams and 18 players per team, we will have to do a 1-hour draft clock for the early rounds and cut it down to 30 minutes later on - let's say, next Tuesday. If Thursday night comes along and there are still picks not made, I may have to institute a free-for-all pick ruling just so we can fill the rosters before Friday.

Also, other rules:

If you draft a player who somehow manages to be cut before the 30-man rosters are pared down to 23, you will get an extra supplemental selection AT THE END of the draft.

This is going to be our attempt at a manual World Cup fantasy game. Derek and I have discussed briefly scoring and roster requirements. I know Kupcho was interested as well.Players:1. Steve Tasker2. Derek2455833. Kupcho14. boubucarow5. PIK956. cheese7. DetroitFan8. Bonzai9. Sebowski10. TLEF11. Fear the Turtle12. Jmon13. Cletius Maximus14. Z Machine
This is the official list of players. The fee to play is $20.If there are no changes between now and Noon Tuesday, this is official. If people want to pair up, ie Z Machine and Derek, possibly, we can try to find replacements. I missed PIK's post about his brother, so we could probably be in.

all that looks good.

My only issue is that i will not be able to make picks during the day this week (other than possibly on the phone during lunch, but maybe not even then).

Starting a new job on tuesday and checking the internet during the day will not be an option.

If that means i need to be replaced, i understand.

I do not know how Paypal works from a collection side, but I am going to volunteer (without his consent) Sebowski to hold our funds. Hopefully he agrees.

Not that I don't trust you guys, but Sebowski has been the commissioner of a long-running FF league that I play in dating back to 2005. He has held the money every year, and there has never been a payout issue. He's as respectable as an internet person who I've never met but have iknown for like 7-8 years can be.

Well, I will be mostly unable to check during the day myself, other than lunchtime. I know Derek has my phone number, and I can PM some others - if someone gives me a heads up, I can pop in and make a pick here and there, it's no problem.I understand that you're worried. It's your call - if you want to text me your picks or something, we can do that, or I'm sure that someone here would be happy to text when it's your pick.Or you could join up with Z Machine or someone else who is looking for a teammate. Your call...I'm not going to kick a fellow big soccer fan out of the league....Congrats on the new job btw

I leave for vacation on Friday, so I might be a burden as well.Any interest in teaming up TLEF?

Clock will be slowed a bit on the weekend. I will make a judgment based on how far we get during the week.Again, texting is an option. I know that Derek, Boub, and I were all in the extremely long college football draft last year, and it went off without a hitch with texting.

Official player classifications will be determined by ESPN, unless someone has a more accurate source.

Fixture list

Click on the team in question, and click on "Squad". Whatever the player is listed at is how he will be treated in the Cup - unless someone has a better option before Tuesday.

I'll tell you what I'll do.....I'll make myself a top 25-30 list and save it on my phone. Once we draw for the draft order, I'll PM my email address to the people who draft in front of and behind me. If they'd be kind enough to email me when its my turn to pick (with a list of who has been drafted since my last pick) i'll respond with my selection and keep the ball rolling.I think we'll be able to work it out as long as i have a quick cheat sheet for myself and don't have to go to FBG's to see who is available. And thanks. Its a great opportunity. Step up in terms of $$ and benefits and its 10 minutes from my house. Its also a step forward in terms of career development. Got very fortunate on this one.

Yeah, if you're available full time this first week, that might work.

I think it would be best. This will probably drift into next week, and I probably won't be around the computer much by then. If you're up for it, send me a list of guys you like. We can hash something out.Congrats on the job!

I have PM'd bweiser, as he is the first alternate. Also, 14 is not a hard number - we can play with 13 if you guys want to team up and we can't find a replacement, it's no big deal.

And I will be able to help in this regard this time around as well, being able to checkin/check texts/check pms at almost any point.

I'm fine with either...

If anyone's made a nice list of players, organized by team or position, I'd like a copy.

Also, if someone is dying to split a team with me, I'm OK with that too.

Any more space left? I'll do this.
How well do you know soccer? What's your favorite team/league?What's your favorite player?Do you know what team Jose Mourhino coaches? If you can answer these questions well, you can be my co-owner.
:goodposting: I'm not that knowledgeable. But I'd be willing to donate $20 if there was a spot and do my research. Looks like you guys filled up. No worries.

I was just going to tell you to take me fees out of your entry for The League. I'll do the money if no one else wants to. I can do paypal. You have to have an account and not use a credit card though or there is an additional charge.

How long will the clock be? Tuesday and Wednesday is my weekend this week and I plan on spending it at the beach with some out of town friends. I can draft from my fancy cell phone if it feels like working or my GF's fancier cell phone if mine is being the pain in the ### it keeps being lately. I'd be willing to team with Z if need be as well. We seem to like the same players/styles.

Normally, I'd take you on as I'm pretty knowledgeable about the beautiful game. However, the draft will start soon, and it will take you too long to come up to speed.Sorry.Anyone else that doesn't have a team, please answer the above questions and I'll consider a co-owner.

Also, can someone resend me the link to the other pool thing where you score all the games as I forgot to book mark it. Tia. Sticker book is filling up btw. :thumbup:I effin hate that arrogant ##### Jose Mourhino.

Are we scoring this ourselves? Something wrong with using this site?
Can you do a draft on that site? The point of this league is to have a draft so the teams don't all have 5 of the same players.
Doesn't look like it
Each player will be given a value between 1 and 10. These player values will reflect, in the opinion of the game developers, each player's fantasy points scoring potential.

The total value of your initial squad must not exceed 150 units. This can change as the tournament progresses and player values fluctuate.
Sounds like a salary cap kind of thing. I'd rather do a draft as well. We may be able to draft here and then only select the guys we drafted over there, but might run into some cap problems.

If I end up taking the money is there a pay deadline we want to implement? I don't want to make the call on those sorts of things. If we are going honor system on that then we might as well just have the losers pay the winners at the end.

:X I'm just going to wing it. I always suck at these fantasy soccer games...the players who are the best players tend to not necessarily be the high scorers.

Ya, but I dont know enough players to "wing it"...So I am gonna need rosters. I can probably draft an entire team of EPL players...but that is about it.
