Official World Cup 2010 Fantasy League (1 Viewer)

The official player list the ESPN list, like the following. This, for example, is Spain's official listing:

That makes Ronaldo a striker. So that is final?
:lmao: that's the method I suggested a few days ago after taking a look through a handful of other websites, and there were no other suggestions....so yes, I guess that's final....
I stand corrected. I thought we were using the ESPN fantasy game positions.
That's what I thought, too.

As did I which is why I said MF Ronaldo, but I guess he's a Striker?

Official player classifications will be determined by ESPN, unless someone has a more accurate source.

Fixture list

Click on the team in question, and click on "Squad". Whatever the player is listed at is how he will be treated in the Cup - unless someone has a better option before Tuesday.
This is the post that set the rule. I apologize for not including it in the official rules post. I will add it.It's quite clear that I'm making this up on the fly here.

Jmon OTC until 6:39 PM ETClock runs until 8 PM, in case you guys had forgotten.
as a night person, i really wish we could just keep drafting. if a person isn't here or doesn't respond, no penalty until whatever time you decide tomorrow morning. between lists and people being available at night i bet you could roll through round two before tomorrow morning.

Night person too.

I know it is a long shot, but any chance everyone can get online at some point tonight and do some "live" rounds?

Who can't be online tonight?

I thought JMon348 had a Kobe phone that rang whenever someone posted something less then stellar about Mr. Bryant in the LeBron/Kobe thread. Sadly, he is absent there as well.

Rules:

Roster size

NOTE: rosters are capped at 3 players for any given team.

Group stage:

2 Goalkeepers

6 Defenders

6 Midfielders

4 Strikers

NO BENCH PLAYERS

Knockout stage rosters:

1 Goalkeeper

4 Defenders

4 Midfielders

2 Strikers

NO BENCH PLAYERS

If the group stage begins and your team has more than 11 players, you must choose to release as many players as needed to get to 11. This must be done BEFORE the waiver period.
Do you mean knockout round? If not, I'm confused.

Yes, knockout round.I need to look into my pick. No big deal if Jmon beats me to the punch.

Anyone else heard from him? He PM'd me around 5 PM with his number, and texted him with no response.

Love the Fabiano pick, Maicon pick too. I really know nothing about fantasy soccer.

Only player I woulda picked over Fabiano was Rooney...mainly cause he looks like he would steal your grilled cheese sandwich, bang your girlfriend, then go out and win a futbol game for you.

LOVE HIM

i'm sure this is something that will become clearer after the fact, but unless you have a D who is going to score a goal or two, i don't see them as being as valuable as a striker or a midfielder or even a goalie. just my .02 so i'm not criticizing the picks above.

on another matter, if i missed this i apologize, but ... the rules talk about goalkeeper substitutes. what are the rules concerning other positions and subs? are only starters on defense eligible for the clean sheet bonus? i mean, coaches change the lineups regularly and we are going to be picking 3-4 defenders from some of the top teams. one of them may not start game 2 (or 3 if they've already clinched) but may play in the second half.

Steal.Almost took him instead of Kaka. My thinking was that Kaka's status as a MF would be an advantage. Not sure I made the right choice.
Kaka was the player who I thought was a reach. With that said, I wrote that without remembering that Kaka played very well in the Confederations Cup. I'm pretty much the charter member of the Kaka is overrated club. I just don't think he's one of the best 10 players in the world right now, and I don't think he has been for over 2 years. But a lot of that opinion is based on his club form. Someone else mentioned that he's a different player with Brazil. On reflection, I'm not convinced he's a bigger reach than Torres when you consider El Nino's injury problems and his uneven performances with the national team.

I doubt he'll score as many goals as some of the guys he was drafted around, but he'll have more assists. Plus, he gets more points for goals as a MF and gets a point for each shutout. Most importantly, playing for Brazil gives him the best chance to play the most games possible. I think he'll be right in the mix for most points scored.

I think by that criteria, I probably would have preferred Xavi. Refresh my memory. Does Kaka generally take Brazil's PK's or other set pieces?

PKs, yes. FKs, depends on the area. Not as a rule, no.

Well, then that's a plus. That's probably at least 2 goals right there.
